Hi, I'm a thread.
Expected and planned, but now 'confirmed', Iwata has stated the Wii U will launch globally, including Australia, by the end of they year.

So there's that. _________________

I'll be interested to see if it takes off like the Wii did. I don't see the 'tablet' controller really being much more attractive to your Wii crowd than an actual tablet (iPad). Plus they've already got a Wii. _________________

All I can say is this: please don't let Wii U be the console's final name. _________________

Nintendo keep saying they will learn from their mistakes. Like the 3DS launch with NO softare.
Wii U needs to launch with some amazing 1st party titles. A new Mario/Zelda/Metriod/Starfox is probably a must. Not Wii U Sports.
I'll buy it regardless cause we all know what games will end up being there. I just hope Nintendo get this right. When I say right, I mean:
1) Great online service for social gaming, i.e. a real friends system
2) Great online service for purchasing DLC and games
3) No backwards polices or infratsuture descisions!
I'm greatly interested in the Gamecube ports apparently on the way. Nintendo really should look at making the gamecube and wii games available online through the Wii U. That would be a masterstroke.
I really hope it also was some killer features so it just doesn't look like a supped up 360 with a tablet screen. That would be sad. I actually don't really THAT excited for the machine at this stage, it really isn't looking to give us anything they we don't already have. I guess the big thing is for Nintendo is they can potentially have the best ports of 3rd party games (RE6, GTA) and that might get people to jump ship? _________________ Shin J Leon.

This guy is live tweeting Nintendo's Investor meeting.
Best thing so far?

They've stated that it will be a personal account, as opposed to a singular code linked to hardware. So some like PSN/XBL accounts, where you can multiple on one console, as opposed to a singular friendcode tied to the hardware.
They've also confirmed retail games on the eShop, NFC and figurine scanning (or whatever) for the WiiU and paid DLC.
Edit: Oh right, they also said that we'll be able to sell back digital copies of games. That could be REALLY interesting. _________________

What if every account had its own friend code, though?

That's still better than the current system. _________________

Full retail downloads really isn't that great for the Wii U. 3DS is more attractive option.
Still feels like Nintendo are just giving us what the 360 and PS3, hell, PSP have already done. Not that great, just great compared with Nintendo's offerings to date. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Just make it the Nintendo U. Its the same basic name, but is less awkward, and gets rid of a fair chunk of the possible Wii brand confusion. And by this point, people will have heard the name 'Wii U' enough to know to associate the 'Nintendo U' as the 'new Wii'.
Give me all your marketing dollars, Nintendo, I'm a genius at this shit.

Super Wii is such an awesome name. I hope it sticks. Either that or just Nintendo. So you got Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo. I dunno, back to hiatus, returning to you all Wii UI launch if I can maintain discipline. _________________

Super Wii is great. They gotta do this. Although they seem to think that the 3DS was too close to the DS and that cause the sales problems.... _________________ Shin J Leon.

I think it was more the DSi which caused problems for the 3DS. The DSi being launched as a DS with improvements, but not a new system, and then the 3DS, which seems like "oh they added 3D too".
But I have the feeling they'll just re-name it to something different. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."
