Year of the tiger past several years ago jp icon_razz.gif (at least on the lunar calendar). Tigers will have to wait quite a while before their turn comes around again icon_wink.gif

Hrm, just started my team and realised that upon selecting the 17th player for my squad I'm down to less than 1 mil icon_lol.gif. Have to stop being so hopeful that I won't breach that 10 mil cap and cut some of my top players...

Whelp, I'm in under the moniker of Order of Vervain. Hopefully I do a bit better this year than I have in the past.

I shall need every one of them as Lingy let the team down son. icon_lol.gif

That and I'm not even sure there's a ranga ruckman on a list, so might have to be different trends for different sections, like "dwarf" ruckmen for instance.

OK I'm using all your noggins as well because frankly it's kinda hard to determine what's classified as "blonde" and what's classified as ranga with a hell of a lot of names I'm getting.

I've currently got a list of;

Backmen:
Goddard [STK] ranga
Merrett [BRS] ranga
Fletcher [ESS] possible ranga
Guthrie [GEE] ranga
Cheney [HAW] ranga
Connors [RIC] ranga
Moore [RIC] ranga
2 open spaces

Midfield
Cooney [DOG] balding ranga
Ziebell [NTH] slight ranga
Jackson [RIC] ranga
Thomas [PRT] possible ranga
4 open spaces

Ruck
Roughead [HAW] ranga
Hudson [BRS] bearded sage ranga
Jacobs [ADE] ranga
Browne [RIC] ranga

Forwards
Bate [MEL] ranga
Riewoldt [RIC] crazy ranga
Lynch [ADE] ranga
6 open spaces

And 3m left in the kitty.

Now I've seen lists which state the Selwoods (Adam, Troy and Joel) have ranga heritage yet to me they look more blonde or brown in Joels case, I've also seen lists with the Shaws as possible ranga, yet Rhyce's beard is black and he's bald and heath shaves to black/dark brown as well.

My back up plans are "blondes do it better", "AFL Recycling Service Enclosures: A.R.S.E" or "Buddhas Balding Bollocks" if I can't nut out enough rangas and it can be put on the backburner for when Jules' kids are running around. *shudders*

Yep, i just threw a team together... a lot more building to be done.

I maintain that it was the bye that kept on stuffing me up last year. While i started participating in supercoach a few years ago, i had my best year in 2010 (routinely scored 2000+ per round. Last year was a disaster in comparison.

Hmm, liking the backline, would potentially question Adcock and probably Spurr and Bosely. I haven't heard too much at all of the last two and doubt they'd be looking at any serious gametime in 2012. Spurr might as he's a mature ager and is reportedly pretty decent. See if you could possibly squeeze in a mid tier player like Phil Davis or Brian Lake (though you might have problems with each; weak team and injury/age respectively). Clarke is a canny buy and I'd hink he will take Davis' spot in the backline.

Midfield - I'm a bit iffy on Barlow, not sure he'll get back to that awesome first season he produced a couple of years back. Broken legs are notorious for essentially ruining careers. I don't rate Priddis that highly as a player but one things for sure, he'll rack up the ball and hence the points. I don't think he has as many 'monster' games as other players in his price bracket though. A (for arguments sake and no personal bias whatsoever came into this choice) Murphy for example will get his 25+ possessions a week but will also have those games where he kicks 2-3 goals and that bumps up his score by a fair amount. Hodge sounds like a good buy, had a restriced pre-season last year I'm pretty sure and thus never really got going. Morabito is an excellent buy, out for the entire year with an ACL so priced as a rookie, I'd expect him to jump at least 250k. Not too sure on Mcdonald, I breifly considered him but I don't expect him to play a large amount of games, he's more there in a mentoring capacity and I wouldn't be surprised if he plays less than 14 games. You need Gibbs... Everyone needs him, seriously expect him to tear apart games as he was starting to do late last season where he kicked 14 goals in his last 7 games playing as a roaming HFFer and Midfielder.

Rucks - Roughead; I'm not sure what to think of him. Achilles injuries tend to take a bit of time to get right so I'd probably go for someone else... That and the recruitment of Gunston might mean he plays more rucktime which I don't think he's really that suited to long term. He's also unlikelt to be fit for the start of the season. Giles is a good choice as I'd expect him to play a fair amount of ruck for GWS as they experiment with their rookie rucks. A firm no to Hamling, Stevenson is about the same price and a much larger chance to play as he is a mature ager that was specifically recruited to fill Otten's void.

Forwards - Martin is a gun and should provide some excellent scores throughout. Saad, Zorko and Rowe are good chances to play seniors early in the year. Not sure about Treloar or Schloithe. Perhaps try Pffeifer who has really impressed since being delisted from the Blues a few years back and with a Port team with a paper thin midfield he'll probably get games. Tommy Walsh at Sydney is a good choice too as Sydnye another dominant forward (White hasn't been able to put it toghether as of yet but Reid is coming along pretty nicely)

Also you might want to potentially consider some more DPP, you don't seem to have many interchangable positons at the moment (in particular back/forward). I really like the flexibility they bring so try to incorporate a fair few.

