Yeah I have no idea of the backend, just that it genuinely does feel more precise at 1024x768 than 1680x1050 does because it doesn't feel like I have to drag the mouse around. Maybe it is placebo, but I definitely notice my aim is better at a lower resolution.

Could be just the fact that at 1024x there's not as much noise or pixel density as things feel closer. *nfi*

Decided to check out The Darkness II. It seems alright, though I only played the demo of the first so I can't really compare. Graphics are decent too, kind of weird they went with this style.

I'm not digging the new art style. I think the first game looked better.

You're not alone. I preferred the gritty darker style of the first game. I enjoyed the demo, but i'm really not digging the comic style art. I understand why, but meh...

Anyway, what's the best way to take screenies? I've been using Steam to take screen shots, and I want to post some in here, but they all come out over compressed and look like balls.

Fraps is good but sometimes it doesn't work for me. Dirt 3 screenshots come out all rainbow-like when I use fraps.

Save them in TGA when using fraps, they are about 5MB each or more but for some reason they save instantly without any delay or slight frame rate judder, which also means you can spam the screenshot key if you're trying to get a perfect shot (: I guess its something to do with the fact they have no compression so it doesn't require a second to compress them? Just guessing. They look the best quality and save the quickest so you can't really go wrong. icon_smile.gif Then you can do your own JPGs out of them at whichever quality you like.

If you want maximum quality you should save them as BMP in Fraps as it captures the image pixel-for-pixel. Then, using image editing software, save them as JPG, PNG or something with a high quality setting to prevent artefacts.

Trufax: PNG is a lossless compression format (it's literally the exact RGB - or RGBA - image data inside a ZIP archive). Don't be afraid to save directly to that.

EDIT: TGA is also a lossless format. Mainly uses runlength encoding, but I do believe it also has the ability to serve as a ZIP container. If it's saving 5MB files though, that's most likely saving it in an uncompressed format.

(/me has written a TGA loader and saver from scratch, yet still prefers PNG)

Jesus was just going back looking for the links to the texture pack for ME 2 and noticed this screen shot, that's some hilariously bad texture seaming on her hair line. I mean jesus that's just shockingly bad.

Yeah he really fucked that up, which is a shame, as Jack's new texture is really, really clean and nice looking. The goddamn seam makes it look like she's wearing someone else's face.

So I take it as a character improvement.

These ME2 screenies are making me want to play it. Problem is, I didn't like it near as much as ME1 icon_sad.gif

Speaking of.

I gotta say, this is probably my most enjoyable playthrough of the game yet, even moreso than my first. Everything is really clicking and I'm powering right through all of the quests. Loving the dialogue and stories, even though I've heard them all before and don't normally like every character or plot. I tried to play through the game again about...eight months ago maybe. Got halfway through or so but felt burnt out. Booted the game up for Arrival and then that was it. This, on the other hand, is going well.

Documenting my playthrough via screenshots helps I think. I did it with Twilight Princess in Dolphin and really enjoyed it. Plus this is going to be my canon playthrough for Mass Effect 3. For what it's worth, I kept the Genophage research data, but didn't belittle Mordin's actions or encourage him to save the Krogan. Deleted Keiji's greybox.

All loyalty missions done with the exception of Legion, as I leave the Reaper IFF mission until very last. Cleaned up the last of the N7 missions last night, so now I've only got Overlord and Firewalker, then the Reaper IFF and everything that follows. Saving Shadow Broker and Arrival until post-game.

Shadow Broker is such a good quest. I wish it had been a bit longer, maybe more akin to a traditional 'expansion pack', set across multiple systems, but the variety is top notch and it's really well paced.

Apologies for the onslaught of images, and if anybody thinks they're too spoilerific let me know and I'll remove them.

Jarrod you have too much influence here, you made me spend another 30 hours going through ME2, and then after that 10 hours skimming through ME1 icon_razz.gif

Well, this marks the end of my ME screenies (until ME3) He's some pretty space pictures from ME1.

and my femshep in her original form before I changed her features for ME2.

Alpha Protocol was the shit. Anyone who hasn't played it should, immediately. And hang your head in shame the entire time.
