(why did I have to step on it? lol)

Pretty happy with that turn out, needed a few more flashes around the wheels and side of the car.... but security came up to me and told me to leave icon_sad.gif

How big was he? I was out on a bug hunt a few weeks back, went for an hour long walk looking for any insects I could find, but specifically hoping to encounter a ladybug as I had found a picked one up the previous day in a similar spot on the way to lunch but without a camera.

So I'm out on a walk, 5DII with 100mm macro, 7D with the MP-E 65mm and twin macro flash, and perfectly sunny weather, after an hour long walk inspecting grass, tree trunks and bushes by the lake, I found some ants, and accidentally killed one brushing it off my arm, his mangled body landing amongst his brethren, kicking a leg, but crippled, I watched a crowd form and try to help/drag him before giving up and abandoning him. I felt awful!

Then it happened, I saw what at first appeared to be a small finch, but it was flying too slowly, "oh lord!" I exclaimed dramatically as I pointed at the giant beetle beating his way through the air, before landing clumsily atop a nearby tree, some 6 meters up, well out of range for a candid close up. He mocked me from above, toying with the feeble twig it sat upon, slipping every now and again as it straddled the mighty wood.

Then it flew away and that was the end of that chapter, I walked home with a photo of the ant I murdered being dragged by a coworker, and a long distance silhouette of a clumsy beetle, but only if you looked really hard.

Probably about 5mm long. A decent size for a random invader of my computer room. He's sitting on the bezelled panel of a lightswitch if that helps.

I wouldn't feel bad about the ant if I were you. My beetle won't be posing for pictures any time soon. icon_twisted.gif

http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/7345/create-your-own-large-60-page-30cm-x-30cm-personalised-photobook---only-39-delivery-included

ordered 2x scoopons the other day. thinking it was going to run out so I got 2. Only to be met with a refresh of the scoopon the time it ran out. Hardly a deal if its an ongoing thing. That said, I looked around online (blurboz+this) and the price ain't bad.

Currently uploading my 1st book. I'll post impressions + Pics when its here. Not really pimping them til I get my copy and then I'll post back with paper/print quality. Lets see what a $39 photo book looks like. I think its hilairious they call it 60 pages when its a 30 page 2 sided book.

Not sure if serious.

Do you open a book and expect one number per piece of paper?

^ What are you talking about? That's awesome. I'm jealous!

One of my good friends also took some killer dragonfly shots (see below). It must be dragonfly season and I'm missing out. =(

I found one! Saw him settling down at dusk, was still there when I came out later that night.

He disappeared before I could get some decent shots with fresh flash batteries though =(

Found these critters instead. I had to take something to test out these new Enerloops. I'm impressed with how fast the recycle time is compared to even new, fresh non-rechargeables. I may need to buy more.

Seriously Grim how do you get all these awesome shots!?

I'm so wanting to fly out to Perth so I can see how you do it and so you can give me a lesson on it!

Eneloops also have great life to, i use them in my pentax and get around around 600+ shots out of 1 charge and i've had them for 12 months now

How I do it? Cram the 100mm macro lens onto 1:1. Rock back and forth until the bug is in focus. A flash or floodlight helps too icon_lol.gif

Quite chuffed with how this one turned out. It's no awesome macro or light painted cars like you guys are putting out though icon_sad.gif
