if anyone feels that the image quality of a Sony is "fantastic" in general, then I dare say that they haven't seen what some of the better TVs can actually do.

So what's a "better" TV? LG and Toshiba panels are pretty average from what I've seen. Samsung's comparable to Sony IMHO. Not sure what other brands are floating around.

Panasonic are the best in terms of contrast representation, from what I've seen (sans Pioneer, but they're long gone now). Contrast is probably the single-most important element of image generation for flat panels and a lot of people underestimate it when comparing to flashy sub-technologies, like 200hz and the like.

However, Panasonic predominately focus on Plasma and their range sub-40' leaves a little to be desired. With that said, they easily make some of the best panels that I've ever seen.

Sonys are great at the upper-end of the market, but that's exactly the problem. By the time you get up to that end, you've already got a lot of ample competitors for much less dollars.

Personally, I'm a Plasma man now, but I have dealt with both major tech brackets.

The problem is at 32', your options are admittedly limited. If you're deadset on LCD tech, Samsung is probably the next-best option, but they're known to have an above-average failure rate. Some of the Sharps bear the same panels as Sonys, but don't cost the same absurd amount of dosh, so they're also a viable option. I miss Hitachis, I'm bummed that they pulled out of the market as they were a great comparison.

LG are rubbish.

Ideally, if you must go LCD, it really pays to put down the extra and get some form of LED technology in there, otherwise you're just throwing money away.

Samsung make the panels that go into Sonys too icon_smile.gif

Makes sense, the chain I worked for was one of the very few that refused to stock Samsung so my info on them was limited.

With that said, it kinda reinforces my point that you don't need t spend money for a Sony when you can get the same (or better) for less.

All this 100Hz/200Hz stuff they're bandying about on new TVs is confusing me. From what I understand, most content is delivered in 50Hz or 60Hz, so what's the point of having a TV capable of twice or four times that? Sounds like another gimmick to me.

It is, but depending on what you're watching it can be alright. The TV will try to 'interpolate' between frames to make up the extre 1-2 that it can display. It's meant to be good for sports I hear?

You know what really ticks me off? GamerDungeon!

FalconDude creates a new forum for reasons irrelevant of why it pisses me off. For the good part of a year, unscrupulous self-promotion that's been both within an inch of the rules and breaking them has allowed GamerDungeon to become to place where people from PALGN can bitch about PALGN, it's staffers and members without reprise from moderators. The attitude of the administrators and moderators of GamerDungeon is that of egotism and abuse. A number of members get free reign to bitch about everything PALGN and thus festering resentment. After almost a year of this it starts to split the community between people who do and don't post on GamerDungeon. The problems people have with GamerDungeon spill across onto PALGN and with it comes the resentment that it's membership have.

After snooping around GamerDungeon for a while I've come to the realisation that the situation is much worse than I thought. If I was still an administrator threads would be locked and perma-bans would be handed out. The attitude of some people has been pathetic, acting like a bitchy 14 year old princess. If you have an issue with someone, raise it with a moderator. If you don't get satisfaction, take it up with an administrator. Don't join another forum just to bitch about them behind their back, it's just pathetic and the actions from FalconDude and others who help run GamerDungeon have been unscrupulous in their promotion and their attitude of undermining this community is both disappointing and shameful.

I'm not one for getting riled up about much, in fact during my tenure as administrator it was a real reminder of how awesome this community is and how (comparatively) little drama we have on the forums. Though this issue has been festering under the surface for a long time and it's becoming a bigger issue everytime I visit. Speaking as another member of PALGN, I have a simple solution to this, you either enjoy PALGN for what it is (or was) and the community or leave. **** off elsewhere and don't drag whatever problems you have with other people from other websites onto here.

At this point I have two regrets (I'm a person who lives with few regrets), one was closing the game exchange and not investing more time into how I can keep it viable for members. The other was not enforcing the rules harder against FalconDude and others for the sort of crap they got away with months ago, I feel that if I had a lot of these problems could be avoided.

^^^Yeah, you will notice in fast action the difference. However, I don't think there is a difference between 100Hz and 200Hz but my partner reckons there was as he spots "ghosting" on a 100Hz during cricket. When I was tv hunting, what was confusion is some "motion control" where the tv was really 50Hz to get it to do "100Hz" not natively but still advertised as 100Hz.

What ticks me off, I made a mistake of pre-maturely downgrade the home's internet by a month since I am moving out soon and in fear of being capped, I need to wait until I can get access to a backup copy of Skyrim and had to pause the DLCs and PSN games. Doh!.

I really do hope that the new 'Australian video gamery' website some people here are working on includes a trading section.

It's really no surprise that, when you google his online alias, the first hit is a forum post that says this:

And if no-one wants to moderate it, again, I'd put my hand up (yet again). If we could get PALGN Game Exchange back to what it was in 2010, I would weep tears of joy.

Just a bad day yesterday.

