You mean their DNS right? I think they were handled by GoDaddy (along with many other companies) who initially supported SOPA. Wikipedia moved their DNS hosting elsewhere (along with many other companies) and eventually GoDaddy capitulated and withdrew support icon_biggrin.gif

I just came across this keynote speech, given by the Internet's Most Awesome Person, Cory Doctorow, at the most recent Chaos Computer Club meeting.

He talks about how this war, against what my friend likes to call "Big Poetry", is just the beginning, because they're just the first groups who want to stop us from running software on our computers that they don't like.

^great speech

The wikipedia shutdown in getting a fair bit of attention, there was even a slot about it on the ABC news this morning. Although, it was more a story about how popular wikipedia was not about what they are protesting.

Yes because we all know the MPAA isn't abusing their power to get SOPA and PIPA pushed through, right? icon_rolleyes.gif

Kind of like what James Franklin did back in 1912 when the printing presses shut down for a week? And he made his own newspapers just printing absolute bullshit?

could also just use answers .com or other sites that simply copypsata from wiki that said the mobile site also redirected im not srue if its the fact that my net is capped but i simply stopped the page from loading to avoid the redirect , that and i would think simply using the cache from a few days ago would suffice.

I think it's a pretty big stuff up to leave the mobile site up... kinda, umm, goes against the whole point they are trying to make.

even the standerd wikipages work - the indexing and what not - pretty sure its all still working its just that if you let the page load fully it will redirect

Taking it down would break a lot third-party Wikipedia apps, though.

they're doing the blackout through a java ap when you go to the page that redirects you.

So far 4chan is blacking out all text on their site, SMBC is down, Nedroid has a censored comic, Reddit is still up and Fark are promising to 'go white in support of SOPA' so I have no idea what's happening with that.

All in all, looks like tomorow is going to be a boring arse day at work for me.

ESA (Who run E3) are backing SOPA, many big names such as Screwattack wont be covering E3 this year unless the ESA remove there support for SOPA.
