Ok lets confirm or clear up a few things. It is true that the PS Vita is locked to one account, the only way to change account is to reset your PS Vita and by reset is basically formatting it - you lose all your data, settings, everything.

It doesn't matter if you switch memory cards, the account settings are stored on the unit's memory and not on the memory card. The memory card pretty much stores, the game, game data and any dlc, basically all game related stuff.

You can login with your Australian PSN account on a Japanese Vita, so in that respect it is pretty much region free, except since the Vita isn't launched in Australia you can't access any of the market place, is yes it is region free but it's also region locked (it all depends on your PSN account). You can see all your trophies, friends list, the functions are basically what you see on the PS3.
So this could affect any dlc, it's more or less the same principles as what you experience on the PS3.

When setting up, the unit itself is like the PSP incomes in multiple languages and the setup is pretty much similar, language, date, time, PSN account, etc.

The interface is totally different, gone is the XMB. It's all just touch, this icon, and that icon. The PS Button now has multiple functions, it's like a windows key, you can access your desktop, if you hold it down it arranges all your windows like windows 7 aero (or like the original xbox 360 blades interface). There's now multiple windows and you basically swipe to get to each window.

The touch pad on the back is all gloss and easy to use you can get a screen protector for the back if you want to avoid scratching it up. The screen itself is amazing, the OLED screen is really vibrant and clear. The overall feel is quite solid when you hold it in your hands, it doesn't feel cheap or nasty. The D pad feels much nicer, the buttons are sized a little smaller, people with big hands may find things a little cramp, but the analogue sticks are positioned and feels nice, basically it works like it should.

The box is kinda large for what you get inside, there's lot of space. You get the unit itself, a USB charger that plugs separately into your AC adapter, power cord and manual.

You don't get a manual with the games, all the manuals in on the game cartridge itself. Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 for example has mixed Japanese and english, the menu's are in english but the winning quotes are all in Japanese, you can however change between Japanese and english voices.

You wouldn't get me waiting in line at minus zero temperatures. I'm so excited to get my hands on one I'll probably end up importing before the Australian release.

I would imagine the browser would be an internal one developed by Sony, similar to the browser in the PSP and PS3

XMB is not a great interface IMO. I'm glad it's looking like Sony is ditching it.

well I'm posting this reply on the PS Vita, it's not bad, has the usual gestures similar to what Apple uses with the pinch to zoom and so forth.

I would say, its probably a little slower compared to firefox as an example, but it does basically all you need. The touch keypad is responsive enough. Obviously views PALGN fine, no flash support yet but Sony has said it will come with in the form of an update down the track.

Edit: included image. As you can see PALGN looks fine on the Vita.

In regards to flash, it'll come whenever Sony's successfully convinced Adobe to develop a flash plug-in for the Vita

Well, according to this little website, here is the launch day releases for the US/EU:

* Army Corps of Hell
* Escape Plan
* Everybody's Golf/Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
* F1 2011
* FIFA Soccer/FIFA Football
* Gravity Rush
* Hustle Kings
* Little Deviants
* Michael Jackson: The Experience
* ModNation Racers: Road Trip
* MotorStorm RC
* Plants vs Zombies
* Reality Fighters
* Ridge Racer
* Shinobido 2: Tales of the Ninja
* Super Stardust Delta
* Top Darts
* Touch My Katamari
* Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
* Uncharted: Golden Abyss
* Unit 13
* WipEout 2048

Also, a few that have been slapped with a "launch window" release, so that's normally the first month or two after release or if we're lucky they might just manage to sneak in on release:

* Lumines
* Nina Gaiden Sigma
* Stardrone
* Rayman Origins
* Dynasty Warriors

It's a rumour more than anything right now, just because nobody else has posted or confirmed it as of yet.

I'm sad at the lack of Sound Shapes and the fact that Lumines and Dynasty Warriors most likely won't be launch day, but I'll probably be grabbing a couple of games out of Gravity Rush, Escape Plan, Everybody's Golf and Wipeout 2048.

Edit: According to EB Rayman Origins will be a launch game and they've also dropped the 3G model to $418 on their website as have Game.

Also, EB now has prices up for the memory cards. It's $26.95 for the 4gb, $44.95 for the 8gb and $64.95 for the 16gb. So the 4gb and 16gb are both cheaper than the rumoured US prices.

Seems a few people are having issues with non responsive touch screens, etc (example).. hope Sony work them out. From what many people say, it feels like a well built console. Any word on backwards compatibility with PSP or is that ship dead in the water?

