Here's a fucking question for (the remaining) PALGN staff - when are you going to man the fuck up and let us know what the fuck is going on around here?

For months now, we've seen staff member after staff member leave, with cryptic reasons. We've seen the speed of the site equal to connecting to www.infoseek.com on a 28k modem. And we've seen dick all new content.

The boards are dying. The site is dying.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON???

Well they should all be shoo-ins for the PALGN awards this year.

We should have a catagory for best ex-staff member this year. The iQuit award.

Well well well.

From an anon. email address, I received the most fascinating detail of what's happening. "Deep Throat" as I am taking to call him (huge X-Files nerd here) has given me an email stating the problems, and included a text dump from the staff forum discussing issues that have arisen and not been fixed. All due to one person (no fucking prizes for guessing who).

I got the all clear to repost from Deep Throat, but i'm a little hesitant at the moment.

All I will say now is PALGN is up shit creek without a paddle.

EDIT - I will include this quote from the email... "I hope this answers your questions somewhat. It sucks, but PALGN will not survive. xxxxx will probably soon stop paying the bills soon and then it will disappear from the internet."

Well, first off, PM me a copy.

Or email me one. You have my email address from when you bought some DS cards of me.

Secondly, we start fresh.

www.comeatmebro.com.au is not registered yet.

We need to get it started before PALGN's defeat.

Even a Facebook group for the new move so people know where to go, as i'm sure alot of us here have at least one PALGN contact on Facey.

Well that sounds a little depressing. If we do end up needing to start up a new site, I'd happily pitch in a bit! Probably best to wait until we actually know for sure though.

I've been updated.

Don't get your hopes up.

The person who has a similar name to a music instrument company that rhymes with Poland is a cunt.

He doesn't care about PALGN. He has lied through his teeth.

I'm happy to bail if we get something up and running.

Seriously? Whats stopping us? This place is deader than a graveyard in terms of articles. It's just the forum that is surviving, and we need to move to greater places.

I'm all for

the

Just wait and see what happens before making plans for a new site, everyone.

Maybe it's about time we find out exactly what's happening? 25% of the community makes up users with some form of mod/staff access, can't one of you guys let the other 75% know what's happening rather than just giving us the gist of it?

And with all the 'wait till we find out' business.... Frankly we've been waiting for months now. A number of ex-staff continually complain they either can never get into direct contact with Roland, or can't get a meaningful discussion going. I can easily see us waiting eternally at this point for an answer we're never going to get.

He keeps paying the bills the way the site is going now, so obviously there is some sort of incentive for him there to keep doing it. So shouldn't it be up to us now to 'tip it over the edge' so to speak?

Staff work their arses off for no money for the benefit of this site. The old members are still hanging around amongst all the leaving and site slowdowns 'for the benefit of the site.' The only person benefitting from all of this at the moment is Roland, who's probably sipping on c0cktails in the carribbean laughing at these posts. I mean for f***s sake he's saved money by going back to a slow server so he can continue to sip said c0cktails (if I'm wrong, please refer to IHateFrasierCrane's post at top of page), so to me the site is going to remain the same for a while yet, before the next moneysaving scheme comes in.

Just saying that I think it's up to us to take initiative now, because we're either going to be continually assured 'everything is going to be OK', or we'll wake up one morning and everything is gone because some arse-hat who calls himself Roland (who cares about getting banned anymore) didn't pay his bill.

Well, we've had plenty of practice at waiting. For those that are still left, it is either a skill or talent.

I still think most of you are expecting some grand revelation of sorts. It's not going to happen because there's nothing to 'reveal' persay. Use your heads. Ask yourselves why someone would stop writing for a website, and put two and two together based on the information here. There's no grand conspiracy, and no revelation around the corner. People are leaving because they no longer wish to work for PALGN. Whether or not they want to share their personal reasons is up to them, and what they do post-PALGN is something you'll probably find out eventually. Some of us will continue writing. Some of us wont. Where and when will have to wait.

I don't really know what answers people want. Near everything has been answered. Seems like you just want it spelled out.

For what it's worth, there really does look to be a good reason to wait - although that itself is shrouded in mystery for a little bit longer, by the looks of it.

I have to say though (and especially for those that remain), that while I already had a good deal of respect for the staff and admin here, I never quite realized just how much restraint you've all shown in the face of some mind-blowing bull****. Must have been hard. Thanks for all the (continued) effort, all.

Edit: Ninja'd by That One Guy.

