Well he's not the first to do this... plenty of Australian online stores like Dungeon Crawl sell imported games for a discount.

Yeah, but it's Gerry. He is going against his own company. It's hilarious. Never said it was groundbreaking.

It does seem a bit hypocritical considering what he's been complaining about lately.. If you can't beat them join them I guess.

Front page of site is up but every title is listed as sold out. Console specific pages aren't loading yet.

Some price comparisons, assuming the prices on the HN site stay the same:

MarioKart7
HarveyNorman - $47
Ozgameshop - $47.99
DungeonCrawl - don't have it

SuperMario3DLand
HarveyNorman - $46
Ozgameshop - $45.99
DungeonCrawl - $62.90

Skyrim 360
HarveyNorman - $59
Ozgameshop - $56.99
DungeonCrawl - $69.90

Uncharted3
HarveyNorman - $64
Ozgameshop - $57.99
DungeonCrawl - $68.50

Not as bad as expected, Ozgameshop still a bit cheaper (plus you're not supporting Gerry Harvey).

Interesting... I wonder if they will have any of the rare stuff.

What's Ozgameshop like for delivery/service?

OzGameShop is great! Delivery times obviously vary though. Skyrim took about 8 days for me, but Battlefield 3 took close to a month. They'll send you another game if it's not there in 25 business days though.

The wholesale price might be less but Gerry's 1000% price hike won't be icon_razz.gif.

The pricing actually looks pretty decent though. If the postage times are within Australia then I might just shop there.

Top notch. Postage is free but they still send games in a box or box insert and if the game doesn't arrive then they can offer a replacement or refund. The only downside is postage times are about 2 weeks and sometimes up to 30-40 days.

And the site is back!

Looks like the delivery might be from the UK according to the FAQ (http://www.harveynormandirectimport.com/help) section of the site
Quote:
Games will usually be delivered to metropolitan city address at any time between 7 to 14 working days from date of dispatch. This timeframe may be affected during any peak postal times during the year (i.e., Christmas/Easter) or during British/Australian public holidays, our games are at fantastic prices and will be well worth the wait.

Edit - and now the site is closed again...

HOPEFULLY distributors and publishers here will take notice. I'm sure JB will be putting up their import business now that Harvey has.

I think it's actually from Ireland.

FAQ wrote:
When will my items be delivered to me?

We can deliver products to your home or office anywhere within Australia. Purchased items are normally dispatched one to three (Republic of Ireland) business days after the order is placed.

All the 'contact' links on the FAQ point to the main site.... dodgy =P

Northern Ireland is part of the UK. You're probably both right.

Except the Republic of Ireland is in the South, not North. Nor is it part of the UK or Britain icon_biggrin.gif

Okay, I'm obviously not in the mix of things here, so I'm to have to ask this. Who is Gerry Harvey and why do we hate him?

Chairman of Harvey Norman.

Guy who runs harvey norman, tried to have importing games/movies means you'd get taxed for a lot if you importaed so you'd stop ignoring his stores.

That's pretty dick. And funny now, seeing the change of heart.

I was wondering wtf games here were so incredibly overpriced.

Not even willing to import games in first and build up an inventory. Lazy fucks

I guess I didn't catch it fast enough icon_lol.gif

Doesn't seem like anything to jump up and down about. Seems like a ruse to get people that are import-phobic to do it without knowing

Pretty much. There's no incentive to buy from them.

One thing many users have not seen is:

Quote:
What is the cost of Delivery?

A delivery fee is applicable to each individual game. This delivery fee is $3.95 per game regardless of how many you order. For example, if you order three games the delivery fee is 3 x $3.95 = $11.85.

So, let's review:

1. Decent prices = Good
2. Long delivery period = Bad
3. Delivery fee on each individual item = Bad

I think I'll still have a job next year.

Those delivery fees suck. Their prices are alright, but he's ust shooting himself in the foot there. Cheap postage isn't hard to come by.
