I think that's going to be the case for all servers, at least for a while afterlaunch. If BW learned anything from WoW though (and judging by, well everything, in TOR it looks as if they have), they'll soon allow server transfers to allows regional groups to play together, so staking a claim would be a good idea.

OK, it seems that the majority of the Oceanic PvP guilds were assingned to Swiftsure.
PALGN, probabaly because I'm in it and always mess up things like supermakret queues and highway lanes, has been assigned Dark Reaper.
The SWTOR guild deployment did say beforehand that guilds could be moved wholesale at release if the server didn't suit. I'll see what we can do about this.
Edit: Found out how to do this (or not, as the case may be):
| Quote: | | The Pre-Launch Guild Program server assignments cannot be transferred to other servers. However, players are free to create a new guild on a different server once they are in the game. Please note that guilds outside of the Pre-Launch Guild Program cannot be created until a player reaches their Capital Planet (Dromund Kaas for the Empire, Coruscant for the Republic). Guild invites from the Pre-Launch Guild Program can be accepted immediately upon character creation. |
In short, it looks like the majority of Aussie PvP guilds are heading to Swiftsure. We don'g have to go to Dark Reaper, but the PALGN guild has already been set up there. If we go to Swiftsure we will have to wait until someone can get to Cosrucsant to create the guild. No biggie, but hey.

Posting for reference for anyone interested. Early access starts today at 11pm AEST for those pre-order early and more invites will be stagger across the day/week.
PvP: The Swiftsure
RP-PvE: Begeren Colony
PvE: The Harbinger and Jekk'Jekk Tarr
Servers were picked based on the guild early deployment program.
Edit: They couldn't settle on which PvE server would be the official ones so both of those will have Aussies on them. Here's the breakdown of guilds that participated in the early deployment program. Majority of the guilds will be on The Harbinger (24 to 5 split) but one of the guild on JTT has like 200 members.

Someone best haul ass to Coruscant then!. Although i can see huge server ques for Swiftsure like any other mmo the unofficial aussie server will fill up very quick. We best keep an eye on it if a second (third etc) is announced. I'll be buggered if i want to sit in ques all day. I remember in Rift you could wait up to 12 hours in a Que. Remember the official oceanic servers will come at some stage. What does everyone want to do?
Edit | Quote: | What happens if I don’t like my server assignment?
Ignore it. You are more than welcome to create a new guild on a different server (as long as no one has already taken your desired guild name, of course). In order to create a guild in-game, you’ll need to gather a full group of four players and 5,000 credits, then speak to the Guild Registrar on the Republic/Imperial Fleets. |

I'd rather go to Swiftsure. We don't know there will be server queues, but even if there are it means the server won't be dead in a few months. And if BW leanr anything from WoW they'll allow free server t'fers from the unofficially elected regional severs to centralise populations.
Edit; just spoke to a few people who were in beta about the 5,000 creds guild cost. Apparently that's nothing. They all said they left the starting worold with 6-8k creds, so the cost shouldn't be an issue.

Alrighty guys, I have a proposal for you all:
The PALGN guild on the SWTOR site officially had 18 members, but this thread has been a little slow with just a few people regularly posting. Yeah, I know it's pre-launch and all that, but I have an idea.
Given that the PALGN guild was not assigned to the server with the majority of the Aussie PvPers (Swiftsure), and that the guild would therefore not be in place in that server and would require someone to reach lvl 10 and pay for the guild setup costs, why don't we post our character names here when we create them (for me, probably around 4am tomorrow morning ) and we can add each other to freinds lists and just play and have fun.
If before any of us reach lvl ten and we run into am easy going guild we can see if they will take multiple applications and join up to a larger one en-mass.
This would have two benefits:
- Not having to fork out the costs at start up
- Havng a larger player base to play with than those of us here
I've done some research into the current Republic guilds on Swiftsure and there are way to may to case before launch, and I'm a big believer in meeting a mamber before joining anyway.
Does this sound like a plan to anyone?
Edit: And in case you were wondering who was on the server: http://www.swtor.com/guilds/search?shardName[]=he2021

I'm in! Played 40 mins or so this morning before work. Not far in, only lvl 4, but I am enjoying it. It feels almost exactly like WoW, but instead of charging in wacking things I'm using a blaster at distance. I'm enjoying choosing which responces I give at quest hand in and the different effects it gives.
Had a few graphical glitches, one which was jilarious. A quest giver was for sme reason 6" tall and giving my character a dressing down. It was like being told off by a Nac Mac Feegle.
My character's a Trooper called Norks (he he - I'm 33 before you ask) on the Swiftrun server.

