I thought most people liked that game... It was just IGN who gave it a 3/10 or something.
Edit: Beaten to it. |
Really? A lot of people I talk to don't like it or have no idea what it is. Then their first impressions are "that looks shit".

I love that game aswell.

The first one that pops to mind is Mirror's Edge.
It's an acquired taste, its not bad. Sprinting and jumping across rooftops, seeing cars below you and hearing the wind rushing in your ears gives this fantastic sense of speed which I've never been able to feel in a first person game... Its a great feeling, if you're good at it. If you're not good at it you fall and die a lot. Speaking as someone who held top 10 scores on some of the in-game leader boards for time trials/speed runs, people don't like this game mostly because they are bad at it... :] Also how can you not be in awe at the visuals with that bright, shiny and vibrant colour palette.. a lot of primary colours, everything glistening in the sunlight with harsh reds glowing through the whites indicating where to go next. So striking and such a great style. Amazing sound and soundtrack too. and it has a refreshingly non-sexualized female character (even though the story is bad).
There's nothing wrong with the movement or the controls. Especially on PC. It's smooth and fluent. Whenever I missed a jump or didn't grab a ledge properly it was my own fault for not being in the right position. It's about precision of movement. To reiterate: You just suck
I'm really sad there probably will never be a Mirror's Edge 2 _________________

I thought Mirror's Edge was pretty great, albeit with plenty of minor niggles here and there.
And yeah the controls were fine, was fluid on PC. _________________

They fucked up a great opportunity to have one of the best multiplayer games with godfather 2....they gave us standard deathmatch games, yet they should have had a multiplayer game that was much like the single player with 2 godfathers sending out the boys to claim territories....but alas. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Possibly better on Wii because at heart this is a gimmick game, but it achieves what it aims too. AA B grade stuff. |
The Wii version relies too heavily on waggle, and is a chore to play. The 360 version is much better. Both are vast improvements over the PS2 original.
Or, uh, so I hear.
Anyway, I have a few...
Bullet Witch
While I'll happily accept that this game isn't going to win any awards for originality or gameplay, I had a lot of fun with this game, and I don't think it deserves all the hate it got at release. It's not entirely unlike the Gungrave games, except you're a hot witch chick instead of a hot dead guy. The story is kind of dumb, but there's enough good action sequences and set pieces to make the game interesting enough.
Dead Or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball and DOAX2
I make no secret of the fact that I love the original DoAXBV. Essentially combining a lesbian dating sim with an actually pretty fun beach volleyball sim (it's no Beach Spikers, but it's close), DoAXBV is a fun way to waste a hot summer afternoon. The sequel is pretty much more of the same, although the addition of new games and the most ridiculously hard-to-get achievements on the 360 take away from the general fun. Also for some reason the sequel no longer works after the NXE dashboard update (it won't save game data.)
P.N.03
I will never understand the hate for this Gamecube masterpiece. A sort-of cross between a rhythm action game and a cover shooter (yes, really), P.N.03 is just really good fun. If it has a weakness, it's the way score is used as currency, but maybe that's just because I love scoring points in video games. The plot is dumb and nonsensical, but it's also not really why you'd play this game. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

+1 for Alpha Protocol. The game has glaring flaws that put many people off from playing it but I still had quite a lot of fun. I liked the timer and autosave feature with the dialogue wheel, you had to respond in a timely manner and you couldn't just redo a conversation because you didn't achieve the end result you were hoping for.
Plus, any game that lets me be a complete **** to every one gets a thumbs up from me.
The sneaking animation is woefully bad however, I don't think anyone will defend that with a straight face. _________________

I really want to try Alpha Protocol, but my friend played it and it gave his PS3 the YLOD, so I'm too cautious XD _________________

No game breaks a console. They just happen to break while playing a game. _________________

This Is Football, i think it was 2002. When everyone else was playing Fifa and Pro Evo, I was playing this. I'm no longer really a fan of soccer games, I prefer Arcade sports games to Simulation type sports games, so TIF was the one I played. It had all the tiers of each domestic league, it had fully fledged European and Asian club cups, and it was fully licensed. Fifa didn't do this at the time. Sure, as a sim it was far less accurate than Fifa, but I preferred this over Fifa by far. I guess it's lack of technical brilliance, in terms of realism, made it more fun in my eyes.

Megaman Legends.
Gamers were so busy heaping shit on it for not being a ball-breakingly difficult miss-a-pixels-difference-on-jump-and-game-fucking-over slog like the 2D titles (spoiler warning: I think that MegaMan 3 and X are some of the best platformers made) that they missed out on a really well crafted title.
I remember my parents (amazingly, bless them) picking it up for my with a chipped PSX (best Christmas ever, I don't care if you got a pony) and, upon seeing it on the screen, huffed away 'waste of money it looks like your old Nintendo!'. I was all like 'Shhhh that's that point and also shhh the creepy monkey is on screen again!'
It wasn't trying to be another NES Megaman, it just wanted to grab that IP and marry it to the new kid on the block: 3D platforming. You know what? Happily ever after. That shit rates up there with Mario 64 in my rosey tinted, nostalgia encrusted eyes - and I probably played them about as much as each other, too. _________________

I didn't think of FF 11, I really enjoyed it. I played it for 5-6 years spending about 4 of those in a HNMLS. Getting the Black Belt for my Monk was one of the standout memories in any FF game for me.
I haven't played for about 2 years now. Unfortunately the drama llama got a hold of some and people in my LS either quit or went their separate ways. I got sick of the grind as well and while I reactivated my account from time to time I just couldn't will myself to play long sessions.
I don't want to remember how many hours I spent camping NM's like Ullikummi and Morbolger. _________________