There is a program to seemingly send in your UMD copies and get discounts on digital versions for you to download onto your Vita. I'm still not entirely sure on how it works since the website with the list of games is all in Japanese.

We'll see how accurate that list is soon, I guess. I'd be happy if that was the actual list though, out of those, I definitely intend to buy:

Gravity Rush
Touch My Katamari
Super Stardust Delta
Uncharted: Golden Abyss

So, 4 games at launch is pretty good imo. I'm glad to hear about the memory card prices, they're much more reasonable than I'd expected. icon_smile.gif

Yeah, I had a further read and it does state that it's the games that have been confirmed so far, but both Blazblue and Lumines have actually been confirmed as launch titles by Aksys and Ubisoft respectively.

Also, Sony have stated that they will be doing varied prices on Vita games to combat smartphones apps. Both Little Deviants and Wipeout 2048 have both had the RRP is the US dropped to $29.99, so we can expect those to be cheaper over here as well.

Going by Game's preorder prices the games will vary from $39.95 for Little Deviants and Reality Fighters up to $69.95 for Uncharted and a whopping $79.95 for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I must be weird because I was excited for the 3DS and I don't regret buying one but the Vita doesn't interest me at all.

I was fairly excited for the 3DS, but I have definitely regretted buying one since then. Only in the last couple of months has it started to become a worthwhile purchase. I have a lot of interest in the Vita since I loved the PSP, and there's actually a good number of launch titles that I want, unlike the 3DS.

The news about the varied prices is great, it's nice to see that publishers (except Capcom) are being reasonable. They will definitely sell more copies that way, and at that price I may just check out Little Deviants.

Hmmm tempted to rush out and preorder it, but I just might sit back and wait to see if there are any offers close to release

Yeah, that's definitely my plan. There's always better deals around once the release date approaches. GAME have got the best deal so far: Free copy of Ridge Racer and the pre-order pack. I'm rather tempted.

My only concern regarding that launch title list is that Sony posted this on the PlayStation website a while back. Interestingly, Ridge Racer is not on Sony's list, even though GAME are offering it as a pre-order bonus. Perhaps Sony's list was incomplete.

That list posted by Sony is only first-party titles, Ads.

I'm waiting to see EB's preorder game bonus, since they're likely to do one as well. Only reason I want to buy from them is so I can grab it at the inevitable midnight launch. I'll be getting any extra games from wherever they're cheapest.

Launch list looks pretty average (I would maybe get Uncharted and that's about it).....maybe Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 if it was $sub-60. I wish they launched with like a Daxter sequel (one of my fave games on the PSP). Well OK, it's 100x better then the 3DS launch list.

I guess the thing that might make me cave is the Wi-Fi only price. It looks look like good value and hard to resist. Is it confirmed to be 100% backwards compatiable with the digital PSP games?

Actually, Sony uses the NetFront browser in the PSP and PS3. I'm secretly hoping they're using an internal WebKit-based browser on the Vita, though, as NetFront only has very limited HTML5 support.

I wouldn't expect the Vita to ever support Flash, as Adobe have effectively canned any further development of Flash on mobile (read: ARM) platforms.

Anyway, I came here to post a video from Kotaku of the Vita's UI in action. I've got to say, it looks a lot nicer when you see it moving. I like the "Stickers" metaphor for unlocking the screen and closing apps.

So I'm guessing the only way to play original PSP games on the Vita would be if they are released separately on the memory cards or downloadable?

The only way at the moment is to download them from the PSN store. You can either buy them for the standard price, or if you already own the game, you can get a discount on them by sending something (I'm not sure exactly what) to Sony. So, there's backwards compatibility, but not in the true sense of the term. I plan to keep my PSP console.

Battery life contest between the PSP, 3DS and Vita:

1st place: PSP at 9 hours
2nd place: Vita at 3 hours and 47 minutes
3rd place: 3DS at 2 hours and 35 minutes

Quote:
PSP is the 3000 Hunsters model and is playing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd via UMD; the 3DS is the Zelda 25th Anniversary edition system and is playing Monster Hunter 3G with the 3D slider set on high; and the Vita is the 3G/WiFi model sporting Uncharted: Golden Abyss. All three systems are set to maximum brightness and volume.

I think that comparisons a little unfair on the Vita and a bit flattering for the psp to be honest, since the vita is the only console that's actually doing any sort of graphical gruntwork whilst the test is going on...
