If he's serious I sort of get what he means, too many colour contrasts at once can look ugly even if its very vibrant. But Trine 2 seems to do it right in my opinion so I don't really see it there.
Portal 2 again

For an 8+ year old engine the Source engine still looks very nice particularly with the lighting.

I'm with jarrod, those Trine 2 screenshots look garish. I mean yay for more colour in games but you can't just do it with a complete disregard for common colour theory. They almost look like they're trying too hard.

It's really not an 8 yearold engine, what's running portal 2 is not the same as what's running half life 2, it's been getting a steady stream of updates from everything they release. _________________

Of course. It's still the Source Engine though no matter how many updates it gets and it looks impressive even today. I doubt my 9600xt would be able to run the current build of it.
Dirt 3 no HUD in car view:
The insane amount of particles makes it kind of hard to drive on those snow stages.

Yeah it is. As far as I know the Gamecube version only supports 4:3 as I couldn't get it to natively display in 16:9 mode even with the widescreen hack.

man I fucking hated the water filter in that game, it just looks so spaz when you're not in the water but it still applies the effect behind you. _________________

I guess it's better than a bland water texture like most games from that generation had. I've seen some current gen games still applying that water filter effect.

As sexy as 1080s are, when it stretches my browser out on my 1080 display in fullscreen mode it's time to start embedding thumbnails. _________________

Here's a tutorial for those who want to post without stretching the page, while maintaining ability to view full size, without needing to manually create thumbnails etc...
Point your browser to http://imgur.com/
To do this, click that link, or if you're really clever, type it in your ADDRESS BAR, not your search bar/s
NOW select the images in Finder/Explorer that you want to show all the bodies, and drag them onto that there imgur window.
CLICK Start Upload!
Don't be alarmed, you will momentarily see little green bars and lots of words, THIS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL, IGNORE IT
OKAY cool, that's all done, you'll see something like this
CLICK that happy little Generate multiple links link on the right hand side
THEN click the happy little drop down box, choose Linked BBCode, and Large Thumbnail as the options, and BAM, click Copy as fast as you can, or if you're really inefficient right click on the selected text, and select COPY.
NOW go to this thread (which you should have kept open in another window or tab), and PASTE that s**t into the quick reply box at the bottom of the page.
You are now, officially, a screenshot sharing MASTERMIND. _________________

We can't make an exception for a screenshots thread?

To be honest I kinda agree its why I've been resizing mine to 720p when I share them here, it tends to look better anyway for a screenshot unless you're wanting to save them as a wallpaper _________________

+1
All mine have been purposely shrunk for this thread.
I guess if we want to use it, we can ask it to be bigger... (that's what she said) _________________ My YouTube game videos!

Alrighty, resizing takes away a lot of the details away so I'll embed a thumbnail for you guys.

^ Yes but it also takes away from a lot of the blemishes/jagged edges/jpeg artifacts/low res textures/etc and results in an overall prettier looking screenshot if you resize. Trust me its worth it Games tend to look a lot better in motion than they look as a still frame and I think most of the 1080p screenies people have posted in this thread would have just looked much better if they were a little bit smaller. It really depends on the game and depends on how well-taken the screenie is to begin with though. _________________

I think for the sake of keeping the images scaled down, we should actually post old school images of the games we are playing and imagine them in high fidelity. Kids these days are spoiled for graphics anyways. For example
Dirt 3 = Bump and Jump (Atart 2600)
Twilight Princess = Zelda (NES)
Mafia 2 = Mafia (Atart 2600)
Dark Souls = Dark Chambers (Atari 2600)

A bit late to the party now that thumbnails are in, but that's the kind of mentality that made web browsing an abomination around 1998 to 2002. Thumbnails with links to the high res versions still give you the screenshot and the option to view it in glorious master race detail, while keeping the browsing experience in tact.
720s are pushing it a bit too, my lappy has 1366x768 maximum resolution, likewise for my television (although PS3 browsing is in proper 720p), but pushing out a 720p display is substantially less silly than pushing out a 1080p. _________________

...or follow A13x's amazingly helpful post and notice it takes about the same effort to copy/paste a thumbnail embed tag as it does to copy/paste the direct link? _________________

Some Half-Life series screenies that still look fairly nice today
and some various:
This phrase is a little throwback to Half-Life 1 for those who don't get it! I also got little tingles when the G-Man said the phrase "Unforseen Consequences" in Epi 2, which is the name of the third chapter in Half-Life 1. /halflifenerd
David Blaine in Half-Life 2? ^_^
The "All-Knowing" Vortigaunt referencing the G-Man.

Let's hope no 640x480 users come complaining . Let's get back to posting screenshots rather than having a slinging match over thumbnail use, the issue has been resolved. Feel free to contribute Gooberman.

I like the part where Pagan's Mind compares a long-deprecated desktop resolution to a commonly used desktop resolution.
But hey, since you asked/demanded/snarked, here's some that I've uploaded previously.
Serious Sam 3 easter egg:
ZDoom running the Xbox 360 version of the Doom 2 IWAD:
A ZDoom map I've been working on in once-every-two-years-for-a-day-or-two spurts:
Some code I was writing years back:
And on top of that, the thumbnails used here make browsing on a mobile device nice! _________________