Of course, I wouldn't hold out hopes if you're expect PALGN to be 'fixed'. But hey, the cool thing about an online community is that it can move...

Nothing has been answered apart from the fact that Roland is an ass and that the death of the site is inevitable. I think we're past the fact that this site is going to be saved. It would be better to know rather than the site up and disappearing the next morning which at this rate seems the most likely outcome.

Karai, you hit the nail on the head. I don't want to post the whole text dump for the shit storm it would create, and the slag fest it would generate. This isn't about that, it's about fucking answers and we're all finally starting to know wtf is happening. The effort by (past & present) PALGN staff has been outstanding, and we <3 you guys.

Here's hoping PALGN will continue in one from or another in the future. I love this community, and I don't want to see it die.

To the knowledge of every remaining and ex member of PALGN, Roland has no intentions of pulling the website, and regardless of staff situations the website should still exist, and the forum should still be available to post on. Roland has given no indication he intends otherwise.

There's your answer to that concern.

This is what a bunch of people have been saying, but everyone seems to be caught up instead with vaguely answering/not answering/hinting at what happened to the site.

Quite frankly, what happened to the site, how incompetent the manager is, etcetra etcetra don't matter to me in the slightest. Its incredibly inconsequential to me. What does matter to me is that the once thriving community is falling apart because of it. I don't give a crap about palgn.com.au the website, but I care if the best posters don't have anywhere to make interesting posts.

Seriously, other have said it, but its time for a mass exodus. Jump on some free forum hosting and begin again, and see what happens from there. Leave the Palgn boat to sink, but save the community while its still possible.

I've got something to say, it's pretty much unrelated to what's happening right now, but it ties in with Karai's mention of how much restraint the staff have to show.

In regards to the Australian Gaming Bargains features: If one was ever so much as 12 hours late, people cracked the ***** and had a hissy fit over it. Now let me tell you the work that goes into them.

First of all: Most of the catalogues that are needed to write AGB come out online on a Tuesday or Wednesday, so that was when most of the work was able to be started.

Secondly: If you lived in an area that didn't have catalogues delivered to you, you then had to wait until they were posted online by either the company themselves or a third party. In my area, I didn't get JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and occasionally the people that dropped them off got lazy and I just didn't get anything.

Thirdly: Now that you've done the prep work with the catalogues that were at hand, and the ones that are carrying over from the previous week, it's Wednesday night and you finally have the rest of what you need to get this article done!

Fourthly: It's now time to get the handy word file of all the appropriate formatted bbcode headers and formats and start putting them in the right places! Ten minutes or more later, depending on how many new catalogues there are, and you're ready to start the hard stuff!

Fifthly: Now you get to go through every single page of every single catalogue, staring at tiny writing that even people with perfect sight struggle to read and painstakingly type out the game title and price, while making sure that you get the formatting perfect.

Sixth: One to five (No joke, and that wasn't even during the Christmas/Toy Sale rush when it was even worse) hours later, depending on how many catalogues there were and how much content was in them.

Seventh: Now that you've got the text ready, it's time to jump on PALGN, copy over what you've written and then upload the scans of the catalogues!

Eighth: Now that you've got the images uploaded, you now need to copy over the correct number of bbcode formats for each image and then space them out so that there is no page stretching and to also make it look nice.

Ninth: Now you get to go back through the entire 3000+ word article you've just written and check everything to make sure there are no mistakes in any of the spelling or formatting. At this point you've been working on the article for hours, it's late at night, and if you've had work that day then you're trying not to pass out.

Tenth: It's then validated by another staff member and it's put on Palgn for everyone to read.

This is something that Joseph did for years, without any help except for once or twice where I jumped in to help him, I then did for 6 or 7 months and now Cody has done for over a year.

To do that every week, on top of the other reviews, previews and news articles, not to mention working outside of PALGN to support ourselves and our own social lives was hell.

We did it because we thought the community would appreciate it and because we wanted to help people out. Other than the odd thanks we got, most of all we got was people pointing out the few errors that were made on occasion, complaining about it taking longer than normal to come out and on occasion acting like spoilt brats.

TLDR; Australian Gaming Bargains was the ******* hardest thing I ever had to write for this site and I have immense respect for both Joseph and Cody.

I say we invade a smaller, poorly armed and much weaker forum.

Take over Blitzkrieg style, make ourselves moderators and put forumers who object in concentration camps.

Okay, this is just getting creepy. Maybe just the first part, then.
