http://www.retrogamingaus.com/ has old ads from magazines. Not catalogs though. _________________

So what's a good programming language to learn if you're looking at doing something like a simple platformer? I'm getting sick of programmers I hook up with online just vanishing on me and figure should just learn myself. _________________

Game Maker!
It's actually pretty powerful. Slow as fuck and PC/Mac-only, but pretty versatile and more than good enough for a simple platformer. _________________

So the BookDepository is having a sale tonight for 24 hours, new title on sale each hour. I get the impression that the savings will be rather massive.

Has anyone bought anything through them during last year's special? Were the discounts actually decent? _________________

I'm think I need a little help finding a car insurance provider.
I have a dinged up little 1996 Mazda 121. Nothing special, just something easy to drive, cheap, and reliable. I am still on my learners, but want to get insurance on it asap. I'm just not sure who to go through. I wanted the insurance to be as cheap as possible, but also want to go through a company that will not mess me around if I have to make a claim. I really want to make sure that I'm covered if I damage someones nice expensive car, or a tree or something falls on mine.
Which companies do you guys insure your car through? Are they good? Any recommendations? _________________

Seriously, I don't think they operate interstate
Consider getting third-party vehicle only. Rates as a young, learner-owner are pretty horrible. If you can get the insurance under someone else's name with you as a named/additional driver it might be cheaper too.
Oh and check out your state's auto association. If you get roadside through them they sometimes offer discounted vehicle insurance too. _________________

I insure through bingle.com.au, they were alot cheaper then everyone else including budget
I have never had to do a claim so i am unsure what there service is like but they are under written by AAMI so i imagine they would have pretty good and fast service
But because they are under written by AAMI they prefer drivers over 25 and seeing as you're on your L's im assuming you're younger then that, but you can insure the car in your parents name and have yourself as a second driver and they'll probably still work out cheaper then the other's
Also, I used to be insured with GIO and had to do 2 claims with them, 1 was a write off, and both times there service was fantastic, with the write off i had the insurance money less then 10 days after it was assessed which was the day after i put the claim in

is this for comprehensive -- why would you bother when excess+a years insurance will get you a new bubble
bingle = aami = just car = shannons = GIO = as bad as each other, all owned by suncorp
didn't find any major difference in price when getting third party property
payasyoudrive.com.au is worth a look in if you drive a ridiculously small amount each year _________________

I'm with AAMI.
Found them to be best for young drivers.
Shrugs. Lesser of all evils. _________________

I checked out a few places and the annual cost for comprehensive insurance ranges from $420 to $1750 so far.
I seem to be running into issues as the car owner and being a learner driver. The quoting systems assume I have a driver's license if I own the car. I might have to insure it under my partners name. _________________

When I bought my car as a learner the guy at the dealership organised my insurance.
He rang them and told them I was a learner and they told him to put the yr I got my L's in the 'licenced since' section.
I'd definitely double check that first though. You want to make sure they have no excuse not to cover you in the event of an accident. _________________

Call them up on the phone and tell them their system doesn't work for you. They should still give you the 'online discount' if you push for it _________________

^ I might try that! I was hoping to get the 10% online discount. I know I sound cheap, but I have to spread very little butter across a lot of bread at the moment. _________________

And butter doesn't spread very well. Margarine FTW. _________________

Slightly delayed but fun fact about Game Maker is that Dustforce was originally made on it, then eventually ported over to a new engine. It has a surprising amount of power and it's something I've been dabbling in for the past few weeks as well. _________________

Yeah I was looking at some stuff people had done on youtube with it and it seems like it's pretty powerful. _________________

Just a little thing I have been wondering about. Some days I wake up feeling extremely drained, stressed and anxious. The smallest things make me feel like exploding. I almost snapped my glasses today because there were smudges on them.
Any idea to what could be causing this? It's random as far as I can tell, I just don't feel like myself sometimes. _________________ Want cutting-edge Australian video game journalism with a friendly community? Click here!