A quick rundown of the different stats in TOR:
Primary Statistics
The numbers you will be tracking, and be aware of the most are your primary stats. These seven variables will determine everything from how much damage your character deals out, to the effectiveness of your companions. Depending on you class choice; there will also be one stat that garners bonus effects. For instance, in the case of the Jedi Knight and Sith warrior, putting more points into strength not only increases melee damage and critical chance, it also gives an increase in force damage and critical.
With the exception of the Knight/Warrior, the advanced class will also play a role in what bonuses are received. (i.e. Smuggler/Agent - both AC receive bonus to tech dmg/crit, but scoundrel/operative also gain a healing bonus.)
Strength (Bonus: Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior) – Increases melee damage and critical strike chance.
Class Bonus: Force Damage and Force Critical.
Presence – Increases the effectiveness of your companion including, their health, damage, and healing.
Aim (Bonus: Bounty Hunter/ Trooper) – Increases damage and critical chance with ranged weapons.
Class Bonus: All advanced classes receive a bonus to tech damage and critical while Commando/Mercenary also gain a bonus to healing power.
Cunning (Bonus: Smuggler/ Imperial Agent) – Increases your tech damage and critical chance.
Class Bonus: All advanced classes receive a bonus to tech damage and critical while Scoundrel/ Operative also gain a bonus to healing power.
Endurance – Increases your maximum health and health regeneration.
Willpower (Bonus: Jedi Consular/ Sith Inquisitor) – Increases your damage and critical chance with force abilities.
Class Bonus: Shadow/ Assassin gain melee damage and critical bonus. Sage/Sorcerer receive an increase in healing power.
Expertise – Increases your effectiveness in PVP combat by reducing damage taken and increasing damage dealt when facing another player.
Secondary Statistics
Your secondary statistics include things like Power, Accuracy, and Surge which for the most part provide across the board benefits for attacks and heals.
Accuracy Rating– Increases the chance that any of your attacks will hit the target. Any accuracy over 100 percent will reduce the targets defense.
Power – Provides an increase in damage and healing for all abilities. There are also Tech, Force, and Healing specific power stats available on certain gear and modifications.
Alacrity – Decreases the activation time for all of your abilities both cast and channeled.
Surge – Increases the percentage of damage dealt and amount healed during a critical.
Critical Rating – Increases the chance of a critical attack or heal.
Defensive Statistics
Your defensive stats will tell you how well you’re going to fare when you end up taking damage, and include your armor rating and resistances/ reductions.
Armor – Reduces the amount of damage received from kinetic and energy based attacks.
Damage Reduction – The four types of damage reduction in the game are kinetic, energy, internal, and elemental. While all four can be increased by finding gear with those specific reductions, kinetic and energy are also bolstered by your armor rating.
Shield Chance – Any classes that are able to equip an off-hand shield will see this stat which represents the chance of that shield activating. You will also find an absorption rating, which depending on the shield, is how much damage it will take when activated.
Defense Chance – Increases your chance to avoid attacks all together. It’s broken down into four categories including melee parry, ranged deflect, force resistance, and tech resistance.

Sorry guys
After a few hours I'm lvl 8. Not quite finsihed with the starter trooper story (I think), so still playing solo. I have noticed a lot of empty ground you have to cover, which is worrying. I hope the scenery fills up in later levels.

I like that my trooper, beside it big arse cannon (that is, his cannon is big, it doesn't shoot arses) has a pistol which he uses exclusively for threatening people in cut scenes. It's his Threatenin' Gun.

You suck, Obs!
From what I gather the PvP will be like the Warhammer where only some sections of the areas are PvPable, not whole maps.

Got my early access approved this morning, been playing for the past two hours before work, up to level 6 so far as a Twi'lek smuggler, and loving it. I'm on the Master Zhar Lestin server, PvE for the moment, though no doubt I will have multiple characters for this MMO within the next few weeks. But the smuggler caught my eye during the beta so I'm sticking with 'her' for now
