i feel almost the opposite.
i enjoy my characters, but i felt (and feel, despite having not played in over 6 months) more connected to my World of Warcraft main character. i think it's because there's very little leveling choice in the game. there's multiple planets per level bracket, but there's not multiple paths through the galaxy, so it's actually rather linear.
i don't have the sense of exploration that i had with my Gnome Mage.
|
Fair enough, the linear levelling areas is something that botehrs me too, but you also have to think how long you played your character in WoW.
For me I played WoW for 4.5 to 5 years. And even though I was attached to my character, it was just a toon to hang armour on. My character in EQ2 was different, possibly because that was my first MMO, but also it allowed you to create your own backstory and post it on your character sheet for anyone in game to read.
But TOR trumps that for me.
Also, I'm pretty certain my Sorcerer is gay.

yeah i played WoW since launch, made my main about 6 months after that.
and i guess you're right in some ways - i didn't RP my character or anything, but a mate and I did get pretty involved in the server's forum, and became quite famous there for trolling people. i guess by way of explanation - my gnome mage was invited to the ingame wedding of 2 horde-side trolls, held in Undercity, and i attended.
(it wasn't a real wedding - was just to troll people.)
it got to the point where most horde wouldn't attack me in the world, despite being a PVP server. or if they did, quite often they'd stop after a couple of hits and apologise. it even got to the point where they might see another alliance near me, and they'd emote at me for my permission to attack.
(i'm not a good PVP player. i've had some laughs PVPing, but i'm really not that good.)
so yeah, the random sht like that. the stories i have with RL mates who played with me. i've a little bit of that in TOR, but it doesn't feel as free-form as WoW was.
admittedly, when all the cross-realm stuff came into the game, this was pretty much killed. (one major downside, imo, was the death of the sense of community.)
so yeah - i still feel attached to my pink-haired gnome mage. it was rolled as a joke because we thought we might only play for another few months, but i ended up playing her for around 6 and a half years as my main... so i guess things worked out. (especially for Blizzard ) _________________

1st Flashpoint done. LOVE.
Man, this is why I didn't like WoW. It was just a game where you got better stuff. This game at least has the awesome stories and choices. So good!

Decided to screw finishing Rift first, I can play two MMO's at once! Bought it from G2Play rather than cdkeysdirect so that I could get it sooner, but it got a price drop pretty much straight after I bought it lulz. Looking forward to playing it though, I guess I'll be going onto Swiftsure.

This is something I don't think I'll be doing with TOR. WoW for me was also supposed to be a stop gap, something to play on the house emac before my PC arrived from England and I could go back tp 'proper' games, but 5 years later and I was still playing.
So far I haven't had that feeling of epicness that I had with WoW, or EQ2 for that matter. I have a mate whose been lvl fifty since the first week and he claims to be in love with what you do at that level, but just that fact that there were max levels running around in a few weels was a bad sign.
I'll be able ot judge better when I'm up there, but as it stands now I don't see myself playing this game for years, just enjoying it while I do.

agreed with that. i'm taking my time levelling (although it's not always by design when i don't play...) and really intend only to play casually - i am playing it as a single player game with the odd co-op session, rather than a replacement for WoW. (i'm not looking for another MMO. i'm pretty over them now.)
which i suppose also goes some way to explaining the lack of connection to my characters in this. _________________

So I'm downloading at around 90-110 kb/s. Is this normal? Because I don't want to have to wait around 60+ hours to download this.
A few restarts later and it's all good! So looking forward to this, an MMO with an actual story? It's gonna be so good.

Wanted this character to be a completely good character. Made two bad decisions, and ended up with a dark Jedi lightsaber, which is kind of annoying. Love this game though! Best MMO that I have ever played, and for once I actually want to make an alt. I'll definitely be keeping my subscription going.

if you accidently make a bad decision, you can usually hit esc to end the conversation and restart it. for one quest I even abandoned it, making me restart the whole quest line

Ah, well it's too late now *SPOILERS HERE ON IN*
It was the Jedi Knight quest where you find the guy who was leading the, uh, aliens who are bad (I'm terrible with names). I had a good option to knock him out, a bad option to kill him, and a middle one that was talking. I chose the talking one, and he gave me tips on how to create a better lightsaber. Turns out that was bad too. Then when I made the lightsaber, I decided to make use of the tips he gave me, which created a dark Jedi lightsaber. Ah well, I'm sure I can buy a different lightsaber eventually.

So a massive group of Imps were camping outside the republic base to farm valor when suddenly we all ran in past the turrets swarming the inside of their base. Many good times were had. Unfortunately some missed out and froze due to the sheer number of players and abilities being cast.

Insanely low quality stream I took towards the end of the intrusion: http://www.twitch.tv/pr3d4t0r_34/b/305878782 _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1

Goddammit! My updater crashed and I have to d'load 10g of the original client, plus the updates. This is the second time this has happened, the first I thought it was a super big patch (a few pages back), and I'm fairly pissed.

This happened to me to, and it's happened before.
But the way i got around it was by uninstalling it and reinstalling from the disk. When doing this i only need like 300mb of updates after that. _________________

What i have also done is after reinstalling and updating, i have copied the install directory to another location so that if it does stuff up another patch install i can just copy the backup back in and try again rather than go through the whole install process again. _________________

Good idea, I've been thinking of doing the same thing myself, just in case. Haven't had any major problems really, minor niggling issues graphically (is it me, or is everything all shiny now with the antialliasing added?)
Starting to make progress towards finishing Alderaan, arguably the most frustrating yet most enjoyable sequence of events so far, largely because of the setting.

What's everyone upset about? Being only lvl 26 I don't think I see enough to get upset over. I do like how things finally stack in your inventory/cargo hold now though... _________________

Apparently there is a huge PVP glitch that makes PVP basically unplayable or something. But Bioware are fixing it up soon (maybe even with the maintenance now/tonight?), but of course, people being people, they still massively bitch over it.

A bug got through in the lvl 50 open PvP area of Ilum that basically allowed a numerically stronger faction to farm valour by camping the spawn area.
They should have been killed instantly entering the area, apparently.
Anyway, there's no louder rage than nerd rage and those crying are either threatening to drop their sub if the valour isn't wiped from those who got it, and those who did get threatening to leave if it's taken away.
It's all very high school.

A bug didn't get through. You've always been able to swarm the defence towers, theres a video of people doing it before the patch just coz they can. The reason its a problem now is because every 50 on the server wants to get the daily done and all the repubs were too scared to leave their base so everyone slowly got closer and closer while the repubs were getting tonnes of valor aoeing their entrance. However people got sick of dying in the choke so everyone stormed their base. _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1
