Very true. Unless it was your mum, sister, wife or someone else you cared for. You would at least hope someone could do something.
At that point I wasn't chasing the guy for the bag, he had dropped it, I was chasing the guy to catch him. Obviously we approach things differently. But, I thought about that (being stabbed etc), and it was one of the reasons why I stopped. That and the police were apparently right around the corner...

Nor am I trying to be either of them, but I won't stand idle when I can actually do something and help. I know the risks and I made the choice to help the lady, and all the other times I've chased someone down. Knock on wood, nothing bad has happened to me yet.
All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

True that guvna. The runner was no threat at all and reads like he bailed the handbag after the alley so go anything past "reasonable" to detain him (break his leg while pulling him off the roof) and ur ass is grass
this is coming from someone who hasn't had more than 25$ in their wallet for the past 18 months though.. what sort of expensive ipad ipod iphone shit do people carry in their handbags these days _________________

It's not just the phone or money, the most important thing is identification. It's becoming more common for thieves to use such information later to impersonate the person or to rob their residence further down the track. As I said to the lady, you can replace the bag, the phone, etc, just make sure you cancel all your cards and up the security at your home.

ether that or none of us are " fully mobile/ body able "
that being said not a smile or what ticks me off but i throught id note , i was walking thro queens park today to get some forms filled out for an upcoming project anyway on the way back i decided to turn around and go to the keiosk to get something to eat anyway as i was walking along the foot path kinda hunched over a police car pulled over i kept walking - turned around and srue enough they called out to me so i walked over this kwiw and a lady err "greeted me " and then asked for some ID , address- the works so i throught ok is it my unflattering appearance ( in this heat) do i look like someone ? do i look suspicious? so after handing all that over i asked him since he was the one asking all the questions his exzact repsosne was somthing like " because " we are patrolling or somthing or rather i kinda felt like giving him a hard time and asked insistnilty and he aulleded to " people targeting Innocent " yea i felt like asking him to define "innocent" i did how ever say if you " ask for that much information " expect to give that much - he kinda went blank and nodded - you could tell hes not used to being confronted , before i walked on and told him i was getting some to eat he remarked twice " your meeting somone arnt you " im like no i just want somthing to eat
but yea as you can tell i have never been ided on the street like that. _________________

Fuck me, when I had long hair they would do this to me every other week. It'd give me the shits, but I would just answer their questions nicely and they would go away. They were stereotyping me as a hippie stoner because that's how they work. _________________ I'd be apathetic, but I can't be arsed.

Is it against the law to just say no? I mean you weren't doing anything wrong and I'm sure being hunched over as you walk isn't against the law lol. The real criminals are getting away as they question innocent people .
I got stopped in an airport once for some bomb detection and they scanned my clothes with some device. I asked why and she said I looked suspicious... I was a 21 year old Caucasian with an Australian accent in Sydney airport walking to the gate... how's that even remotely suspicious..?

Cyph, that sucks mate.
| Cyph wrote: | | I'm actually quite disappointed yet empathic at the police. It took them 30 minutes to arrive after I first made the call even though their station is less than 30 seconds away. Furthermore, the police that did arrive came from Maddington, which is maybe 10 to 15 minutes away. Apparently all the police were tied up because it was a busy night. Now, correct me if I’m wrong or simply underestimating their workload, but I didn’t expect a regular Monday evening to be a ‘busy night’. If that’s the case, perhaps we need more police on the beat… and less behind speed cameras. |
I keep trying to tell you about this...

The only guy who did was the taxi driver who lived in the first set of units I chased the guy into (and he stayed the entire time and offered to help the girl), everyone else just peeped through their curtains. In fact, one guy who seemed to be practicing kick boxing didn't do anything either. Real nice work macho man, you go scare that punching bag. But then again, I guess that's society these days. |
In Melbourne you get shot and killed for trying to help people... I'm with Benza on this one. _________________

Yeah. Being ohkay and needing a new car is a lot better than being injured!
That was a horrible feeling. My first accident too so it was even scarier _________________

Perhaps you're right theory, but still, I don't regret helping someone. But then again, perhaps I should stop thinking the 'burbs in Perth are different to Melbourne or Sydney or any where else for that matter.
But honestly, I don't regret it for a second. I've been punched helping a lady from a violent partner, the guy got his dues from the police and the lady didn't get belted. And I'll do it again. Everyone has their background, they've experienced things in life that they wouldn't want happen to others and I promised myself that I would never stand by and watch. And for whatever reason, if the day comes that I can't be a regular citizen and help out, I'll become a police officer. And you'll likely then see me behind a speed camera

lol on my id i have long hair and the bloke remarked " that was a long time ago " he was kinda shocked - it was less then 4 years ago mind you i have short hair now - they probbly throught i was one of those fools that carry paint thinner with them every were as i was carry a small bag and wearing a sort of daggy shirt since i knew i would be sweating and indeed i was sweating right thro the shirt so yea maybe they had me as a stoner of some sort or just " trouble" as they seemed to think i was meeting someone -
i cant say i mind about any of this but like i said if im going to be asked that many questions then i do feel the need to pressure the person about it. _________________

COCKROACHES. Fuck I hate cockroaches.
Had two in the past week crawl onto my foot while I'm on my computer, one doing so tonight (both were also large). My PC and desk is right by my balcony door and though I have a flyscreen, the fuckers still somehow crawl under and decide that venturing over my foot is fun.
Two in less than a week basically means war mode. Soapy water sprayed on the bottom edges of the fly screen door, permethrin spray at the ready and I'm keen to also pick up some Boric Acid so I can gift it to them. You know, like food.
Of death.
Fucking cockroaches. _________________