I've also got a pretty rough template going here, need to watch some NAB cup to further determine my rookies and emergencies.

Thinking I need at least one more premium forward and perhaps some more DPP players.

Thanks for the tips Spacecow, clearly I need to read up on the youngsters a bit more.

General comments for your team:

Backline looks really strong - however I'm not convinced that Lake will return to his former glory and will always be an injury risk. Davis is also a risky pick, I expect GWS to get roundly thrashed in most of their games, so while the rookies may be good cash cows I don't see much value in the mid priced players as either cash-cow or keeper.

Midfield - What What? No Murphy icon_razz.gif I like your strategy here, loading up the mids with rookies. I tried a similar thing last year and it seemed to work ok. Caddy could be an inspired choice. As to Goodes, personally I don't like to put premium FWDs into the mids, better to play them up forward and save a premium mid spot for a true gun midfielder.

Rucks - will wait and see on Sandi, lots of injury last year.

Forwards - Strong showing here. Franklin perhaps over priced and likely to drop alot in the first few weeks, might be a better trade target? Brown and Jerry O'Connell both risky in my opinion. I know Jerry showed a lot late last year, but still not conviced he is going to continue it. You have a stack of cash left over, maybe Stevie J in for Jerry?

Thanks for the commentz jp.

Lake and Davis are two that I'm still tossing up about, it's a risk verse reward thing. You know that if Lake can shrug off his injuries/form issues he'll skyrocket in price.

The Goodes thing slipped my mind completely, good pick up. icon_y1.gif He's one of my favourite players so I just jumped at him when I saw his name. That and his versatility and longetivity appeal to me and also the recruitment of Walsh means he'll be playing more midfield which will help his scores.

Rookie mids that will play games are generally easy to come by so I thought I'd stock up.

Sandi is a risk, true. Think I'll end up getting Cox instead, or maybe Kreuzer.

Hawkins really showed a bit late last year and I'll monitor him throughout the NAB but it really looks like he's turned the corner. Part of the reason would be the improvement in Geelongs ruck depth which means he takes far less ruck contests anymore which he isn't really suited to.

I meant to finish my post above by saying "and all of this will completly change after the NAB cup" icon_lol.gif I remember last year everyone was saying Cox was past it, then he came out in the NAB and smashed it icon_smile.gif

Yeah I love The Goode Thing, rad player and all round nice guy. I put ROK in my forward instead of him as I'm squeezing to fit under the cap.

That's the problem I'm encountering, that most tending to ranga dye it or shave it and it's not like their bio's have height weight hair colour on them.

And see, I met Zac (as a St Kilda player sponsor & member I went to functions) and to me he looked entirely brown but that could have simply been under the artificial lighting.

Though I did forget about Banfield, knew there was one more in Brisbane I was just missing but started looking at the Irish imports to try and help my memory. So cheers for that.

No wonder he left then, coward ranga ashamed of his ranganess! Goddard should have pimpslapped some sense into him.

Just took a squiz through the recent draftees, wanting a second opinion on these guys;

William Hoskin-Elliot - Giants
Joel Hamling - Cats
Jordan Lockyer - Sydney
Aiden Riley - Adelaide

Primarily thinking bench positions, since most the good rangas seem to be in excess of 400k each.

Based on a quick google image search My assessments are:

William Hoskin-Elliot - Giants - Close one, but I say rang.
Joel Hamling - Cats - Nope, brunette
Jordan Lockyer - Sydney - Strawberry blonde (acceptable)
Aiden Riley - Adelaide - Definite ranga

Missing 4 now.

Goddard to mid to make way for hawks rookie ranga Andrew Boseley and Gary Rohan to be one step closer to a functioning forward line, to hopefully have enough to push Matty Bate out for his dual poorly named heritage last year and red hair combo killing abilities.

1 mid
3 forwards
then let's go spelunking for hair dye!

Still over a mil left to get these 4 people so 250k each currently.

So in light of Sheedy (god he's crazy) basically anouncing his R1 team I thought I'd make a few changes.

Thinking I have one too many forward rookies and perhaps one too many midfield rookies too.

That aside I'm still a touch iffy on Lake and Hawkins.

Dude, you have 800K left. Why not upgrade a couple players? Extra couple hundred points a game for basically not much loss. The whole reason you pick rookies is so you can have more guns at the business end of the season, so why not have the extra Guns from the start?

EDIT: Here's my initial side.

Not sure if I have the right rookies... but I guess it's all a guessing game, right?
