One Piece would be the biggest but like with Dragon Ball Z i predict something will come along and replace it from Shonen Jump. _________________

Yeah that Aizen arc took forever to finish, so really that last arc could mean any amount of chapters. _________________

i know its proberbly been done, but 50 pages is alot to search through.
I recently said (in the RPG thread) that I love RPGs, but I also listed a long list of games that I havn't finished. Made me think its RPGs stories I actually like (confirmed by my hate that 80% of FFXIIIs story was buried in a huge text database and that I most often play games on easy so I can see the story)
I've tried animes before, but most are too Japanese? for me. Lots of whiny adolescents getting super emotional followed by 5 minutes of ADD enhanced fight scenes. Most of the critically acclaimed titles also seem too "arty" and auteur to enjoy.
So..what do you recommend? I guess I'm looking for a serial adventure following a rag-tag group...anime firefly anyone?
I'm thinking maybe one-piece ($50 for 10 eps / 500 eps and counting - gulp) and cowboy bee-bop??? _________________

black lagoon is like cowboy bebop but with a female lead , as for a rag tag team - hmm plenty but they all dip in to that " too Japanese vibe - you said "serial" assuming i read that right - try "Texhnolyze" - stick with it mate 12 episodes in you will thank me ( was great by the 8th episodes ) also its great if your a lost fan but if not dosnt matter just stick with it ( what they say is importnent ) there is also experiments lane much the same but i have not seen it -
watching the title i suggested could help profile anime s with in your interest group
also best peice of advice - dont pay for shonen shows ie ones longer then 50 episodes - wait until there are ether big box sets or cheap blu rays - if you must watch them then seek alternative means - no sense in buying episodes for an ongoing series. _________________

One Piece is a good choice, going by your criteria. Rag-tag group: Check. Not too Japanesey: Check. I think you might like it. Black Lagoon is definitely a good one too. Gantz as well. _________________

Just watched Millennium Actress and Paprika back to back. Amazing movies, Satoshi Kon went too soon.

Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star and Trigun form a sort-of "trilogy" of space westerns/used-future adventures. They don't share any production staff, but the themes and ideas presented in them are similar enough that if you like one you should like the other two.
From there, you can move into the spinoff/sequel series for Outlaw Star and Trigun. Angel Links follows another ship crew in the Outlaw Star universe (and is possibly better than its parent series) and Gungrave is set in the same universe as Trigun, although on a different planet. There's also Heat Guy J, which has no relationship to any of the above, but shares ideas with Trigun and Gungrave.
If you want something more fantasy-ish (you did mention "RPG story lines"), then look into The Twelve Kingdoms. It borrows heavily from Chinese mythology and is very well-realised. Just be aware that it takes six or seven episodes to really get going (and the best story arc isn't until much later in the series), but is probably the best fantasy anime ever made.
There's also Story of Saiunkoku, which exists because Twelve Kingdoms was never finished. It's not as heavy going, and deals more with court intrigues, but is still very good.
The Vision of Escaflowne is very much a "rag-tag bunch of misfits" fantasy anime. It manages to combine a well-realised fantasy setting with mecha, and still works quite brilliantly. This probably sits just slightly below Twelve Kingdoms in terms of best fantasy anime ever made.
Patlabor is another ragtag-bunch-of-misfits series, but it's less an adventure and more a mecha/police series. It's quite brilliant in its own way, especially if you like light cyberpunk.
There's also Dirty Pair, which doesn't fit your criteria at all really, but is completely awesome nonetheless and you should definitely watch it. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

If you decide to watch Escaflowne make sure to stay well away from the English dub. It's probably the reason I'm not a fan of the series... _________________

Some mixed news about the Steins;Gate fan translation. The bad news: its been cancelled. The good news: JAST USA appear to have picked the game up for an official English release and will work with the group. That's a good thing of course, but...
Those of us who bought and imported the Japanese version of the game (like me) in anticipation of the English patch are disappointed. I'd rather not wait, and then have to buy the game a second time though, so it looks like I'll be using the beta version of the patch that was released by the translation group to play the game. At least it's 95% complete, so I'll be able to get through the whole thing. _________________
