Players may alternatively choose to magically mix their coal into something shiny and new by “crafting” seven pieces into a gift from the Great Gift Pile. So this year receiving coal is a good thing.
Didn’t get what you want? Of course Steam allows you to trade coal and prizes with your friends. |
Daily deals with Xmas-themed achievements.
Get those themed achievements to earn gifts or coal.
A gift can be coupons or free games.
Coal can be traded for gifts or will get you an entry to the epic giveaway on 2nd January.
Oh and everyone gets a free gift to start off with (from the sale page I think). Mine was 33% off any Valve title.

After restarting Steam about 50 times just to make the inventory work... I found out that I got myself a free copy of Half Life 2.
Thanks Valve! I'll put it right alongside my launch-day collector's edition disc.
I'll end up giving the spare copy away at some point.

That's weird I completed an achievement in Orcs Must Die thats supposed to give me a gift/lump of coal but I've checked my inventory and theres nothing new there :/

There's sometimes a delay between getting the achievement and receiving your present. Steam's servers are busy.
