To the hero who decided to take it upon themselves to post about the fate of PALGN to the wider world.

Do you realise, that any attempt taken by the current staff to salvage the current situation, or if they decided to create something new that this kind of exposure will severely hamper any such efforts. To whoever sent it out, you are screwing over staff and the entire community, in the long run.

So go forth, oh keyboard warrior and spread the truth... may your quest for, whatever the hell it is that you're trying to do, get whatever the hell it is that you want out of this.

Peace out.

Yeah, seriously. Whoever is doing it, I don't know what you're trying to accomplish, or why. All I know is it is worsening an already frustrating situation, and disrespecting staff privacy for seemingly no reason. A means to no end.

I blame Benza. Those GamerDungeon blokes seem to hate him, and they seem pretty on the ball.

I just hope they don't get found out...

Pretty much a site for dumping text files. It can be used anonymously kinda like Wikileaks.

This kind of thing happens when you have a decently sized community that doesn‘t know what is going on, staff members who do and a website owner who doesn‘t give a shit eitherway.

Don‘t take it the wrong way, but this all has been prstty shady. I‘m glad we know.

The only person I see the information hurting in the long term is Roland.

I really, really loath this attitude. I get where you're coming from and I know it doesn't make us look bad, but not you, nor anybody has the right or expectation to read private conversations. Status of the website and it's future? Sure, I can pay that. But not our private conversations. Nobody would be happy if the private conversations they've had with friends over chat, text, phone or even in person were 'leaked' and made public. This is no different.

As I've said it's not so much the basic email/pm that bothers me. It's the text dump. Its a crude breach of privacy that nobody has any right to see or read, and I'm disgusted somebody thinks otherwise. I assume their either a reckless child, or a Guy Fawkes mask donning keyboard warrior who thinks they're fighting the good fight by doing this.

Completely wrong.

Opportunistic fiends like the Gamer Dungeon people would have a field day with this. Others would hold this against us. Publishers and advertisers may not want to work with us. Furthermore, I and many of the honest staff members have had their trust betrayed by someone with the privilege of having access to private conversations. There is a lot more that goes to the site other than the community and a game exchange - if outside partners don't think they can trust us, we might as well shut down, go down to the ballet shop, buy tutus and there will be no Internet bs and everyone will be happy.

I wasn't happy for a second that I wasn't able to tell everyone what's happening. But as I've said 1000 times by now, I didn't want to say anything unless I had a definitive answer for everyone. Nothing shady, just trying to do the right thing by everyone.

Sounds like you got a mole. The conversation probably should have been more tight though then if the implications are as big as you say.

I don't even know what Gamer Dungeon people are?

would publishers and advertisers really not want to work with you since you've made it clear this is something you're trying to stop and didn't want? Or is it more of just a they wouldn't want ot take the risk thing?

We need a witch-hunt!

FYI - a "gamer dungeoner" is a person who acted like a child and pissed off about 10% of PALGN membership. They also thoroughly amused the other 90% of the membership and created an unprecedented amount of site traffic. Which was nice.

There is. In the seven years that I've been at PALGN, no one has betrayed the trust of the other staff and admins like this. It's not something I would have expected, particularly as everyone who had access to these conversations knew the implications of letting the information out.

The issue is, again, trust. If they can't trust information and agreements to be kept amongst those that are relevant, they won't want to work with us. This isn't IGN where dick waving is enough to guarantee exclusives, there is a lot of hard work involved in working with these people and gaining trust. And if it's lost, it's extremely difficult to get back (as first hand experience dictates).

Pretty sure i know who we are talking about here, and that person is probably mortified at the moment over this....i imagine they didn't think too hard about it originally before sending that email....

None of the ex-staff should have access to the forum... and everyone on the current team has denied sending the leak.

I have an idea of who to trust and who not to trust, but do I know who send the original email? I don't. I only have circumstantial and anecdotal evidence, so I won't point the finger unless I know for sure.

If the leaker is reading this, and is wishing to redeem themselves at all, contact me privately (hah!) at jeremy@palgn.com.au and we can at least reconcile any issues and differences. Otherwise, well, I've made my decisions and either way, the universe will sort itself out.

Are you sure it's not someone using a compromised staff account, or an exploit in this version of the forum software? (This is quite an old phpBB version, and it has known unpatched exploits in it).

Yeah anyone with some reasonable technical expertise could hack it. However, the staff accounts are controlled by a two step process, so it's unlikely to be that - particularly as I have a list of staff as well.

However, the person who wrote the original email would have required intimate knowledge of the situation to write that, and only more recent staff could have known or written about it (unless they told someone all about it... but that's a wild goose chase).
