I'm up for some matches, I'm not really any good and I'm sure I'll forget all my combos/moves once I get in a versus match. |
Are you on now? Can one find ye in the lobby? |
Not on PSN now, but feel free to add me. I'm 'Stoneroth'.
Are you any good? If so, don't expect anything. |
I normally don't like adding people. I just come for occasional challenges when I rarely feel like it.
I don't think I am that good. I can pull of basic combos and use every character on a fundamental level. (All basics specials and moves etc). But not good enough to go into excessive details like hitboxes, timing etc like others in PALGN. _________________

Also, does anyone know what the deal is with the upcoming KOF XIII Climax? Is it just an arcade version featuring the DLC console characters, or is it a Capcom-style move? |
Sorta like AE2012 to SSF4AE. Balance tweaks only most likely. They might add a character or 2(doubt it imo) _________________

That sounds about the level I am (play for slightly competitive fun, but don't get into it on a technical level), except I'm having trouble with the timing of combos in this game and haven't even touched half the roster yet, so you're probably a couple of steps ahead
Might be up for some matches tonight, if anyone is interested. _________________

I should be online.
I can do like half the missions for my mains so far, but I turn to **** when put against a real opponent.
Should be fun anyway.

Had some matches online last night and they were a bit of a mixed bag. The first few were extremely laggy and just fireball-fests. Never realised how hard it was to dodge a fireball when you can't jump properly or roll.
Actually had a few lag-free matches after that, but they were against people that actually knew how to play the game and they proceeded to wipe the floor with me. It's insane how quick the game plays when you're up against someone who knows what they're doing (lots of hop jumping, dashing and cross-ups) and playing the game against the CPU appears to have been a complete waste of time.
Not heaps of fun, as there's obviously more to learn about the game than I realised. Also quite difficult to get matches happening (took an hour just to have about 6 matches). _________________

Its been a bit tough to find matches and even moreso now that Soul Calibur V released. I think most of the casual KOF fanbase moved over. Even with the patch, there are still lots of red bars. It looks playing someone internationally still won't work out well. Even with lv3 latency, the amount of input lag really ruins my offline execution. I only go for lv4 and even its quite rare to go up against someone my level or better. I often just end up matched with noobs whom I effortlessly beat and I can't further improve because of that. _________________

I'd forgotten about Soul Calibur coming out. Wonder if the activity will drop further with the new Blazblue coming out next week?
Yeah, there weren't a lot of lv4 connections and I'm not sure which regions I was playing against. I'm guilty of being one of those noobs, but try to console myself knowing that I still try and play every match, not just throw out constant fireballs I really need to go back to the drawing board as I realised I was trying to play this game like SF, but they're pretty different beasts.

Yeah, I was on a bit later than I wanted to be. Sorry about that. If you see me online and want a few matches, feel free to send me a message My schedule is pretty messed up at the moment, so I'm on at pretty random times (usually late at night). Pretty sure I won't be up to your standard though! _________________

I'm usually on between 6-11pm weeknights (WA time)
I can move around and poke okay, but my combos are pretty terrible.
Even level 3 latency is really average, I'm used to playing blazblue with virtually no lag though.

So I only realized today that there is a typo in the topic title for this thread when luketheman pointed it out. _________________

Only if we believe!
There's just something about KOF I can't get into, I mean it's one of the best looking games ever made, but man there's just something in the engine that I can't dig. I can't really place my finger on it though. _________________

Maybe something to do with the fact that the systems are so god damn complex? That's the problem i'm having. So many cancels(Super, HD, MAX,special) , combo system(At least HD combos) are stupidly difficult to perfect, Engine is tuned to require near perfect execution i think.
I really want to get into the game but no one really plays it. That and the time investment to become reasonable with characters/combos is much more than something like MvC3 or SF4 and even Blazblue(But then again, i don't really know any in BB ) _________________

I think that might be it, I mean blazblue is a lot stricter on the inputs then SF 4, but I'm used to that, but I think KoF might be a level above that still.
Also I kind of miss the counters from KOF 12, that did the whole slow mo zoom thing, it just looked really cool. _________________

Those counters were cool. but the timing to get it to work was so bs >_> But the ability to do a stupid long free combo was nice.....if only i knew how to do them _________________

I saw that years ago. I let the TC know, but he/she didn't bother to fix it.

What's funny is that I consider the execution in BlazBlue(though the last one I played was CS) to be harder than KOFXIII and with SSF4, I can't do those 1-frame links if my life depended on it. While BB and SSF4 aren't my kind of games, I think the execution portion mainly deals with the fact that I didn't put as much effort into learning it as I did KOFXIII's system and I think that's the case for a lot of people here.
The canceling system isn't too complex. Its really no different from super canceling from 3S or SSF4. The HD combos are hard, but they don't require UMvC3 levels of execution.
Fortunately for my main team: King, Vice, and Kula. They have really simple, yet damaging combos. King's HD combo is a matter alternating between B Tornado Kick and Trap Shot in the corner. Vice can HD from her BnB and 80% with 3 meters, and Kula's BnB is so good that HD combos are pointless for her.
Here's some tips on creating/fighting against frame traps and overall controlling space.
