So while playing the Naruto game I mentioned up above (Surpisingly good but I'll get into that when I beat it) I started watching the show again. And it's occurred to me, the game is better then the show. All the pacing issues the show has (Wich are fucking numerous, a fight should not last 15 episodes) are completly fixed in the game, 20 episodes into the show there's a fight that lasts like 10 fucking episodes. and approximately 9 episodes worth of the fight is taken up by dramatic staring/flash backs/explaining shit that no one cared about. I'm watching this show with my finger constantly hovering over fast forward and sometimes just skip entire episodes all together, or like groups of 5 episodes at once where I'm just like "Fuck it"
You get to the same fight about 3 hours into the game and it lasts about 10 minutes and is awesome. You miss out on a little bit of extra detail playing the game compared to the show but you get everything really important and the fact that it fixes up the pacing issues is definitely worth it.

Defeated the first boss in Demon's Souls last night, what a strangely addictive game. You're afraid to go forward because you don't know what's lurking around the corner, yet you do it anyway. The combat is a lot of fun although my parrying skills need more improvement.

I really want to fight those two dragons...

Persona 3 Still grinding away. I think I'm in the middle of the summer and I'm currently tuning the sports coach. It's all pretty innocent but she appears to be into my skinny emo kid.

Final Fantasy VII A discussion on another forum made me want to check this sucker out. I'd only played this title a couple of times and only got about as far as the first town (rental of some sort). I might stick with it but so far it really doesn't age all that well (IMO). Half the time I don't know where the character is and sometimes I really don't want to know #ugly. The music doesn't seem to fit some scenes (Cloud makes a bad ass get away on a train and the music is the same as the dour town) plus there's so many silly cliches. Childhood promises, shooting stars, bad hair-dos. I'm sure it's only early days and there's some kick ass moments coming up but I'm beginning to side with the 'overrated' brigade.

But what I'm really here for...

Animal Crossing I finally found my AC memory card and decided to check my town out for the first time in apparently...84 months. Time sure flies. Basically looking back I was a massive horder who's entire house was infested with cockroaches and annoying gollywogs that would make freaky girations. I cleared it all out and now I've turned my character into a fitness freak...with a mother f**king master sword & Donkey Kong Jr. Maths.

Plus, I was so thrilled to see my two favourite residents still chilling. Rolf, the vulgar tiger & Bob the gay cat were still as fun as ever. Apparently Bob was being teased for being 'weird' so I had to give him an ego boost and Rolf wanted basically everything in my backpack plus a letter, bless.

Such a nostalgia rush and it's one of those games that hits JUST the right amount of notes with me. I probably won't play it again for another 7 years come the weekend but the revisit was well worth it.

Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning
Ok so 36 hours in, really enjoying the shit out of this game.

Although I'm seeing a lot of comparison to skyrim, and after putting a decent amount of time into both I think that the comparison isn't really apt.

Skyrim's biggest strength is that it really created a world. Everything about the world feels genuine and real. The actual game is kind of mediocer but the world they've created more then makes up for it (Kind of like GTA 4 in a way, except GTA's world couldn't make up for the games short commings)
It was a world that you could forget it was a game and just get absorbed into it.

Amalur doesn't do that, and I don't think it really attempts to do it so I wouldn't really call it a failing. It's game first and foremost. And that's both to it's strength and weakness. The world is no where near as immersive as Skyrim, and I don't think there's a lot that could be that immersive. But the game around the world is far better. Even if it does feel like a game.

The combat is relatively simple, more God of War then Bayonetta which is a little disappointing, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. While the fights aren't really that hard, there is a lot of room for creativity to have fun with it. I'm currently playing a half rogue half warrior focusing on broad swords, bows and traps. Setting a gauntlet of traps down then pelting a group of enemies with arrows forcing them to run through a gauntlet of exploding ice traps is always fun. You also get a move similar to scorpions spear from mortal kombat that lets you set a whole bunch of traps on top of each other then pull enemies straight on top of them.

