Don't mistake high visual fidelity with "better" picture. For instance digital screens are technically better but I love watching movies in film.

I'd rather have the jaggies cleaned up. |
I'm the opposite. I'd much rather sacrifice the image quality to maintain a smooth FPS. Jaggies have never really bothered me.

They don't know any better because they are conditioned with the same old refresh rates. It's easy to blame people for being stupid... I do it a lot... but it's hardly their fault if they never knew anything different. |
That's not necessarily true.
I always notice the choppy film framerates when fog rolls in in films, yet I'm usually not bothered by (solid) 30FPS. _________________

If the 'next gen' of consoles can't do games at 1080p at constant 60fps then we might as well skip it.

^ I think if it was an animated face you'd see it's smack bang in the uncanny valley
Looks brilliant though. I wonder if the model is a scan of the researchers? I think male face was a good choice for the detail of stubble and blemishes. Not being female I'm more or less conditioned seeing women as unblemished
Trying to download the live demo... 50MB @ 25kB/s is taking too long =( _________________

Just played with the realtime demo and what impresses me most is specular highlights along with the bump mapping. It is absolutely ridiculous how accurate it handles lighting conditions and exposure.
Runs pretty well too. Running on only one card in Eyefinity (scales up) it managed about 55ish frames. _________________

^ I got over 100 fps through the whole thing surprisingly according to Fraps O_O No eyefinity though obviously.
Imagine how much it would take its toll if that was a game with a bunch of other things happening in the background though. But if this is how the next gen is going to look bring it on _________________

You should be getting a better framerate than that, though eyefinity might be the culprit. _________________

at this point in time uncanny valley has far more to do with animation then it does with rendering. _________________

Tis the eyefinity indeed, peripherals render depth of field and film grain only. Without Eyefinity I'm hitting 200+. _________________

Satoru Iwata, revealed the company has added "NFC" technology to Wii U's tablet controller. The communication standard allows for proximity-based interaction between the controller and a nearby device with similar capabilities.
"By installing this functionality, it will become possible to create cards and figurines that can electronically read and write data via noncontact NFC and to expand the new play format in the video game world. Adoption of this functionality will enable various other possibilities such as using it as a means of making micropayments."
Seriously. This and the rumors of a new-game only xbox, I think this gen will be my final one a a gamer. It clearly more about the business than the consumer in the future................ _________________

I'd say it's less oligarchical now, emech.
Between now and the NES days there has been the proliferation of homebrew software, the rise of digital distribution on open platforms like XBLIG and the App Store, as well as the third party "revolt" of the n64 era; not to mention the first generation with a proper Game Boy competitor and diversity amongst the home consoles.
The only thing that's changing next gen is the fact that we don't have to type in our CC numbers to get DLC any more. _________________

remember back in the NES era to get that little gold star approval from Nintendo you weren't allowed to release the game on a competitors system for at least 2 years. This kind of stuff has always been going on. _________________
