Im happy as long as the regulars I have come to know and respect stay around. The one thing I have taken away from this website which before I was so narrow minded is a good game is a good game regardless of what platform its on and thanks to this Palgn has allowed me to experience some truly wonderful games I wouldnt of looked at twice, and I have the wonderful staff, the excellent writers and the awesome community to thank for opening my eyes. _________________

Just to clarify two things:
1) Yeah, it's time to move on. There is talk that suggests that time is literally around the corner, but the place is as yet hidden. S'all I know, and it's really not my place to muddy the waters further by posting what I think I know.
2) Looking back at what I posted, it was a little vague - by the 'especially those the remain' comment I meant those that are still part of the community as well, not just the couple of writers/admin still kicking about. _________________

So much contradicting information about where this forum is going. I suppose we just gotta keep on waiting.

As Jarrod has said, there is no intention from anyone on shutting down PALGN and the forum. PALGN will be around for the forseeable future. _________________

Mysterious! You got yourself one RSS subscriber. I don't like "Like"-ing things. _________________

The forum isn't going anywhere, to the knowledge of any staff. Whoever PM'd IHateFrasierCrane stating the forum was doomed is pulling their own speculation and hyperbole (also, fuck you whoever did it, for sharing my private conversations).
You might wake up tomorrow and the forum will be gone. You might not. None of us can vouch for the assurance of PALGN's future. What we can vouch for is that there has been no discussion, information or heads-up given for any plans what so ever to discontinue the website and forums. If this all just disappears it will be as much as a surprise to you as us. _________________

I say we invade a smaller, poorly armed and much weaker forum.
Take over Blitzkrieg style, make ourselves moderators and put forumers who object in concentration camps.
Okay, this is just getting creepy. Maybe just the first part, then. |
Hyperactive Forums?
Print media is dead anyway.

Basically, the website owner really doesn't care either way, is what you're trying to tell us? Roland has ceased most if not all communication with the PALGN staff, leaving them oblivious to what he has planned for the site? _________________ Want cutting-edge Australian video game journalism with a friendly community? TLDR; Australian Gaming Bargains was the ******* hardest thing I ever had to write for this site and I have immense respect for both Joseph and Cody. |
Awww, someone remembers me.
*hugs Vervain*
I can remember all those late nights typing up the articles while logged into PALGN IRC, chatting away whenever I felt like breaks. It was A13x who suggested to include the pictures of catalogues, and slowly I incorporated other ideas into Aus Gaming Bargains. No one ever did follow-up with the Bargain Round-ups though...
I can remember a time where I used to type up Aus bargains, Xbox Live Bargains, Steam bargains and the Nintendo update each week! And yeah, if articles were late people did get a little worked up about it. In particular, I can remember when we had an issue with an online retailer arguing with us about not including their listings in Aus Bargains. They didn't like my response saying it was for local retailers only, none of this online business. James and Jeremy were both really supportive though, simply telling me to just keep doing what I was doing and professionally ignore their banter.
I hold no regrets with my time writing for PALGN. I liked the whole team-nature we had going. Plus I enjoyed saving people money, the discussion that would generate from reviews and other articles, and in general just having a form of published work to my name. Also, it kept me sane - I do not hide the fact I was unemployed for the entirety of my time as a staff writer for PALGN (though to be fair some of that time was spent studying, if only briefly...).
But perhaps the thing that has lasted the longest from PALGN are the friendships I have formed with people. I'm often chatting to some of the fellow forumers on facebook or in the case of Mr Vervain here, a poking war to end all poking wars! And lastly, I met my best friend through PALGN. Although he doesn't even lurk here anymore, the reality of it is we would have probably never came into contact were it not for this wonderful community.
To see this site in the state that it is in is disappointing to say the least. I can only hope that whatever is planned in the background (I'm guessing a new site altogether that is run by the newer/not as old staff?) it serves them well. _________________

Conjecture and theory based on accounts you were not privy to. When I said Roland gave no indication of closing the website I meant it. Roland has spoken to all staff about perusing PALGN's future. This is what he has said, thus this is what I am telling you. What actually happens is something I'm not going to predict, because I'm not a psychic. _________________

Having just read the email sent by 'annonymous'...
Words cannot even begin to express how utterly dumbfounded, disappointed, disgusted and furious that someone would even contemplate doing something like that. To not only screw up the work being done by staff in the background and kick a man while he's down, but to share private conversations that, in accordance to staff guidelines is a violation of the agreement taken as a staff member... that's just as low as anything that Roland has done.
