Haven't seen a thread for this yet...
With the final class being confirmed and the closed beta having begun, I think it’s about time a thread was started up as the release date looms ever so close.
Brief Background Intro
Guild Wars 2 is set 250 years after the original Guild Wars with the stirring of the elder dragons who now wreak havoc amongst Tyria. To this day, the dragons have maintained a stranglehold on Tyria, with each race dealing with the dragon threat as best as they can. If they truly wish to survive and defeat the dragons though they must work together.
Playable Races
- Human
- Charr
- Norn
- Asura
- Sylvari
Playable Classes
- Elementalist
- Warrior
- Ranger
- Necromancer
- Guardian
- Thief
- Engineer
- Mesmer
Features and other stuff
- Guild Wars 2 will retain the same subscription fee model that they had with Guild Wars. You pay once for the game and that’s it.
- The creation of a ‘personal storyline’ – Your race, profession, biography and decisions will form the basis of how your character advances through the storyline.
- Dynamic events – Replaces the traditional MMORPG questing system. Events happen as you see them and you react accordingly.
- Dungeons – Dungeons have two modes: One mode known as Destiny’s Edge tells the story and a repeatable explore mode which is a more challenging version of the dungeon.
- Crafting – Gather materials to craft items for yourselves and friends.
PvP returns with two formats – Structured PvP which to my understanding is similar to the current Guild v. Guild format in Guild Wars, and World PvP, where servers battle it out against each other to earn benefits for their server (more casual).
- Based on your achievements displayed in the Hall of Monuments in Eye of the North you will get minor benefits in Guild Wars 2.
- Level cap at 80
It's been a long time but it feels like the game could be released very soon! Personally I can't wait for it to come out. What are everyone else's thoughts on this upcoming MMORPG? _________________ Recently Finished: Legend of Heroes - Trails in the Sky (8/10)

So you pay for the game and no monthy fee true? Do they get you on in game purchases? _________________

When GW1 began there was no in game purchases but after a year or two they introduced a Guild Wars shop. I'm not sure how relevant they will be in GW2 but you certainly didn't need to buy anything to fully enjoy GW1.

Okay cool, just there is a big trend these days with free MMO's and then you have to buy in game purchases to get good gear. But it looks pretty cool especially the whole real time events and so on without going to see NPC's everywhere. _________________

Looks like AreaNet are planning on gaining and retaining players by not having a subscription fee. From there they'll probably release new content through expansion packs.
It's a strategy that banks on quality; and judging from the preview, I'm sure they'll be selling expansion packs en masse in due time. _________________

It'll be interesting to see if they'll keep a similar model to GW1 for additional releases beyond the first, allowing one to purchase what they call 'stand alone expansions' such as Factions and Nightfall which don't require the original (Prophecies) but you could link them to an account, or if they'll go down the route of Eye of the North (which required at least one of the three standalones). _________________ Recently Finished: Legend of Heroes - Trails in the Sky (8/10)

The original is my favourite MMO ever, so I'm really hoping this lives up to the hype.
The big thing that GW2 promises is the removal of the old idea of the "holy trinity" of tank/healer/DPS in MMOs. If they can pull this off, it will pretty much entirely change the landscape for what can be done with classes and player roles in groups. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

Interesting... I can't imagine MS lifting all their BS restrictions on MMOs and Live so I guess PS3?

It looks great but I hope the optimization is good. So many MMOs I've played lately have run absolutely rubbish on my computer.
Is there any information available on the next beta? Will we be able to play? I keep hearing around April?

Anyone pre-ordered yet? EB seem to have exclusive rights to the Collector's Edition but I'm not sure how they will facilitate codes for beta access...
Maybe digital pre-order is the safest bet. _________________

I think you have to pre-purchase (read: pay the full amount) in order to get the beta access. _________________ Steam: Emilbus