I would have preferred more variations to the combos, maybe some specific combos for certain weapon pairs etc. But what is here is a hell of a lot of fun. And overall I'm really enjoying the combat side of things.

The story is another surprisingly strong point. I usually find myself just not giving a shit about the story in these games. But I'm actually pretty hooked on the story and the world that's been created. The concept of the Fae is just fascinating, I mean immortal elves is nothing new, but how there songs work and the fact that they're constantly reliving there stories is just brilliant. I didn't think I'd really give a shit about the quest line for the house of ballards you get early on, but after I dug into it and met the maid of windermere storyline wise it sucked me in. I'm hoping the other faction quest lines are as good.
Also the actual over arching story of you being a fateless person in a world dictated by fate is a great concept. I also really enjoy the fact that you actually have a past before you died. (One of my biggest problems with Oblivion/Skyrim was how your character had literally no past)
So far it's actually has a storyline that has me interested in continuing on with the storyline quests as opposed to say Skyrim where the only reason I ever did the storyline stuff was to get the new shouts.

The world however is far more... I don't know is gamey a word? It feels like a game, you go into areas that are cut off from eachother with mountains and small paths to other areas. It feels a lot like the zones in warcraft to be honest. Wich has it's advantages and disadvantages to be honest. I mean it stops it feeling like one coherent world which is disappointing, but at the same time it makes the areas feel more focused and more designed which kind of makes each discreet area more enjoyable. If I had to choose though I would have preffered a big cohesive world.

I'm also really enjoying the crafting system. Actually being able to craft a lightning sword that gives you + to health or a poisinous sword that does extra damage at night based on the parts you put into it is pretty awesome. Although it asks you to name everything you get and I'm not that creative with names so I'm currently wearing The Pants of Sitting, using my Bow of Arrows and Mr Stabby for my sword.

There are a couple of issues that I really dislike though, mainly being the loot and the minimap.

The loot is just insane. Purples (Unique powerfull items) have no meaning what soever. I'll go into a new dungeon, find a sweet purple sword behind a hidden wall through a lock picked and enchanted chest. Then walk out, kill a kobold and find a random blue sword that does 30 more damage. The purples look awesome though, they actually have unique models for them and generally just look bad arse. But most of em go straight to the vendor cause any item I make will be stronger then it. Wich kind of leads to another problem in that I'm level 17, and I have like 150 000 gold. All the best goods come from blacksmithing so I'm never buying armour or weapons just selling purples, making more money. It's insane and money means nothing so when it got to the point "Do you want to spend 2 and a half grand on a pointless title" I'm like "SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!"

The second is the minimap, I had no idea how brilliant an idea the compass thing in Skyrim was till I played this, I spend way too much time just following the minimap, wich sucks cause the game can look gorgeous when it wants to. I spent like 10 hours in Haxshi without realising it was even a giant Damm. I've found myself having to specifically focus on looking at the screen not at the minimap because I was missing a lot of cool stuff. I really wish there was a way to play this game hudless.

Overall though, really enjoying the game. The story has me enthralled and I'm enjoying the freedom allowed in the combat. It has it's issues and is definitely no skyrim killer, but for a new team's first game it's pretty awesome. I really hope it gets a sequel to see where these guys take the game.

I am playing the greatest game this gen; Mass Effect 2

Holy crap, this game is somehow better than I remembered it. The added DLC feel a lot better than when I played it as a standalone months after I finished my playthrough. I think it breaks up the thing with the non-DLC game of only having recruit and loyalty quests. It's amazing how quickly games age as just two years ago I thought it was mindboggling good looking but while it still looks good it's not a graphical powerhouse anymore. Damm you Witcher for ruining grapics. This is the second time going through as an infitrator and it's probaly the perfect class. Also femshep is so much better it isn't even funny.

