If that's MW3 make sure you change the renderer or whatever from Extreme to Native, else it renders in a lower resolution and upscales instead...for...some...reason.

Here's some Catwoman.

I need more AA in my Arkham City, but DX11 + PhysX really hurts performances as the DX11 isn't very well optimised, and PhysX is always a pain to run. But the added details are too lovely to pass up, so I dropped the AA down to MSAAx2 to retain performance and keep the game looking great. As usual, SSAO makes a world of difference. Cant wait to boot up Skyrim and try the nVidia SSAO support there.

And, from GAF (and thus not mine), this is when you have some Master Race(tm) super sampling and beasly PCness giving you impeccable IQ.

Just fucking look at that shit. Goddamn.

Yeah it was on Extreme as it defaulted back to it once I updated my drivers. Even without Extreme though it still looks pretty terrible, and the non-scaling in Eyefinity is awesome.

And hooray for more Super Sampling! I use it in pretty much every game I can; makes it look so much better.

I posted these elsewhere, but here's a few shots of Deus Ex: Human Revolution with the ENB mod.

Some great screens the last couple of posts! icon_smile.gif

BTW... what is super-sampling? I don't see it in my Nvidia control panel, or is it an ATI thing?

P.S. Not really up with PC tech talk, just whack everything on max and play icon_wink.gif

Supersampling renders a game at a resolution higher than what you're monitor outputs, and then downscales the image to your native resolution to clean up jaggies. In terms of image quality, its about the best you can get for anti-aliasing, as it takes into account everything and is great for textures, but comes at a huge performance cost.

Think of it like taking a high resolution screenshot and using an image editing program to make the image smaller. By downscaling the image you clean it up, and so supersampling does the same thing in real time.

Ah cool, gotcha.

I guess I couldn't do that, given I game on a 1920x1080 55" TV?

You can if your hardware is up to the task. Supersampling (or SSAA for short) is a custom profile switch that you change in the Catalyst Control Centre or in the NVIDIA control panel. Once you've set it to a game you just load it up and the effect should go active.

It's really about what kind of graphics card you have and what game it is. 90% of my games I can apply Supersampling because I've got the horsepower, but it's very taxing to apply.

You could do it at any resolution, but the higher it goes the more taxing it becomes. You need a super Denny PC if you want to supersample and have playable framerates.

Here's some Arkham City. Everything maxed, tessellation/physx maxed, 4xMSAA, running at 1920x1080, downsampled to 720p. Click for big.

In layman's terms; everything just looks so much sharper. Say there's a tree in the distance, with super-sampling off it may look a bit blurry and undefined but with SS on it looks much clearer and defined.

This is really interesting, because I was trying to find a way to make games play in a higher resolution than my native (1920x1080) and get downsampled, for the sake of taking some nice screenies. But I couldn't find any way to do it.

I always thought SS was an anti-aliasing technique though??? hm. So what you're saying is supersampling sort of "unlocks" higher resolutions than my native? So for example I could turn it on and go into a game and select a Denny resolution rather than my ordinary Joanne resolution and it would just fit it to my screen?

Or am I totally getting this wrong?

Also I can't find anything about it in the Nvidia control panel icon_sad.gif

Supersampling is Anti-Aliasing, that's for sure. But how it works is it grabs your current frame, then basically renders it at a resolution 4 times higher than the one you use, then downsamples it and blends the images together, basically creating an extremely finely detailed image. The higher the Multiplier you do (4xSSAA as an example), the more samples it will take and then downsample. This is why it's very rarely used unless your system is extremely powerful, because it's sending data to the graphic cards frame buffer several times more than normal which causes latency and also a much higher pixel count to render. Witcher 2's Ubersampling is effectively Supersampling; it's Anti-Aliasing on steroids.

Download D3DOverrider Pixie. This will give you some additional AA options and let you customise it depending on games etc. For AMD users you want RadeonPro.

Also, Batman: Arkham City looks FUCKING NUTS in Eyefinity.

Thanks :3 Is it possible with most games? I'm aware my computer probably won't handle it well with anything newish.

You can force it, so it's possible to have it but I can tell you from experience that it literally punches your graphic card in the nuts and proceeds to beat it to death with a rusty pipe. In other words it's very, VERY taxing and with your card and at 1920x1080 you will likely struggle.

With modern games to get SSAA running smoothly you pretty much need Crossfire/SLI systems. It doesn't hurt to try though; that's how you get the best performance vs IQ. I spend hours fiddling with that stuff sometimes because it's interesting and satisfying to get really gorgeous image qual and great performance. So give it a shot, and you might be surprised to find some games performing really well with it.

D3DOverrider wont work for nVidia cards I don't think. All it does is allow you to force tripple buffering and not crap VSync.

For an nVidia card what you want is nVidia Inspector, which is the go-to tool for heavy nVidia driver tweaks for specific games. Its not very user friendly though, and forcing supersampling wont work for all games. UE3 games are particularly weird and require specific settings. I cant enable any AA through the program for Arkham City for example, so I'm stuck using the in-engine AA settings until I find out why.

I used it for Mass Effect 2 though and it added some really nice AA that cleaned up the image. You can also force transparency multi/supersampling to clean up transparent textures (eg: wire fence), and tons of other cool stuff.

Ah yep, my bad! Got mixed with D3DOverrider and NV Inspector. The latter is what you want. I play with all this software too much.

Lovely! Just tried it for Bioshock since I happen to have been playing through it again lately and I can handle 3x3 supersampling just fine.. It really makes a difference when theres been no anti-aliasing at all and suddenly everythings so smooth icon_lol.gif

Nice shots!

I grabbed Sam 3 during the Steam sale and really enjoyed what I initially played. I was pretty underwhelmed by the graphics/engine though. Not really sure what I was expecting, especially with so many enemies on screen at once, but I seem to remember the originals having higher res textures and really wowing me, at least for that time.

I think the originals did have higher res textures in some parts lol. It looks far more impressive in the later levels, the boss during the 4th or 5th level is epic in the literal sense too. It's not that fun in single player but coop is a blast. Unfortunately the friend I was playing with doesn't really like it so I'm stuck with single player again icon_sad.gif.

Been kinda addicted to SWTOR lately... Not for the MMO aspect but the Sudo KOTOR sequel.

Currently on Tatooine which is probably the least detailed planet.
