...and then they took so much acid they turned into something completely different.
2 awesome solos in that track. Svitek is a demon. _________________ I'd be apathetic, but I can't be arsed.

i took the plunge, well first of all, wankily long, not a fan of the singing, but dude is a pretty mad gitar player....i would probably like it more if not for the singing, but i listen to cookie monster so what do i know....7/10
okay, killing joke, one of my favourite bands of all time, they formed in 1978, they influenced nearly every metal band on earth, this song is from 2006 and i don't dislike any of their albums from the early 80's to now. They have nothing left to prove but they still push themselves. I got into these guys from listening to prong.
til "In October 2006, it was announced that Coleman had been chosen as Composer in Residence for the European Union. As Composer in Residence he will be commissioned to write music for special occasions"
coleman is the singer.

<3 Orbital. Someone else can rate it though, preferably someone that's not listened to them before. _________________

God, I don't know why people like Die Antwoord. I don't know if it's the outlandishness that makes them so attractive, but to be perfectly honest I am embarrassed that my country produced Die Antwoord. I guess because of that the first thought that comes to mind at just the mention of Die Antwoord is "garbage". I won't vote on it though, just thought I'd share my opinion since I was there when they exploded on the South African local scene, and that was only because of the zef attitude . I might be a little biased _________________

I will tell you why i like them, i think they are fucking genius...it is satirical performance art, they are both playing those characters. I find it more of a commentary on zef, chav, bogan or whatever label the poorer class has at the time.
It started as comedy and the more it grew the more legitimate it became.
Plus they had the integrity to tell interscope to shove their record contract (whether this is part of the act i am not sure) for not having creative freedom over it, particularly the last part of the fok julle naaiers track where dj hi tek goes on a homophobic rant, which is essentially quoting mike tyson at a press conference where someone said to put him in a straight jacket. (personally i think it was part of the act, which is about the same as any other artist like say madonna creating faux uproar about something "controversial" to sell more records)
Dj hi tek also does not exist unless he is needed for public appearances and has been at least 5 different people that i have counted.
I think the "zef side" video gives away more of where they are coming from than the later songs.
I find it equal parts hilarious and genius and it is great commentary on class social structure and the music industry in general.
I really should despise them as i normally would, but i fucking love it.
Also, dat ass. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

I fucking love Die Antwoord for the reasons above, and also because I'm strangely attracted to Yo-Landi Visser. _________________

Also Diplo from Major Lazer cameos in Evil Boy, which makes me like them even more. _________________

To each their own I guess But I disagree in that it is a satirical act. It might well be, but my experience and the circumstances of their rise to fame in South Africa leads me to believe otherwise. I don't think they come from poverty, and I don't think any social circumstance in SA is as bad as depicted in the work they do. Maybe it is caricatured, maybe not. My opinion, however, is that its more of a fashion statement or attitude actually assumed outside of the job, and maybe even before it, seeing as the zef culture itself exploded before Die Antwoord with Jack Parow. I guess that "culture" is something I just can't stand, like I can't stand skinny jeans . But I can definitely see the attraction to other people. It's dangerous, funny, outlandish, different, etc. While I have listened to some Die Antwoord songs purely because admittedly, some are hilarious, but I'm just not sure if the quality of music is comparable to other top acts. Good to have discussion though _________________