In regards to Benza's Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning post; I'll give the game another shot when it's patched a bit more, or maybe if ATI release some drivers to address any problems they are having with the game. Unfortunately, this game crashes too much for me icon_sad.gif

DBZ: Raging Blast 2

Great game. As opposed to the first RB, Burst Limit and Ultimate Tenkaichi, this is quite easily the best DBZ game out this gen. While not quite as solid as Tenkaichi 2 or as deep and crazy as Budokai 3, it's still a lot of fun and man it has a LOT of unlockables. Put maybe 6-8 hours in it and I'm not even close to unlocking all the characters and transformations; there's something like 80-100 characters with transformations included. There have been some nice surprises too, with non-canon appearances such as SSJ3 Vegeta and Broly, and also some of the new characters like Vegetas brother Tarble from the recent special Toriyama released and Hatchiyak from the latest film.

There's no actual story mode, but instead has a Galaxy Mode where you play specific fights with every character. Yes, every single character has fight scenarios and win conditions. There's something like 400-450 different battles to do, and through this you unlock a tonne of stuff and open more spots to customise your character with improvements etc. While it's pretty awesome for the most part, some of the challenges are beyond retarded. Fight Android 16, 17 and 18 with Vegeta and beat them, but Vegeta dies in literally one hit. Shit like this tends to pop up on occasion and man it's fucking stupid. This is meant to be a game for a younger generation as well as older fans, and yeah it's way way too masochistic like this at points.

Overall though I'm having a tonne of fun with it and am pretty addicted to unlocking everything (including the artwork). It's really more of a fan service game than anything and has a hell of a combat learning curve, but once you get your head around it you basically start destroying everything and it's awesome. I tend to get carried away though and instead of unlocking things I go into the duel mode and recreate scenarios from the series or make up my own. If the two characters are particular rivals or so they'll actually talk to each other during the fight, so it's pretty awesome.

Also Super Gogeta versus Vegito has to be done so the "which fusion is more powerful" debate can be laid to rest, but most fans know that Vegito is likely the stronger type of fusion anyway icon_wink.gif

They just released the 1.04 patch the other day, which is supposed to fix the PS3 lag issues.
Apparently after you patch the game, make a manual save. Then go back to the main menu and load up that save, then wait for 73 in-game hours.
I think that's what Bethesda recommended anyway.

ooh might have to try it, last time they patched it it worked great for like another couple of levels then started going exactly the same.

I logged back into my town about two years ago after being absent for around 7 years. The town was full of weeds and my house had roaches. Surprisingly no one had moved out.

I've been playing a bit of Yakuza 4. Think I'm pretty close to the end of the first character's story arc. So far I'm loving it, even more so than the 3rd game. There's just so much to do and somehow the game manages to make all the weirdly hilarious stuff (like the revelations and some of the substories) feel like it's not out of place with the actual seriousness of the rest of the stuff.

Initially I was a little disappointed with Akiyama's moveset as most of the Heat moves had been recycled, but now he's got his own brutal moves, it's all good.

Should probably be further along in the story, but have been too busy gambling, bowling, poking hostesses, playing pachinko, searching for locker keys and a whole heap of other stuff. It's a pretty sweet game. Just sorry it took me this long to fire it up.

I was so happy they brought across pretty much all of the Japanese content this time. Yakuza 3 was great, but it felt a bit stripped down.

I spent so much time catching Tuna, playing golf, singing karaoke, dating hostesses etc. icon_lol.gif

Has anyone made it level 50 on the arcade game? I always make it to the high 40s and then run out of time.

Picked up the Darkness 2. Pretty awesome but it has this B grade quality to it. Storywise it's pretty great but I don't care about the characters. It's got a good pace so far but action wise the variety is kinda missing.

Sometimes though the B-grade quality just makes a games that much more awesome. This might sound weird but I think my biggest problem with some of the A-grade quality games is they seem to take themselves too seriously. Not always, but in games like Half-Life or whatever it has put me off in the past. Same with the highly polished Halo Reach whereas with Halo 3 I find to be incredibly fun and awesome.

Thing is I don't know where B-Gradeness comes from. The voice acting is pretty good, it looks fine and the gameplay doesn't suck in any way. I think it might be just the Darkness's voice. Something about it reminds me of those awesome horror movies that ere made with no money.