Had some really nasty allergic reaction to something and all day my eyes were burning in agony. Constantly watering, stinging, etc. No amount of washing up or eye drops helped. Then the day got worse as it got hotter and hotter in my room, then hit the peak with some family stress outs and having to factory reset my phone due to some google account screw ups.

Then my phone decided to wipe half my contacts upon reset, due to it not actually copying stuff onto my sim. Gah.

At least I slept ok. Still grumpy as hell though.

well on the bright side, today can only be better right?

On my own thing, the entire online system for PS3 can go fucking die in a fire.

That has to be the most complex, unintuitive, shit hole of a thing. I just don't get how it can be that badly designed.

So Dissidia Duodecium was on sale on the PSN. I figure what the hell, just beat the first one may as well.

So to buy it, since I've changed my CC details, I can't get it, instead of something simple like giving me the option to enter new details there, to enter new details I have to quit out of the store, go into my account settings which requires me to log in again, change the CC details, then quit out, go back into the store, find the sale again, download it.

Then transfering it to my PSP. Except for some reason it won't recognise my PSP as being plugged in when I try to transfer a game (It's never had a problem with any of the other games I've bought this way) I end up having to swap out the memory cards, and transfer it onto my girlfriends PSP, then swap back the memory cards.

Then to play the game I have to activate it, so I try to log onto the PSN on my PSP with the worst keyboard ever, at some point I've put in a typo on my e-mail address on the PSP and it won't let me change it, so I had to start a new e-mail address with the typo, get it to send me a reset to my password so I can get onto the PSN on my PSP, activate it and get an error message.

I end up plugging it into my PS3 trying to activate it through that, get another error message.

Finally I found out I could activate it through my PC, and go through that to get it to work....

Fucking christ I would have preferred to pay the extra 20 bucks and buy the game at JB.

Ever been tested for dust or pollen allergies? They're the sort of thing that hits you without knowing why.

No, though I'll probably give that a shot soon enough, as my eyes were pretty bad yesterday.

I DID mess about with WD-40 Air Dusters on Saturday though, so the missus and I have a feeling it's from the chemicals in it or the dust being blown up.

Denny, I'm having a bad day too. D:

I'm on stress overload at the moment.

My medical issues keep getting more and more complicated, and I'm starting to worry. There is a mass in my neck that is getting all close and comfy with some main arteries and nerves. I need surgery to remove it, but apparently the surgery is really tricky when the mass is this large so the doctors have been trying me on all these different medications to try and reduce its size. None have worked, but I'm getting a lot of nasty side effects. The location of the mass means there is a chance of stroke, it is a low chance but it still frightens me a little.

I have been unable to work for a month (so I'm just a tad poor) and I am so far behind at Uni that it will be a miracle if I pass.

In the post today:
- I got a letter calling me up for Jury Duty.
- A parcel arrived, and the books I'd ordered from Amazon to keep me company in the hospital are torn and water damaged.
- I got a letter from the hospital saying my next visit is the day before my planned trip to see the Harry Potter exhibit which I have been looking forward to since September and have spent a bit of money on. It will most likely get cancelled and I will be heartbroken.

I think I hate the postman. >:

The 100/200hz tech is indeed good for sports or fast-action content (such as gaming)... Or you could just buy a plasma and not deal with ms display delays. icon_wink.gif

Look on the bright side; after all that mucking around, you never have to chage disks in your PSP to play Duodecim now. icon_wink.gif

Now if only it was a half-decent sequel...

aww well now you go and tell me that icon_razz.gif I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

More first world problems to bitch about

League of Extraordinary gentlemen 1969

You can suck a dick.
I've never bought into the whole Alan Moore is a god of comics writing thing, V was all right, Watchmen was kind of lame, From Hell was a fucking mess, but man League, league was the fucking business.
So when I found out that he carried on the story in different time eras I was wrapped.

For those that have no idea what it is, basically the original stories were assembling a kind of super hero team using characters from victorian english fiction. So we have Mina Harkins (From dracula) leading a team of Alan Quatermane, Dr Jekyl/Mr Hyde, Captain Nemo and The Invisible Man. What made it awesome was Mina Harkins who is basically the ballsiest character in the book. Unlike the version of her in the movie who has vampire powers or some shit she's just an ordinary chick who's gone through some horrific shit and is no longer scared of anything. She's the kind of character that when Hyde (Who is kind of like the hulk, only if the hulk was deviously intelligent and scheming) threatens her she stands her ground and tells him to cut his shit out.

One thing they establish in the book is that there has always been a team like this, made up of the various fictional characters of whatever era. So I figured that that was what 1910 and 1969 were going to do, establish super hero teams out of the fictional characters of that era.

Instead we got Mina Harkins, Alan Quatermains son and Orlando... a gender switching imortal guy/girl for some reason. Who are now drinking from a fountain in africa to become imortal. Also instead of Mina being this hardcore take no shit kind of chick, she's the kind of chick that storms off to bed and has a cry when the guys make fun of her for trying to sound modern.

It's just... all so crap.

Conclusion.

Alan Moore can eat a dick.
