It seriously does look like the most confusing thing ever. What an inaccessible city. _________________

If you're planning to stick to the city centre and Disneyland you might be okay. Anywhere slightly out of the way you will likely have more trouble :'D _________________

LA is a sh!thole. I spent 4-5 days there and pretty much hated most of it. Its boring and hollywood bouvelvard is stupid and the beaches are nasty. Santa Monica was okay but the rest of it is ... shit. I'd skip it. Go to chicago - that was great.
Las Vegas is also great. As was San Fran. _________________

I've already been, wouldn't mind going for a few days to visit Hollywood/the relatives but yeah, Chicago and stuff would be sweet, but the flights would probably add up
San Fran is sweet too but my relatives up there are second cousins, would be weird
and my relatives live NEAR Anaheim, but i'd want to go to Hollywood and the city centre, so ehh _________________

What does everyone recommend doing for cash, I'm heading to England n such soon for a month. I'm with Westpac and get flogged by their foreign transaction fees, I'm sure they would have a partner bank whose ATMs I could use, but is there a better way? I don't fancy taking a heap of cash. _________________

I used American Express Foreign Exchange in a Westpac branch when I went to Hong Kong last year since they had the best fees and second best rates when I was looking around. It was $8 per transaction and within a certain period, this fee covers buy back (not sure if it applies now). _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

I'm with Westpac too, and yeah, they have affiliated banks. I can't remember which bank it is in the UK (if you go in to the branch you can get a card telling you what banks they're affiliated with in which countries), but I think the charge was like $5 per transaction if you use the affiliated banks ATM's (beginning of 2010). If you use the non-affiliated ATM's, there's a percentage (something like 2-3%) on top of that, and likely a charge from the other bank as well. Personally, I would withdraw large amounts out at once, like about 200 pounds/ euros, and then only keeping a small amount of that in my actual wallet. The rest I put in a hidden travellers pack. I'm not sure if there's a better way, but I certainly couldn't find one.

Ah, well it looks like I'll be going to Europe during June/July - and hence during the Peak periods.
How much are the trains between countries? _________________

may i recommend www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de for intra-germany and a bit of border towns in austria/swiss/fra (gives you their mobile # if you end up getting a euro sim)
and www.mitfahrzentrale.de for longer international trips _________________

If at all possible get a local to take you on the highways in Luxemburg. They have one lane in each direction, and a single, communal overtaking lane. I've never felt so alive than surviving one of the those trips.

Avoid Londond like the plague. It's full of drunk Aussies. You may as well be in Melbourne and paying twice as much for everything.
