You see i agree with Jarrod here. I hate seeing dlc come out say 1 month after the game comes out. You pay $100 for the game already and then 400 to 600 MPS later you see a cool dlc with the size of 108.00KB showing up......they sell you a disc WITH the content but you have to pay MORE to use the content when you already have the data!!??

I have no problem paying for 120MB of new content because i equate that to made "AFTER" the game was released.

Just a pet peeve.

^And this is why I haven't purchased DLCs yet. Still need to go through Mass Effect 2 ones but from what I read, many are just average, still divided on whether to get it or not, worry it will have some effect on the

DLCs should be free (like back in the good old days where a patch may slip in new official contents) or as a collective (like expansions after a certain period of time).

Bioware is one of more annoying studios when it comes to DLC. Both DA and ME DLC has been very underwhelming (and overpriced for 30 min-1hr romps).

...And yet. Dragon Age: Awakenings. I can't fault them for an amazing expansion. Remember those? What PC games uses to have to expand their games instead of little breadcrumbs at $15 a piece?

I'll probably still get one of the collector editions for the sake of having one, but I'm pretty sure I'll live with exclusive gear that will probably be useless after the 2nd mission.

ALSO FIX ADEPTS ON THE HARDEST DIFFICULTY. KTHNXBAI.

Was pretty excited for the story in 2 but the ending left me not wanting more. I hope 3 has an amazing story.

Honestly I loved the DLC from ME 2, the missions were creative and fun, the storys they told were great, I ignored most of the weapons and costume packs but the acutal missions you got like lair and kasumi etc were great.

Their Omni Blade edition

Comes with a "MetalPAK"
In game Carbine Rifle and....
an inflatable Omniblade

However, if you’re one of two different sub-sets of gamers, one of the other options may be for you.

First up, there’s the story option. Here you spend less time in combat and it’s more difficult to be killed. This option focuses on the story, the choices and the lore more than the combat or game mechanics aspects. Conversely, you have action mode. This mode mixes your morality so you’re more neutral (gives you a mixture of renegade and paragon choices), and does all choices automatically. This option focuses more on the combat and game mechanics over the story and is for people who just basically want to play a typical shooter.

While I will leave my opinion on these new aspects of Mass Effect 3 out of this new piece, it is quite interesting how the different sub-sets of gamers can affect the way a developer produces a game – for better or for worse.

Casey Hudson, from BioWare, told Game Informer in the same article that this news appeared in:

"You have to make a game with a certain design before you realize that there are different player types. One of the surprising pieces of feedback was for some players, it’s not that they don’t like the story. They love story. In fact, the story is so important to them that they feel the story choices are intimidating.

So all these settings do is that they set some of the options on the option screen before you’ve played it and know what those options mean. Once you get in and start playing, you can change things."


This is a pretty interesting idea! I could definitely see myself using story mode for my first playthrough.

Of all the ME2 DLC I thought those two you mentioned, LotSB and Kasumi were the best.

As for the three options, I'll stick with the traditional route or 'roleplaying option'. I quite like the idea actually of choosing which of the three paths you want to take.

Unless there are key parts of the story they leave out you gotta play the roleplaying option. If you're a big ME fan you need both sides to the game to get the full experience.

Seems pretty straight forward in choices. Story mode equates to a lower difficulty and easier combat. Action modes doesn't interrupt the cutscenes with dialogue and action choices, and instead just plays it out as if the whole this was pre-recorded.

Given neither should, in theory, impact the overall design of the game in a negative way, and instead just give players choices, then I'm all for it. Choice is good, especially if it helps more people tailor the game for their most enjoyment.

I'll be picking roleplaying, because the shooting in Mass Effect is already simple and easy enough to not be a burden, but still quite fun by its own merits (and I am a long time shooter fan), and I like picking dialogue choices, so I cant miss those. Roleplaying mode is how the game will be designed for the most robust experience, and I must have it.

According to Xbox World Magazine, planet probing is gone for good, and replaced with 'Search and Rescue' style missions, where you look for survivors for materials or something.

