BORDERLANDS 2

So borderlands 2 is confirmed for 2012....i am looking forward to it

Quote:
the original four protagonists only appearing as 'support non-player characters'. Instead you'll get a whole new set of characters

Quote:
One of Salvador's special abilities is dual-wielding any weapon, with accuracy being increased if they're of the same class or damage being doubled if they're not. Another ability is simply to increase the fire rate of any weapon the longer you hold the trigger. Each of the new players will also all have their own interactive dialogue, similar to Left 4 Dead.

Quote:
Another change is inclusion of dynamic story missions, in which the story will shape to fit your success or failure.

A new element, Eridium, will also be present. It's not a weapon, but can be combined with guns and vehicles to improve their stats. And it's also used as a form of currency.

Quote:
If you got attached to a particular weapon in the first game, it's time to say a tearful goodbye. Gearbox is scrapping all the weapons from the first game in favour of a new-look arsenal.

Quote:
There's also to be a new range of vehicles, all able to carry four people, one of which is confirmed as a Bandit Technical. Bandits will generally be better equipped than in the first game, with their own brand of weaponry. They'll also have much better artificial intelligence and will work better together as a team and be able to interact with the environment.

Quote:
The class mod and artefacts system for the first game will return, but in the sequel your skill tree with have more unique abilities rather than just simple stat boosts. There'll still be three main branches for each skill tree but it's not known how many skills will be on each.

Sounds like it is coming along nicely so far to me....

Sounds like they are making improvements in all the right areas. I hope Pandora is a lot more dynamic this time with more NPC's to interact with and more enemy variety.

Borderlands was about the most fun I had in a game in the year of its release. I played through it a number of times and thats quite rare for me.

Cannot wait for the sequel.

This is pretty much the exact direction I wanted it to go. The other thing that I'd like is some different location types, most of the world in Borderlands is dusty desert. I think I might buy this once the GOTY type version hits.

Oh wow. I love the art direction. So much better than the endless browns, greens and greys of many of today's FPS.

Looks almost like a comic book. The overemphasis is fitting given that the art direction really saved the first game from obscurity. =)

I'm actually playing through the original game on PC at the moment. I got it on 360 when it first came out, but unfortunately it launched the day before Forza 3, so I only got to play it for a day before my Dad took over the 360 for the next six months.

It's a really, really good game, and the graphics are stunning when you see them running well on the PC.

My only complaint is that you can't choose your class seperately to your character. I kind of hope the second game allows you to at least select, say, a male and female version of each class.

Also, I hate how long it takes to get through the unskippable loading screens at the start. Especially the stupid NVidia one, which doesn't need to be there at all.

In a lot of ways, I think this is the game that Fallout 3/New Vegas should have been.

You can get rid of the splash videos (nvidia, etc.) with a very simple config file tweak. Have a quick browse of the Steampowered forums (Borderlands section, natch) and you'll find it pretty quickly.

I'm trying to think of two games further apart, while still being first person shooters mixed with an RPG..... Nope!

So they should have taken the Fallout franchise and just focused the newer sequels around a pretty art style and numerous cock jokes?

I just think the lighter tone of Borderlands is more in line with the tone of the world that Fallout is set in. While I love the Fallout games from Bethesda, I feel they take themselves too seriously, and mishandle what humour they do present.

While I think Borderlands' humour can come across as a bit lame and over the top (and the game really needs stronger characterisation), I just think that it would work well for the kind of universe Fallout is set in.

And the cel-shaded look of Borderlands would have been perfect for Fallout 3 instead of Bethesda's trademark People-Look-Hideous Engine.

That said, both games are really great as they are.

Man those images look great, I am so glad they ditched having primarily brown environments. A cartoonish artistic style definitely needs a variety of colours imo, though I'm glad to see that they haven't completely ditched the brown

Some new info:

Quote:
1. It's got the same art style
OK, you probably could have deduced that one from the logo alone, but it's worth dwelling on the sheer opulence of the Borderlands aesthetic. In a world where gun-metal realism is the norm, we're pleased beyond measure that at least one hardcore action franchise has a taste for bright colours.

2. Say hello to the Gunzerker
Only two of the game's new classes have been revealed, but if the Gunzerker's any measure, the rest will be funkier than a cocktail bar's worth of Shaft impersonators. With biceps like sacks of coconuts, the Gunzerker can wield two heavy weapons at once for a limited time. Light machinegun plus rocket launcher equals an awful lot of barbequed Skagzillas. Dual wield two guns of the same kind, and you'll see a boost in attack power, or dual wield two different specimens for a jump in accuracy. The Gunzerker (he's called Salvador, by the way) can also "overheat" weapons, increasing the rate of fire for as long as you hold the trigger.

3. The original cast will return
In some form, anyway. The 'A Dam Fine Rescue' mission shown at Gamescom this week challenges you to rescue soldier dude Roland from a bandit camp, navigating a warren of bolted-together scrap-metal while enemies rocket down from orbit. Here's hoping Lilith, Brick and Mordecai get their own cameos, if not playable appearances.

