I haven't had much of an issue yet. Swapped out my Black Knight Greataxe (AP 600) for a Demon Machete +15 (AP 600) optionally with Sunlight Blade miracle (AP 900). Killed the NG+ Gargoyles in like 2-3 hits each =)
Most enemies are dying in one hit still, without even enchanting the blade. Mind you if even the little buggers catch you offguard they take huge chunks of health off. _________________

I am looking to get the Official Guide (Hardback Cover) for Dark Souls because it looks really good, but I would like to know if anyone here bought one? If yes, then how's the quality of the guide?

I have mine on my lap at the moment. It's pretty good, the maps for each area are awesome. It's very in depth. It's just a damn shame it arrived when I've already done everything D= _________________

So tempted to pick this up but the Christmas period is putting me off, as I don't want to be worrying about whether its lost in transit, worker holiday mode or such. Maybe after the new year. So want this game for some good PvP and co-op. _________________

According to the developers: "Official guide nerfed". Lol. I'm still going to pick it up eventually even though I've finished the game. It looks really nice.

@ OropherX and Pagan's Mind: Thanks. Do you guys think they will released a revision of the official guide?

Got my Limited edition copy of this yesterday and spent 2 hours playing it last night, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I made up a knight character as having more HP sounded appealing, I was tempted to try the naked female but I'll do that next time.
Having no idea on what I'm really meant to do, I've just spent my time killing anything that attacks me and exploring. I've died a bunch of times already and have lost my souls a couple of times but that hasn't bothered me....yet. Every now and then I see the ghost ouline of which, I'm guessing, is another player.
I'm hoping to find some new equipment at some point and some quests or something. I'm still using what i found at the start. I did find some person selling magic spells but I couldn't sell anything. Oh well I'll figure all of this out eventually. I'll put some more time into it this afternoon/night and see how I go. _________________

Yup the ghost like things you see occasionally are other players going about their business.
If you see a white sign on the ground then you can summon another player however you need to be in human form. To do so you must consume a humanity (you can also acquire them automatically if you're lucky by killing enemies) and then go to a bonfire and select "reverse hollowing". You can be invaded by other players while in human form as well.
Also don't bother putting your soul level stats into resistance. It may sound good having more defense but it's such a tiny increase that it'll never be noticed. HP and endurance are far better for survivability, I would recommend getting endurance to 40 and HP to between 40-50. Going over 50 isn't really worth it because the increase in HP gets smaller.
You can't really sell anything in Dark Souls. Later in the game you will be able to feed something your items and equips for souls but that's it. Souls can really only be acquired by defeating enemies and using those soul items.

There aren't really any quests either. There's the main, vague story line (ring those bells!), a few optional areas and some NPCs you can help along their own story lines.
Co-op is fun, informative and profitable. I recommend you use your white stone to get summoned by others
As for resistance, I don't really get why they bothered including it. Almost no one will put points into it ever. _________________

I put in two points... Two points I will never get back...
Ha, anyway, I'm really loving this game. I'm 98 hours into the game now and I still haven't even beaten any of the 4 lords to kindle the Lord Vessel.
Been farming Titanite slabs like a crazy mother F'r. I have 5 now. Elite Knight Armor Set +10 here I come! _________________

Is that good? I didn't really get the point of upgrading armour. You die in 1-2 hits anyway =) _________________

I think so? Instead of 1-2 hits... I've been surviving... 3-4 hits! lol
I've been upgrading the Elite knight's armor since I started the game, so I thought I'd might as well go the whole way with it. It's physical defense at +10 rivals that of Havels and Smoughs, but magically it's not as good. I just think it looks cool. ha. _________________

Pretty excited for this game. I ended up ordering the Limited Edition from Zavvi for $36 AUD (thank god, as two days later the game dispatched and the 360 version was no longer in stock). I overlooked it back in October due to Gears of War 3 multiplayer and uni exams consuming my time, and I didn't really know much of its past roots in Demon Souls as I don't have a PS3. I'm a stats, customisation and punishment RPGer at heart and as much as I love Skyrim, I'd like something else a bit more challenging and out of the ordinary to mix it up.
You guys here in this thread have also contributed to my growing interest in the game. I was just wondering what you all would reccommend as the most satisfying combat direction (focus on melee, magic, archery, or hybrids?). I'm a bit of a nutcase when it comes to choosing class types in RPGs as I can't seem to ever make a decision fast enough. I do know however that I always choose based on fun and lack of cheapness. What is Pyromancy like in the game? Is archery worth investing in? Is melee just hack and slash or strategic slash and thrust? I'm also interested in planning as two of my friends are interested in Dark Souls as well and are both buying it around the same time as I get mine in early Jan by this point, and we want to be a balanced effort.
Also, I've been trying to find a direct answer on the Internet in regards to co-operative play. When playing co-op with someone, can you play through the area in which you are in until the final boss is defeated? Or can you only summon one another for the boss fight itself? And can you both (or three of you, is that right?) roam around in the HUB bits as well? _________________

Man, I really want to play this again/platinum it.
I've even semi-retired Blazblue for the meantime to push through my backlog. Although, I'm receiving my new arcade stick + extend next week. :/

I find melee more satisfying than magic. It's really personal preference though.
| Exodus wrote: | | What is Pyromancy like in the game? |
It's a just third type of magic. I don't think it scales as well as the other two though.
| Exodus wrote: | | Is archery worth investing in? |
Yes but only if you want to go for a dex build along with curved swords. Archery will only really work in some PvE settings, not in PvP or some boss fights.
| Exodus wrote: | | Is melee just hack and slash or strategic slash and thrust? |
It can be either. A small shield and parrying blows is very strategic. If you go heavy armour you can ignore a lot of hits and just plough through with a greatsword. Of course you still need some good timing and dodging =)

You can summon people in any area where you can not defeated a boss. So you can play through right from when the area name pops up until killing any boss. Phantoms can't go back with you to a hub, those sort of doorways will be blocked by fog/light. _________________

My build is a melee and faith hybrid. I find faith complements a melee build well with the healing miracles and there's a couple covenant specific weapon enchantments. Being a hybrid means you can't really go all out on either stat (faith or strength) so you'll have rather average weapon damage (I use lightning and fire imbued weapons as they don't scale with STR but still offer high damage). However weapon enchanting results in some of the highest damage in the game with the set back of it only lasting 30 seconds. It's great for quick kills in PVP and bosses though.
Pyromancy also goes well with melee because it doesn't need any stat investment. It's the weakest of the three magics and got nerfed big time after the patch. I think it's great starting out but soon becomes obsolete.

Dark Souls, on PC? Hopefully.
I would love for this to happen as I'm fairly sure the online play would suddenly become a hell of a lot more active and crazy. Also, Dark Souls on PC. High res. Oh god. _________________

I put demons souls back in the PS3, I'd done horribly at it previously, but now that i'm on leave from work, i've managed to smash through a couple of bosses and area's without any trouble. Must have been too distracted with other crap to play it properly. _________________
