Has anyone else got this yet? I signed up for the beta and it updated on the 11/11/11. The new interface and design seems more organised, less cluttered, and looks more slick. Are Microsoft trying to tie in Windows 8 functionality with all platforms?

I like the sound of that, I'm not a big fan of the current pseudo-XMB style or the colour schemes for it.

How did you sign up for the beta btw? I wouldn't mind signing up for stuff like that icon_smile.gif

It was through the official Microsoft Connect website a few weeks prior. The registration is now closed but I'm pretty sure the update for the new interface will be released pretty soon. It's much more awesome than the current one, that's for sure. It makes more sense with Kinect too.

What does everyone make of that?
I didn't play with it much last night, but i am back to the old, i don't know where anything is routine.
It seemed nice and clean but possibly a bit "modern" for my taste. That beacons and activity thing will probably get very little use from me.
Not to sure about how your friends are displayed on the dash either, but i guess i will get used to all this fandangled crap they added.

I like that I don't have to scroll four menus in either direction through marketing BS to see what my friends are up to.

I dislike that I don't know where the gold members deals of the week are.

Premium themes are now a complete joke, the friends list is just more than a bit silly with two people per shiny podium thing.

I wish you could choose what UI you can use just like a theme, I really liked the original 'blade' theme. I think it suited the xbox more, as I said before I hate the current 360 UI. I don't like the pseudo-xmb style or the colour scheme for the standard theme.

Spot on. The ones that irritate me the most are those community channels with their...strategy tips and whatever other shit they are on about.

Rodney Rude read that in my head, what sorcery is this?

On topic, I'm not sure if I'm some kind of freak but I enjoy change and I see nothing wrong with the new UI.

Well now that you mention it, the overlay takes at least five times as long to get to the same info. So thanks, appreciate the usability tip.

I was hoping to avoid installing this because Metro is the worst thing to come from Microsoft since WinME, but apparently you can't connect to XBL without installing it, which somehow means I can't use my Rockband DLC without installing it.

Fail, Microsoft, fail.

What's so bad about a bad interface? You never really have to see it if you don't want to, other than if you want to download some demos or whatnot. Just set it to automatically start up whatever game is in the tray, and then you'll very rarely have to deal with it. If it was a PC, I'd understand, but not a console.

The new interface is alright, I really like the dark grey/graphite background compared to the bright white background. However they really have to remove all this advertising stuff, or lump it into 1 category.

I can't really do that, as more than one person uses the 360, so at worst, we need to sign in before we play a game.

We like to keep our friend lists and achievements separate, so that's not really a possibility for us.

love the new interface, voice controlls is nifty although I can't get it to recognise me saying home.

Kinect controll actually seems worse, my kinect was having trouble seperating my hand from the rest of my body wich it's never had problems with before.

Overall menu pretty great.

Block Ads by blocking the server Microsoft uses to deliver advertising to the console - rad.msn.com.

One option is to block the domain via your router, if the device's settings support this. After doing so, trying to access the domain via a computer and receiving a 404 or "security" error means the address has been blocked. Receiving a 403 error means the address has not been blocked.

A more detailed method involves using the free OpenDNS service, which can filter your connection and block specific sites. Instructions for doing this lie below, although using this method may require you to re-download any title updates for games you have played.

Sign up for a free OpenDNS account.
Add a network for your current IP address.
Go to Advanced Settings and next to 'Domain Typos', ensure 'Enable typo correction' is checked.
Go to Web Content Filtering settings and set the filtering level to 'None', and under 'Manage individual domains', put rad.msn.com and select 'Always block' and then click 'Add domain'.
On your Xbox, go to System Settings -> Network Settings -> (your connection) -> Configure Network -> DNS settings -> Manual, and enter the OpenDNS IP addresses for the primary and secondary DNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
Clear your hard drive cache: System Settings -> Storage -> Hard Drive -> press Y -> Clear System Cache

After playing around for a few days with it, I don't mind it. It's a lot easier to navigate and I'm stoked they finally released an official iPhone app.

I think the beacon thing can be pretty good, especially if your hanging to play an older game that isn't as popular.

If only they had a few tv app stuff like a youtube app and or a browser.

i think you leave a beacon that says oi, i want to play some fifa or whatever, then it says something like benza wants to play fifa to people when they crank up that game.
