Still amuses me to no end that the ending to Metal Gear Solid 2 has it's own TV Tropes page for being so goddamn confusing. _________________

[quote="Gamesta"]Yeah no need to be like that.
I think Benza knows i dont mean it personally. (though it could certainly sound that way) I just like to push back as much as he does
We both are very passionate about our views being recognized, so in that way we are very alike and quite frankly its fun pushing buttons with him. Only cause i know he dishes it out that hard already

No worries, I'll go ahead and assume that you managed to sit through the media-diarrhea of MGS4 so it's clear we have differing opinions on quality _________________

See, I don't mind that, but I've always had a soft spot for Metal Gear. Even with the copious cheese and over-the-top anime nonsense, I dig it. Kojima does what he does in a special kind of way with his own unique touch, and for that reason I thought MGS and MGS3 were excellent. Really fun games to boot.
MGS4 is where it goes from pulpy cheesy fun to legitimately awful script, characterisation, cinema, story, plot, pacing and everything else with practically zero redeeming elements. The idea that there's some misunderstood subtle artistic depth to that godawful train wreck is as hilarious as it is sad. So, so bad. _________________

Couldnt agree more on that. I love MGS 4 though, and not for the cut scenes, although I do enjoy the story and learning pie to 50 digits while thinking about making fried eggs. I love it for the stealth even from the MG 1&2

See I can deal with the cheese and the anime nonsense. It's when it sticks you in a 30 minute cutscene that's just brain fryingly boring that I have an issue with. The codec conversations mainly.
Seriously I almost quit MGS 1 after that fucking nuclear disarmament speech. _________________

I also quite liked the codec convos in MGS and MGS3, but one of my prime complaints about MGS2's story is how much exposition is forced upon really monotonous long winded codec convos. The whole Rose/Jack stuff is like beating a dead horse.

To be fair I do feel a bit similar, as in, I think the fundamentals of stealth in MGS4 as the best in the series. I mentioned it in my usual long winded review; MGS4 built an incredible foundation of mechanics, but failed to capitalised on them. Act 1 and 2 did alright, but every act that followed seemed either too focused on a gimmick, pure action, or very minimal gameplay in favour of cutscenes. Had actually stuck to the stealth system for all chapters I would have liked it more, and not felt worn out by the end.
But it was the story that mostly drove me mental in MGS4, not so much the gameplay. _________________

I thought Act 3 was a great idea TBH in MGS4. Pushed the stealth mechanic even further by following someone. And act 4 is sneaking through the back end of shadow moses island, and act 5 is sneaking across the ship. Act 3-5 though is greatly reduced in game play though, but I think the stealth really is the same.
To those guards in act 1 in MGS4 who could hear me "walking" on the floor below them in a war-zone, I call BS. God damn Boss Difficulty.

You know, yes the trailer shocked me. As it was so DIFFERENT from traditional Metal Gear.
But really, in relation to the what I saw Raiden doing, it was 'similar' (although a lot more rediculous) to the stuff raiden was doing in MGS4, which I thought was suitable.
And the gameplay looked pretty fun, although its so going to get banned in AUS. I'm pretty sure if we saw that trailer with Ryu, Dante, or some other character that does insane combos with big swords, I think many would be cheering it on.
It still did take away my interest as now it sounds like a standard 'hack n slash' so im not fussed about it anymore, however the gameplay personally looked pretty fun and ridiculous, and sometimes ridiculous is a good thing.
However, Jarrod did you say its not set post-MGS4? So Raiden went and got turned back into a robot-dude? _________________ http://bencadphotography.com/

Do you guys seriously pay any attention to the games that actually get released here before you claim it will be banned.
I mean we got the Afro Samuria game, and the whole cutting thing is just stealing the concept from that wholesale.
we got Ninja Gaiden 2 wich had plenty of dismemberment for the whole family.
Why would this be any different?
(Also it's set post MGS 4, was originally going to be between 2 and 4 but then it got moved when Platnium said it wasn't working) _________________

i honestly don't get the backlash against this - not so early on anyway.
mind you, i didn't mind the fact that Raiden was the player character in MGS2, so maybe i'm "not a real MG fan". _________________

The Metal Gear games always seemed to get the same kind of fanatical following Final Fantasy/JRPGs in general has. So it's not like the backlash is unprecedented. _________________

I'm with you, I happen to like Raiden. Personally, I found myself enjoying MGS4 the most out of the MGS games, though 3 was an awesome game in pretty much every way. It's probably because I played through the series for the first time shortly before MGS4 was released.
Rising looks like a fun spin-off to me, nothing more, nothing less. It's a hack-and-slash game featuring Raiden, plenty of action, and some cool dismemberment. I see nothing bad here. It's not MGS5, and anyone who treats it as such is going to be disappointed. _________________
