I would consider 5 hours battery life for a portable to definitely 'suck'. _________________

I'm not fussed about you iPods battery life. The PSP Vita seems to suffer the same fate (3 to 5 hour depending) as the 3DS and it's barely acceptable. The only thing is we don't have a choice, that's what we get.
Why should I have to look at other options to extend my battery life when I know I won't get to charge it for a while? I never complained when my DS went flat, as it lasts so long in the first place.

You guys do realise that the only reason the DS Lite lasted so long was because it was so hugely underpowered?
It's not like Nintendo cheaped out with the batteries or anything, they could not physically increase the battery life any further without making the unit larger our sacrificing performance. _________________

The problem isn't systems, as Esposch accurately implied, it is battery technology. There hasn't been huge advancements in portable battery technology and components for far too long, at least on an affordable mass market level, and has thus fallen significantly behind growing processing speeds. We're making our processors clocked faster and build smaller quicker than we're producing advanced battery technology.
Hence the suggestion that to increase battery life, you need a bigger battery. Nintendo isn't stupid and Sony isn't either. If they could easily afford a battery of equal size with greater energy capacity they'd snatch it up in a heart beat. The tech doesn't exist, so the only option is a bigger battery, and in both cases they didn't want to make their systems any bigger than they already are. _________________

The thing with the iPod, though, is that you can use it just for music when the battery is low and get hours out of it. More than enough for say, a flight to London from Melbourne. The 3DS (and probably Vita) won't last long enough for a flight like that. However, long distance travelling is probably the only time you need more than 5 or so hours battery. It has enough life to last a day, and then you can just charge it when you get home.

Battery technology is lagging, so we either have to suck it up when it comes to battery life, or make use of the alternatives on the market. Personally, I agree that five hours is a little low, but at the same time I can't say that I've found myself getting annoyed with my 3DS for cutting out every time I play. I can get at least a couple of sessions out of each charge, so I'm fine with it.
The good thing about the PSP though, was that the battery is removable. I was able to get my hands on a second battery and swap between the two whenever one went flat and I wanted to take my PSP with me. Unfortunately, we can't do anything like that with the 3DS or Vita. _________________

You can get a portable charger from DX for $13.83 (iirc). They're surprisingly good quality and charge everything except an iPad. It fully charges a 3ds with some power to spare. Not sure why more people don't use them, TBH. They're much nicer than those Nyko things. _________________

Do you know if any of these portable chargers are found in retail stores? _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

That battery comparison is a bit silly. There is no real I/O or stress on the CPU. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Yes, but they cost a shitload and are probably no better than the DX one. _________________

Question:
Is closing the 3DS without specifically pressing the power button and selecting sleep mode still considered as going to 'sleep' for the purposes of streetpass/spotpass/whateverpass? _________________

Noob Question Part Deux:
Does the wireless switch have to be on the 'on' position for streetpass and associated things? Obviously connecting to the interwebs requires it to be on but does streetpassing also require it? _________________

Two for two. StreetPass requires that the wireless switch be on. You also need it on for local multiplayer. I just leave mine on all the time. _________________

Just in case anyone has a Japanese 3DS console:
| Quote: | Theatrhythm Final Fantasy - Japanese Demo Out Now
The Theatrhythm Final Fantasy demo is now available through Nintendo's e-shop. So if you own a Japanese 3DS, go check out the demo. |

I'm really enjoying my 3DS over this little period. It seems like Nintendo is getting it together with the little unit. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Just grabbed Pushmo (Pullblox) off the eshop and am really enjoying it. Anyone else tried it out yet? _________________

Been playing a lot of Mario Kart 7 the last couple days. The depth with the 3D on is really something, it makes some parts of the game really pretty. I love the Cherry Blossoms on, I think it's Luigi circuit.

Picked up 9 people on Streetpass today, that's a record high for me! Mario Kart and SM3DL sure did wonders for the 3DS's sales. _________________