4. Vehicles are bigger and better
The handling has been tinkered with - there are now powerslides - and you can expect four seater rides for the ultimate co-op road trip. The physics system has been dialled down a few notches to smooth over the first game's "Warthog on springs" feel. No longer will stray specks of grit send you flying into a ditch.

5. Almost every in-game asset is new
Here's a little snippet from CVG's recent interview with concept designer Scott Kester: "Very few components from the last game are being reused. We have some staples for certain enemies that we put in for familiarity but it was really important for us to just do more of what we did better, with as many things as we can put in there to keep players interested."

6. Even empty guns are weapons
Short on bullets? Guns aren't just for shooting with, providing they're manufactured by Tediore - they're also for hurling at people's heads. Result: a stun effect that can be amplified by leaving ammo in the clip. The best part is that your gun re-materialises in your hand after you throw it. It doesn't make sense, but then again nor does strapping a midget to your shield.

7. Bosses strap midgets to their shields
And why stop at shields and midgets? Borderlands is a customisation-driven game. I should be able to strap anything I damn well please to anything else I damn well please. Palm-tree/humvee, for instance. Or chainsaw/bathtub. Incidentally, if you shoot that midget's restraints away he'll be more than happy to fight on your side.

8. Bandits manufacture their own weapons
No longer will all the guns you'll grab be mass-produced. Bandits have cobbled together their own, unique hybrids with hugely exaggerated features, like super-sized magazines.

9. There are crazy new enemy types
See those giant snowbeasts in the trailer? They're Bullymongs, and when they're not chewing your head open they'll rip up and throw huge lumps of scenery your way. Also on the cards: a new bandit type, the Marauder, who's intelligent enough to seek cover when injured, floating healer robots named Surveyors, and exploding suicidal Terminator wannabes.

10. The AI packs a punch
The baddies aren't just a posse of yelping bullet-sponges any more. Wound certain varieties and they'll limp away, firing back at you; down others and they'll pull themselves up on one elbow for a last ditch salvo. Smarter foes will try their hands at flanking tactics, and if there's high ground available, expect them to seize it. Both inside and outside combat, NPCs will be far more talkative.

11. None of the old guns return
Gearbox hasn't just overhauled Borderlands' gun roster, but gutted it completely. The weapon manufacturers have knocked out a slew of new toys, including realistic offerings from Dahl, AK47 homages with mandatory minigun barrel attachments from Ruskie outfit Vladof, and more explosive overkill from Torgue. Jakobs is still your first port of call for Wild Westy damage dealers.

12. Story missions are three times as big
You heard. Borderlands 2's campaign packs triple the fun, so bring a packed lunch. What's more, the storyline is now a dynamic affair, after the example of Mass Effect and its ilk. Fail to rescue Roland on time in the mission described above, for example, and you'll splinter off into a different plot thread. We're still trying to ascertain how drastic said splintering will be, but fans of replay-value should be delighted.

13. There's a mini-map
Because an open world game without an on-screen map is like a submarine without a periscope.

14. There's a wider variety of environments
There's more to Pandora than deserts. Borderlands 2 will reach beyond the original's unalleviated wasteland backdrop to embrace ice floes, mountains and forests, among other terrain types.

15. The Siren's back
Borderlands' willowy female character type returns with a new hairdo but without the ability to phase walk. Gearbox isn't saying much about Lilith's successor just yet, but watch that space.

New info!

Quote:
• Similar AA to the first game (aliased black lines)

• Significant NPCs have clever intro videos like in B1

• Basically the exact same UI but it now has a mini-map

• Some enemies can throw environmental objects at you

• Tediore weapons allow you to throw guns/mags as grenades

• ‘Bandit’ is a new weapon manufacturer with very large mags

• Torque guns all have exploding bullets that are somewhat slow

• Vladorf guns all have rotating barrels with high rates of fire

• Psychos will now dodge and they can be tactically wounded

• Maya replaces Lilith as the Siren character, can phasewalk

• Kamikaze robots act like zombies (eg, crawl if legs missing)

• Gunzerker class cannot zoom while dual-wielding weapons

• Can still equip four weapons and they are paired for DWing

New screens too:

I only just bought Borderlands on steam the other week for $7.50... quite enjoying it a lot, will be getting B2 for sure... It's a pity no one really plays it online anymore... It really does feel like a game made for MP... or maybe thats because I went as the sniper class.. dunno

Hit me up for a game whenever I'm online Shadow.

I've played through most of it on PS3, but these days I'm in front of my PC more than my TV, so I picked it up on steam during the sale, too.

I'm replaying the Soldier class, only just started, but def. be interested in playing through along side someone else icon_smile.gif

Hope they haven't entirely forsaken Indie/alt rock for "Wub Wub". Cage the Elephant elevated the first game from "Really really good" to "Utterly fantastic". Still, love the trailer.
