Really...? Reeeeeally? (Honestly, I wouldn't know. I've never played it)

The aim at the moment is to get through my current list (it's going to go well into next year) and then I'll think about going back and playing some of the games I missed.

This week(s) it's been Clay Fighter, Wario Land and Mega Man X. It's been delayed a bit... Blame Zelda. icon_razz.gif

Wonderboy III was excellent, especially considering it is a Master System game. I doubt you'll be disappointed icon_smile.gif

Good week once again. Funny about Clay Fighter, I always remembered being amazed by it, but seeing it now, I'm near disgusted icon_razz.gif

Ha fully agree, I have rather fond memories of yelling at my younger sister because she button mashed her way to victory on it that it was on constant rent until the parents thought it'd start an actual brawl. Unknown to them we had massive teamwork because of Battletoads and that friggen race...

Wow, you sat Shadowrun. That was my favourite game on the SNES, I lost count the number of times I rented it! But yeh, it was difficult to get into I guess.

Yeah, I reckon I'd probably enjoy it if I spent a lot of time getting to know it. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time right now. <_<

The main reason I don't think it "stands" is because it's really not very accessible.

Anyways, two platformers this week: Earthworm Jim and Dynamite Headdy. I'm hoping that I'll have 46 episodes complete (1 more) before the end of the year. That's almost an average of once a week for the past year. Phew! Hardcore.

Good point about Shadowrun, that is very true.

Also agree with you on all points this week, Earthworm Jim was absolutely amazing. Merry Christmas Irvyne and great work this year with your blog!

(Donkey Kong '94, Stunt Race FX, Mortal Kombat II and Sonic & Knuckles)
I've also posted a few interesting stats on the blog.
I'll definitely be continuing into the new year (so many awesome RPGs still to play!!) but for 2011, this is the end. Enjoy! ^_^

Nice work Irvyne on your blog, it always makes for an interesting read and brings in all those nostalgic feelings. Makes me wish it was the 90's again; everything was new and exciting and all people talked about was Nintendo and Sega.

Through the miracles of modern science I've managed to put up a new video, only 1 day after the previous one. (WHOA!)
It's Donkey Kong Country and Demon's Crest. Ah, the memories...

Last update was Illusion of Time. It's taken a while, but this week it's EarthBound, that wacky weird RPG that introduced Ness to the world.

Over the last couple of week's I've started putting the episodes up on GameTrailers. A couple of times I've made the front page as a "featured video," and those episodes generally get 2000-3000 hits, which is pretty awesome! 11 episodes left to go!!

Didn't like how Earthbound all melded together, in effect you have something which borders on an acid trip that becomes enjoyable if you're watching, but playing, in the back of your mind and in your viewpoint, it's all based on solid fundamentals that have been around RPG's since its dawn and it would only turn out later that they thought "lets tie some things to the soundtrack" or attempt to alter how the player is engaged in the gameplay. The "expectation" when you see the "oddities" and are then met with the "normal" undertaking was just a let down.

I mean, it's an alien bee who chooses a plucky kid as a saviour when there's a dog, some birds and other creatures that could have been used to "spice up" the undertaking by the player.

Good review as always Irvyne.

I've pimped it out before but if you have anymore interest in Earthbound it's well worth checking out Clan of the Grey Wolf's website. Roo's review of the series and game itself is incredibly well researched and may answer any lingering questions you have over the game.

The only point I disagreed with was the aesthetics. I really didn't have a problem with the retro look of the game as I felt it suited the game's tone & sense of humour. With that said, the graphics really did look fuzzy on your video - I don't remember them looking that bad when I finished it about six months ago.

Everything else I agreed with - especially the gameplay which I felt was basically 'use strongest attack as often as possible' instead of devising a smart strategy. I enjoyed everything else, especially the adventure aspect of it (eg. Using the right items on the right person to move the story forward) and some of the crazy ideas and worlds was a lot of fun.

Also thought the Pokemon comparison was spot on - they both have a similar sense of humour.

Keep up the good work.

Agree with Killer Instinct, it had a solid base to work with which is always replayable as opposed to a gimmick like clay fighter which ages, and yes, it gets entirely horrible when you cannot pull those combos off as you just get frustrated and utterly spanked. But then, I often have trouble with such fighters, guess they're just not my genre.

But gah, next week, a game which would be good if it wasn't tainted by Toriyama only being able to draw one body type and a frog.
