Wouldn't call it a reboot... more a continuation. Like the Bond series, for example. Same world, different story.
Batman and Spiderman are reboots. Starting all over from scratch.

This reminds me that I've had Ultimatum sitting on my shelf for a few years now, unwatched. I should fix this.
Mostly, I hope that if this does take the plot from the book it's based on it's not just a new guy with the same personality. But I get the impression that's what they'll be doing based on the trailer.

Yeah, I haven't seen the third either. Still haven't opened my HD-DVD boxset that I got for like $10 when they were clearing them.

It's not really a reboot, they're just telling another aspect of the story sort of like a spin off, this Bourne Legacy isn't even based on the book - it's just using the title. The Jason Bourne character isn't even in this film.
Matt Damon has said he hasn't ruled out playing Jason Bourne again just as long as Paul Greengrass (he directed the first 2 Bourne films) returns.

Personally, I'm glad that they have decided to carry on the Bourne saga and I have strong faith that Renner will uphold his role like Damon did.
