An exaggerated take on first person shooters? Looks like I'll have to wait for a trailer detailing the gameplay of the title to see how 'exaggerated' the game really is. _________________

So its out this week. Apparently $15? with $220 worth of DLC at launch http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/02/07/gotham-city-imposters-launching-with-220-of-dlc.aspx
There has been a fair bit of chat about where the industry is headed with regards to DLC and digital distribution. I've been pretty vocal in my concerns about it all, but just maybe this is OK? Low price point of entry and entirely optional customisation options for a cheap? price. _________________

As long as those optional customisation options don't impact the game mechanics or game play, meh, who am I kidding, I couldn't care less about this turd of a game.

So small payments for small amounts of content is ok, but larger payments for larger amounts of content is bad?

Small amounts for non gameplay effecting content that has no effect on balance is totally optional is OK. Large payments for significant expansions as DLC is also OK.
What I object to is large amounts for small content (4 maps for $25+ anyone) and store exclusives. Also, as mentioned, its a low-price initial buy-in as well. _________________

well then that's incredibly subjective with what is a large amount of content and a large amount of money.
Also I'd argue that 15 bucks is pretty steep entry point for a system like this, typically games that go hard on the microtransactions are free initially. _________________

have pointed out in other threads: Good DLC expands story and gameplay at reasonable prices.
Examples: Borderlands DLC, Pigsys Perfect 10 (enslaved) and Red Deads Zombies.
All opinions are subjective i guess. i was just about to add map packs (UC3 + COD) and cosmetic changes (mounts and costumes) as DLC I don't endorse. But I realised I don't play multi-player modes hardcore. Perhaps to the great unwashed they are good value? Though complaints form the fighter crowd re: costumes/characters being sold as DLC also muddys the water...........
Re: imposters - $15 buys you a solid PG call of duty clone in the DC universe. From what I gather all the DLC is just optional skins...... _________________

Nope! I assume she is since she's written the upcoming Law & Order: Legacies Review.

I imagine map packs are similar to extra characters in fighting games, it might seem a lot from the outside looking in, but if it's a good map or a good character and you're going to be spending like 40+ hours using it then it's pretty good value for money.
Most of the complainst from the fighting game community about costumes/character DLC's is because with most of that stuff especially from capcom, it's already on the disc. People had hacked into the disc of marvel vs capcom 3 as soon as it came out and had the two DLC characters unlocked and playable. The costume packs are the same way. I think the Arcade Edition and the latter costumes in SSF 4 were the only ones from capcom that are actually new content.
I don't remember anyone really complaining about say the blazblue characters cause they were obviously added after the fact since they're like 700 meg downloads.
As for the 15 dollar price point, the fact is that they're trying to get into the micropayment model. They are far from being the first to try this and not even the first FPS to do it. I mean I mean we allready have Battlefield Heros and Battlefield Play 4 Free as completely free team based FPS games that survive on micropayments for that kind of customization stuff. So going the same route but charging 15 bucks instead of free seems kind of steep to me. _________________

It's not as bad as Gears of War 3 though. A full priced retail game with a ridiculous amount of paid-for weapon skin DLC.
But what about the actual game, is it any good? It kinda looks a bit like Team Fortress 2, fast paced and such. I'm definitely interested in it. Hopefully someone on my Steam friends list buys it so I can get their opinions of it.

How is that different?
1 is a 15 dollar multiplayer only x-box arcade game with a bunch of optional skins for DLC
1 is an 80 dollar full retail game with a bunch of completly optional skins for DLC?
I mean yeah there is a price difference there, but it's not like buying Gears of War got you a game worth 15 bucks? _________________

Gotham City Impostors is a functional shooter with a sense of humor and a Batman license. It's got plenty to unlock, but it's not all that deep.
Go, shoot, win. Over and over. If you're looking for a first-person shooter that doesn't take itself seriously, have at it, but don't expect a FPS revolution.

I think it is great... no I thought it was great. It takes all the best elements of CoD, and wraps it up in this pseudo batman universe. The big problem is that they screwed the lobbies in an update and somehow have never fixed it. If you can get a game it is awesome, otherwise be prepared to look at the matchmaking screen a lot.
