Hello everyone,
I want to buy a HDMI cable for my 360. Is the official Microsoft one worth the extra expense, or will a cheaper generic imitation one work just as good? If so, where can I get one from? I'd rather buy one in person rather than online. _________________

All HDMI cables are the same, don't believe marketing. My Aunt bought a $140 reduced to $70 cable because it "reduced input delay". It is no better than my $5 cable. You can buy them anywhere, but you'd definitely be able to buy them cheaper online. The only thing that varies between cables is the connector. Some cheap cables can break, so it's better to go with cables that are known to be high quality. If you decide to buy online, this is the one I bought over 2 years ago that is great quality, I can't imagine it ever breaking.

I bought the HDMI cable for the audio adapter dongle. It is a high quality HDMI cable, the connectors are gold plated and the plastic seal has a soft quality feel to it. Apart from that it does exactly the same job as a $2 one.

There are actually differences between cables believe it or not. They aren't 'all the same'. Though at the distance that you most likely require, you wouldn't notice the difference between a good one and a bad one so a cheap one is fine. _________________

Theres also diff between standards 1.3 and 1.4. Not that it matters for xbox, but for 1.4, it supports 3d playback as well as having an ethernet channel.
Which brings me to my question, Appel, do you do 1.4 standard hdmi cables as well? _________________

Yeah, all my cables are 1.4 atm.
1.4 is better for future proofing a cable, as it has 3D and Ethernet. Though not everything uses 3D and nothing really uses the Ethernet as of yet.
I'm running lowish, but i'm in talks with China from this week about getting a large order put through. _________________

1.4 supports 2k x 4k, which will come in handy soon. _________________

What's 2k and 4k? Higher resolution?

Yep, horizontal resolution. The HDMI 1.4 standard supports a max of 4K x 2K.
4K can be either 3840pixels (like Quad Full HD) or 4096pixels. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

What are the actual differences between a 1.3 cable and a 1.4 cable? More wires? Better shielding? Is there a spec for the cables somewhere? _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

^ Wikipedia says High Speed HDMI 1.3 cables can support all HDMI 1.4 features except for the HDMI Ethernet Channel. Edit: wow did it really take me 30+ mins to get that far?
I can't find a decent wiring diagram, but some of the reserved pins are now used to support the ethernet channel. I guess 1.3 cables probably have the pins but not wiring between them. _________________

you should have gotten your cable already. Well, I've also been into this dilemma a year ago and unfortunately, I got to choose a cheaper cable. 2 months after, I had to buy a new one.