I want to hear more about this because anything other than probing is good. BioWare made the really absurd blunder with probing by making the player engage in a bare bones, uninvolved mini game that had no learning or skill curve. There was no challenge, no goal, and no function beyond click, click, drag, click. Definitively grinding that to me is a good example of really bad game design. Games should be about involving the player in actions. Even if its a really simple mini game the player needs to be stimulated and challenged. Probing was work with no skill, like pressing a button or pulling a lever over and over. Games should be more than that, and those tasks should be automated.

As empty and barren as the planet missions in Mass Effect were (and the supposed difficulty of controlling the Mako on the 360. It was easy on PC, so I wont question that), they at least put demand on the player to interact with the game and apply skill. You had to explore, engage in conflict, and make use of the mechanics that were used in every other level. Some people didn't like them because of how empty the terrain was. I actually liked them for that reason (I won't go into that now), but I can see the criticism for blandness. But again, at least they were involved, and you had to try to accomplish something. You had objectives and you put your skills towards them.

Ideally Mass Effect 3 would include big open planets to explore, because I think the potential for awesome gameplay is still there, but we already know vehicles are a no go again. So hopefully these search and rescue missions are at least like the Mass Effect 2 side quests, in that you're on your feet, exploring and shooting stuff, and not just mashing buttons on a floating sphere.

I seriously don't understand the hate for Origin. It works fine for me. It is always in the background and doesn't effect my computer at all, and when I want to play Battlefield 3, I just double click on the desktop icon and the Battlelog opens. Same with Crysis 2.

Origin is a stupid, pointless thing that exists only because EA thinks Steam isn't good enough for them (it is).

I already have Steam, and it already has all the PC games I could want on it. Why would I want Origin?

I'll be buying the 360 version anyway, so that I can continue my Sheppard's journey. I started playing the series on 360, and will finish playing the series on 360. It's a great reason to dust off my console.

I'm the same with ads, started with the 360 version, will finish with the 360 version.

Just finished with the Lair of the Shadow Broker and I loved it after I was told by Vervain to go play it icon_smile.gif . Glad I read and finished the first set of comics (I was a tight-arse and got the digital comics instead. On the plus side, it didn't fall victim to my book wreaking handbag) a while ago so I understood the events leading up to the DLC.

Having such a busy life lately, I'm doing 1 DLC a week. Next one coming up with be... *drum rolls* "Kasumi - Stolen Memory DLC"!

It isn't, Steam will only let you sell DLC through their store, and EA want to sell it through their in-game store, so Steam don't get the cut. Understandable really, isn't it?

Kingdoms of Amalur demo is out. To get the Mass Effect 3 unlocks you need to boot it up, and then 'finish' it, and by 'finish' I mean play out the 40 minute demo limit. At the start a pop-up will tell you about the first gear, and just before the demo quits you'll get a second pop-up about the other.

Mass Effect 3 demo is currently slated for the 14th of February on XBL in the US, so I assume about the same here for us. Not sure what date it will be for other platforms.

Here's a Kinect trailer showing off voice commands that shouldn't need Kinect but for some reason do.

Posted in the PC screenshot thread, posting here as well. Preparing for my ME2 playthrough, I got a bunch of awesome texture packs for the characters. Upgrades BioWare's "my first textures" to "made for PC". Looks hot.

And by better they mean gimmicky, unresponsive and overpriced.

Demo has been formally announced. Single + multiple on the 14th, all platforms. Single player is the opening of the game, probably the same as the press preview that Microsoft accidentally flipped the switch for a month or so back.

The co-op portion of the demo will be available on the same day for early access folk (BF3 online pass, and some promotion BioWare will be doing), and then on the 17th for the rest of us.

PC specs for the demo are out. They're almost point for point identical to Mass Effect 2. Only difference is the GPU which is still an old one. CPU is even 200mhz less in recommended, so um...yay? Disappointed that once again BioWare seems to have no interest in sprucing up the PC version, but ME2 runs at 60fps, native 1080p with 4xMSAA for me, so I'm not complaining...much.
