Isn't that the new Makoto Shinkai show?

Has he learned what pacing is, yet?

i think he has icon_cool.gif the film as long about an hour and 56 mins but i gotta say it kept going didn't really stop and follows a number of cool tropes so i think its worth seeing and the animation is top notch icon_smile.gif

That's good.

I always had a problem with his other stuff because it either ended too abruptly (Voices of a Distant Star) or dragged on way too long (5CM Per Second).

Next question: How nice are the lens flares this time around?

The animation is stunning. I've haven't watched it yet (only skimmed through it) but it really looks beautiful. I've only seen Voices of a Distant Star and didn't really like it but maybe this will be more enjoyable.

For those wondering how Bandai's decision will affect local releases from Madman:

Sly on the Madboards wrote:
Our titles will not be affected by this announcement from Bandai. Pretty much all of their releases that we also have were licensed via Japan directly with only a few exceptions. They also stated that they will continue to manage rights going forward so there will be no problems with existing contracts.

As for titles in the future like GOSICK and NICHIJOU, we will wait and see if another company will be releasing them. If we get word back that there most likely won't be a dub, we will go ahead and release subtitled DVDs as soon as possible.

Gundam Unicorn remains unaffected as we licensed this from Sunrise direct.

TL;DR - nothing to see here folks everything is normal. Move along.

I liked "Quickening" more but that one does fit in more with the rest.

What shows are you guys watching this season? There's nothing that's really taken my interest apart from the second season of Amagami, Nisemonogatari and Zero no Tsukaima F. None of which I can watch because I haven't seen the previous seasons of them yet. Brave 10 looks like it might be good...

the newer chart is just a cut down version starting in April

inu X boku SS : ah yea umm iv never watched a show like this and im not sure i want to

monureu pirates ? i should watch the first episode i don't care for what is clearly "skirts" in space but the supporting cast look to be rather interesting so i may just dip in on this

Hrm...some of those anime I've already started watching here on tv.

Mouretsu Pirates - watched the first episode, looks interesting I think I'll keep watching this. sci-fi with a character that looks intriguing.

Amagami SS+ - well I'm a fan of Amagami SS, so I'll just keep watching the next season, see how Tachibana progresses with the multitude of girls. It's interesting to see that some of the girl's arc has a future ending so I guess this will show what happens between.

Nisemonogatari - the continuation of bakemonogatari, so I'll watch this even though the focus apparently isn't on Hitagi, but there's enough interesting characters for me to keep watching it.

Shin no Tennis-ouji-sama - I dunno why I'm watching this, I guess kinda did like Prince of Tennis and I'm reading the manga a bit (Ryoga Echizen has made his appearance so this makes things interesting).

Recorder to Randoseru - I guess I gotta watch some kind of weird ass comedy/drama to mix things up a bit, this is kinda interesting. I like the two main characters so I'll keep watching it.

Kill Me Baby - I love the manga, it's bloody hilarious, I've watched the first episode and the anime is just as funny. This will be my pick for the season I look forward to the most. The characters are really funny, for those who are interested in this, I would say it's a cross between Azumanga and Nichijou, it's got a lot of slap stick humour.

Looking forward to :

- Brave 10
- Black Rock Shooter
- Another
- High School DxD
- Rinne no Lagrange

Mouretsu Pirates is from the same director as Nadesico so I'm looking forward to that. I adored Bakemonogatari so Nisemonogatari is high on my list(first ep was pretty good) and I'll be watching Black Rock Shooter too.
There'll probably be more but those are the ones I plan on watching thus far.

Jesus these lists are depressing.
Lets see
Lupin, schoolgirl, teen robots, school sport, creepy pedophile anime, school sport, school commedy, school horror, teen robots, pale hair with two different coloured eyes (Also really japan, you're fine with calling your secret services "The S.S." ?) school girls in kimonos, school girl as a pirate, school girl rom com, generic bad arse with an oversized sword, a fucking vocaloid show, pedophile detective show, the most beautifull man in the cosmos, school drama, school rom com (Bonus points for bumbling useless female lead) sex offender the school commedy, teen robots, school girls + Tits, using film grain becuase they thought that's what style is, fuck this shit the television show, and wanna be porn.

Seriously the only one of them that doesn't look generic as all fuck is lupin, and even that's gotten to the point where it's probably going to be a generic lupin story.

Which one of those do you classify Nisemonogatari as? Since it'd be quite a hard show to classify really... And it's hardly what I'd call generic...

school girls in kimonos, that was pretty much the only one I couldn't classify in like half a second of looking at the picture.

Ah I see. Yeah, I would definitely agree that Nisemonogatari(and it's prequel for that matter) is a little risque. But that's hardly the point of the show. However, if you were of course simply judging a book by it's cover I understand where you're coming from.

Honestly what I think is more disturbing that I didn't notice is the movies section, out of 12 movies, half of them are adapted from animes over 10 years old. And another is based on a Canadian game?

That's really gives a depressing outlook of modern anime.

Well it's been a trend over the last few years where most anime series/movies are adaptations of Light Novels/Manga etc.
Personally I'm not fussed about where the idea comes from, as long as the execution is good.
It would be nice to see some more original series made, but I just accept that this content isn't necessarily made for me so I don't really have any right to complain.

it's not so much that they're adaptations of manga etc. Anime movies have always been that. But they're usually whatever the recent good stuff is. I mean most of the seminal anime movies like GITS, or Akira came out during the original runs of the manga. usually like 5 years after the manga started.

Captain Harlock is from the 70's, Beserk is from the 90's (I know it's technicly still ongoing, but the movies are stlil going to be addapting a story from 1991) Gaiking is from the 70's, .hack is ten years old this year. The Father of Bardock movie from DBZ is like 20 years old, Kenshin is like mid 90's. The only things getting movies based on current stuff is fucking K-on and some little kids show.

It just seems like they're basically saying "Whelp, fuck it, nothing worth it happend in the past decade, lets go back further to get anything good"

Bakemonogatari, and I assume Nisemonogatari too, are far from generic. It's one of the more original and different animes I've seen. You could spend twice the amount of time watching the episode just pausing it to actually keep up.

I guess that's probably because the stuff they're adapting may not be conducive to the feature film format... Although they did manage to make the K-On! movie, but that's original content rather than an adaptation.
This year I'm looking forward to the Kizumonogatari movie, as that's a prequel to Bakemonogatari and based on the quick clips seen during Bake should be freaking awesome.
Also is the Steins;Gate movie coming this year? Or is it next?

The dialog(which takes up 80% of the show) is just so hilarious. It's amazing how quickly the 20~ minutes goes when most of it is just talking...

This year. icon_smile.gif As for the new anime season, looks about as good as usual to me. The movies are a bit sucky, but I don't really watch them anyway.

So Studio Ghibli's Arrietty is gonna be released in the cinemas here this week, then I found out that the movie just came out on blu-ray in UK, so I think I'll just order that instead of watching it on the big screen (which I think will be dubbed).
