I've played a fair amount of MMOs, but I have to say I've never felt so connected with my character as I do with my Trooper. I reckon it's down to the choices in dialogue, their consequences and also how it affects the relationship with your companion.
My Trooper is a goody goody two shoes who will do the 'right thing' unless it means hurting a defencless person. Bascially Captain Carrot, for those who read Discworld.
Where as my Sith Inquisitor is basically a good person who is too much of a free spirit for the light side, and enjoys torturing Zek Tah (or whatever his companion's name is) into doing good things just because he can, showing his sense of humour.
They feel almost like real people to me, and all I've done is play as I would normally.

if you're not fussy with digital download, you can try g2play. Currently its sitting at about 65.50 but the prices have fluctuated quite a bit (I picked it up a bit before christmas at $58 from them).
They send you a key, you add it to your origin account which redirects you to the star wars site and you go from there. Be aware it is a 20-25gb download, so if you're on a small cap, that could own your months data. |
AWESOME! I was hoping for digital copy. Thanks so much (you used it as well hey), I'm going this option. I have a 500 gig cap and I barely used 40 gig a month, so it will be all good _________________ Shin J Leon.

OH, gametraders have it in stock, $89. Might be a better option then waiting a few days to download 25 gig. _________________ Shin J Leon.

I bought a boxed copy from Sydney and I only had to download about 300mb of patches or so when I installed it yesterday, so I doubt it. I certainly hope this one isn't big as well, my monthly quota is 10gig

Can +1 to g2play.net
That's where I got mine. Took maybe 5 hours to get the cd key in the email.
And was impressed with the download speed from EA too, the full game was done overnight, so maybe 7, 8 hours. _________________ My YouTube game videos!

^ I got it within about 15min, but because I got it pretty much day 1 of release, the servers were getting smashed, and as such had to keep my pc on about 2 days straight to get it all downloaded. Friends have told me their ones only took a few hours.
I suppose on the upside physical copies you can chuck on the shelf and have it all nice looking and the such

I feel the same way. I tried going full bad ass but there are just some decisions that just make you seem like such an epic douchebag. So I've decided to actually just sit at neutral, like a real bounty hunter.
That being said, when I play my inquis on swiftsure (my merc is on dark reaper), I have no problem with using force lightning to interrogate the prisoner in the first few levels and the such. _________________

I keep getting massive lag spikes and quite often it times out with a 9000 error code. Looking in the forums it seems pretty common in for those in the states.
Anybody experiencing this? Driving me nuts. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Nope, I think in the 24 hours I've been playing I've disconnected once, and that was because I was using up my bandwidth to watch youtube videos (I'm on wireless in a heavily congested area).

k, my net has been flakey today as well (thanks Optus).
I think somethign is wrong with the game though as there are lots and lots of posts reporting similar problems in the offical forums.
Enjoying the game so far, is much nicer then WoW. I like having a strong story and choices. Makes things much more fun. _________________ Shin J Leon.

What server are you playing on, LeonJ?
I was getting 9000 code errors the other day but thats because my net was dropping out every 5 minutes. Usually I have no problems playing from 8am to 11pm every night. _________________

i feel almost the opposite.
i enjoy my characters, but i felt (and feel, despite having not played in over 6 months) more connected to my World of Warcraft main character. i think it's because there's very little leveling choice in the game. there's multiple planets per level bracket, but there's not multiple paths through the galaxy, so it's actually rather linear.
i don't have the sense of exploration that i had with my Gnome Mage.
i'm playing one of my Jedi as very light. there have actually been occasions where i'd personally quite happily choose a different dialogue option, but for the sake of the game, i've chosen the more light choice.
and my other Jedi is full dark. which has been very amusing to play. _________________

Is there some form of galaxy map?
I got to the first star-ship with a billion shops and felt completely lost. Companion skills? I don't even know how to turn off my companion (keeps getting int he way!).
I guess the shops with the backet are auction houses?
Went into a PvP area, not idea what was going on. I just did some stuff with lvl 50s.
I guess these games are always like this but it's gone from very linear and small world to massive amount of options and I feel lost. I went to the next section instead and continued on the story path. _________________ Shin J Leon.

The intergalactic fleet is actually kind of a... one stop shop. You can buy items, get your crew skills, buy your speeder, trade in your commendations (little medals for doing various quests which in turn give access to some pretty nice gear), and your respective class trainer will also be available there. When you reach slightly higher level, (16-17ish) you can access the 2nd flashpoint after the black talon introductory one. There are others as you level up as well.
Companion skills are where you can choose 3 skills, and have your companion/companions do various jobs for you while they are not in battle which can be anything from finding raw materials for you to crafting awesome new hilts for lightsabers etc. Be sure to choose companion skills that compliment each other.
Eg. My mercenary has a main crafting skill of cybertech (I make mods, ear pieces, grenades and enhancements). To compliment that, Ive taken underworld trading and scavenging. Apparently if you level them up far enough it actually pays off and you get some items you can throw into the auction house or just sell.
The auction house is actually called the galactic trade market, I've still yet to find it but if you go to your map, filter by galactic trade market kisosk you should be able to find one on the fleet and some main planets. Initial criticisms of this market say the UI is terrible and is nowhere as good as WoW's auction house. (well of course, WOW has been out since year dot. )
For now, I would suggest just looking at your quest log and see what is listed under class log (your next destination is probably Dromund Kaas followed by Nar Shaadaar). You will not have the option to fly to whatever planet yet till you're a lot further into your story. Then you can see the planets available. _________________

Man I just got back from my overseas trip and picked up my collectors edition.
Bought a whole bunch new PC parts, so gotta install all them first and then I'm so going to play this game! Loved the beta, but poor timing and having to be overseas, has kept me away from this game.
Does anyone know if you can keep your old nick from the beta?
Leon! Honey! Which server! Swiftsure? Darkreaper?
