is that hte demo? Apparently there have been a shit load of problems with it, although everything I've heard about the final release has said that none of the issues are present.

I really really dont understand your comparison to Dragon Age 2 though? It's nothing like it at all. It's far closer to God of war/Darksiders style combat rather then DA 2?

I believe gaming has moved past the cartoon phase and I want something with more substance

An art style doesn't equate to substance. There is nothing imature about a cartoony art style. Games as a medium have the possibility to do literally anything as a visual medium so why in gods name should they be restricted to making things realistic?

Like I said, I haven't actually played the game due to technical difficulties. But the combat seems to be flashy and over the top like DA2 was.

I get your opinion on the art style, I really do, I have just played enough cartoony games of late. I want to play a realistic RPG. And by realistic I don't mean no magic, health bars etc etc. For the sake of immersion, I don't want to play another game where you walk around with a one-handed sword that's bigger than you are.

I realize I probably shouldn't be bitching about it though. It's just a different kind of game, which, on any other occasion, I'd love for it's style. It's just not what I'm looking for at the moment.

oh well trust me when I say, that the combat is nothing like DA 2, if you're after typical RPG combat you're going to be dissapointed though, it plays like an action game, if you've played darksiders the combat is basically identical to that.
one weapon assigned to one button, your second weapon assigned to a second button, you can do combos by mashing the button, holding the button lets you do upper cuts etc, trigger lets you block, block just as they hit you to counter etc.

And to be fair, it's the two handed swords that are bigger then you icon_razz.gif
The art style is basically Warcraft with a higher poly count.

Got mine to work. Anyone else with a similar problem, set your post-processing setting to disabled in the graphics section.

And I apologize, I have to take it back. The stills don't do justice do the art style. While not the seriousness I might want, it's pretty good. I still don't like wielding daggers the size of my arm, or rolling up stairs, but I can deal with that. I'm going to be spending a lot of time on this game.

I've never played a game that reminded me of so many other titles. In the demo I saw elements reminding me of WoW, DA, Fable, obviously TES, etc etc. And it's not like this is bad, as has been the case with other games who copy other games but dress it up a little.

The world is goddam beautiful. It's not as cartoony as I'd expected it would be, and it's flipping inviting. Dialogue is a bit of a drag though, I can see myself skipping all the spoken bits and just reading the lines.

What excites me most are the skill trees. Sure, other games allow you to unlock abilities and such, and it's all pretty cool. But this is a first time in a game where I've seen how the abilities can be used together as naturally as this. It's also the first time I've jumped up and down over different abilites.

Might not be what I'm hungry for at the moment, but it sure does look fucking appetizing.

What did you think of the combat now that you've got a taste of it? Also I'm pretty sure my reaction on seeing the stills was pretty much the same as you so I can't fault ya there icon_razz.gif

The combat is okay. I guess you'll experience it's depth more once you unlock abilities and spend skill points. It's pretty fast paced but not so over the top as to ruin the experience. I can see it being entertaining for long hours of play icon_smile.gif

I just hope enemies scale well and that there are actual challenges throughout the game.

There is enemy scaling in it with your level. From what I've read the demo basically presents you with the simplest and most straightforward enemies in the game, once you get further in they have far more complicated AI and require stratagey to beat instead of button mashing.

Anyone else pick this up today?

Another one of the famous EA games with no manual, which seems odd for an RPG. Looking forward to booting it up.

the review on gametrailers said that if you focus on the main quest it's about 20 hours with sidequests taking up a lot more.

Well, been playing for a good 7 hours now.

Unlike the demo, I've gone with a mage, now I've finally learned some healing magic the game is a lot easier. But gosh there's just so much quests! I try to do one and end up with 5 more and that's not even including factions. This is going to take awhile.

Started playing it. First thing I noticed is the horrid horrid motion blur. I think the game looks better without all the post processing crap. Certainly lets the art style show through (although the colours are annoying me a little). Plugged in a PS3 controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, since it's obviously designed with a controller in mind.

Good game, but I'm currently still emitted by Resident Evil Relevations.

I'm kind of dissapointed that it doesn't include the skip the intro sequence thing that the demo had. I've started three characters so far cause... I can't help myself with these games.

They can?!? How? Just couch behind and shoot?

Being a mage rocks, my guy is teleporting around causing 5 things to explode into a fiery mess at one time, amazing.

So what's the deal with that 7 quests behind a pay gate that you get free on new copies thing posted a while back? All I got was my pre-order bonus?

Really? Behind the manual...if you can call it a manual was a piece of paper with ME3 armor on it, turn it around and there's your online pass.

It's as simple as that. Crouch and shoot. Obviously doesn't work for things like Mark of Flame, but direct damage stuff works fine. Of course, why bother when Mark of Flame is so incredibly OP atm for early game.

Just an FYI for anyone who wants to pick this up on PC; it's a buggy crash happy pos.

I wanted to give the game the benefit of doubt, you know, with its generic setting, story line and mechanics. But there's no way I'm forcing myself to play this through crashes every 10 minutes. I don't know how this even got through QA. Seems to be a number of reports on crashes on the 360.

Disappointed.

I've had a few bugs.
Framerate drops but that comes with magic.
One time a troll was just floating red eyes and the cutscene appeared twice.
Another time in a cutscene, a bad guy said his line twice.

And another time, after I beat a boss my guy was stuck in the ground and couldn't move. Luckily talking to a guy pulled me back out.
