It's a gaming forum Ad's. I also don't think anyone's claiming which genre's better only saying what genre has more merit once you put in hundreds of hours into one game.

What's more surprising is that people will spend 100+ hours on a cutscene laden RPG filled with horribly designed minigames rather than twice that on a skill based competitive multiplayer game. |
Because not all of us absolutely love MP like others do.9 times out of 10 if you ask me if I want to play a game on my own or play a MP game with others, I will choose to play on my own.
Sure I understand why people love mp (hell I obviously do as well when the right game comes around) but I mostly play video games to do something on my own.
Besides if I want to do stuff with others I would usually choose do something with my friends physically with me rather than over an internet connection. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

You lot have gone full retard.
Seriously. You never go full retard.
I mean, let's disregard for a second that two of the games in my top five are RPGs that I've sunk quite a bit of time in to. And the fact that many people's top fives in here share the "two RPGs" as a minimum.
Ads makes a narrow minded comment, so I make one back with a fair degree of troll in it designed to make people consider something from a separate viewpoint, and you're all getting defensive?
Just keep the negs coming in and stop replying. There's no point that needs defending. And get back to being on topic. _________________

**** man, get a grip. |
Nah mostly your comment and Jarrod's weeaboo comment in the other thread. Just seems like this stuff is too much of a common occurrence lately. Can't we just like all genres and leave it at that?
I didn't mean to derail the thread so sorry about that.

My turn.
5. L.A. Noire
An adventure game for the current gen Reading facial expressions to tell if they are lying or telling the truth was innovative. Loved how it tried something different. Dragged down by needless shootouts all the time and bad controls.
4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
THE PC VERSION CAME OUT THIS YEAR so its totally valid. I think it deserves the spot above Revelations because Revelations just added on needless and pointless fluff that wasn't in tone with the rest of the game. Brotherhood definitely improved on the mechanics of Assassin's Creed 2 (which, for the record, was one of the best games i've ever played), it was just dragged down by the story being much less interesting.
3. The Witcher 2
Some really memorable moments, lengthy game with fleshed out characters that kept me hooked, and absolutely beautiful graphics (for me, I consider it easily in the top 3 best looking games out there). I unfortunately found the story and moral choices less interesting than the previous game, and the last chapter was randomly super short. Interestingly, for what is probably the first time in Pixie history, I preferred the more uninvolving point and click style of combat in The Witcher over the direct control combat in The Witcher 2. I really wasn't expecting to feel that way, but it just worked better.
2. Portal 2
God, what is there to say? Such a funny, well written game. Really clever and well designed puzzles, and of course great pacing as is expected from Valve. I was trying to decide between this and Skyrim for the number 1 spot, in the end I chose Skyrim (oops, list spoilers!!) simply because Skyrim has given me more entertainment value and more immersion. Seems simple right? But Portal 2 is undoubtably the better-made game, when I really try to think about it, the only thing I can really say to fault it is that the middle section in the run-down older levels of the lab I found less fun. That's the only thing I can think of, and I'm quite a nitpicker.
1. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
I've played too much of this game and gotten sick of it to the point where even discussing details of it feels like a drag. But that's just what I'm like, I can't play 100s of hours in one game like some people can without wanting to die. The important thing is, I loved it while it lasted. It fixed almost everything I hated about Oblivion and improved upon things I liked. In the end its a really great package filled with content, and Bethesda games are RPGs that are actually fun to play, which is something that happens less than i'd like. Biggest issue? Bugs bugs, oh my god, the bugs.
Honorable Mention to Alice: Madness Returns
Delightfuly weird and creepy, fairly good platforming and all round quite fun to play. A good game that's just a little too long for its own good and drags quite a bit after a while. One of those games that's very good in short doses.

I've only got three to put down so far. I might update the list at the end of the year, but in the meantime... these are the three
1. Portal 2
Portal 2 is definitely my favourite game of the year. From beginning to end it's one hell of a ride and it's something that just about everyone should experience. | SPOILERS FOR THOSE LTTP wrote: | | From Cave Johnson's lemon rant to carrying GlaDOS in a potato |
, there was never a dull moment right through. Oh, and the co-op is insanely awesome. Ummm hurry up Valve with HL3?
2. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
More Uncharted awesomeness! Enjoyed the story immensly. Not really into the multiplayer, even though I messed around a bit with it in number 2, but it certainly is a good addition. I still can't decide if I preferred this game or the previous... both are amazing. The recent patch that added new controls made the game that even bit better (although I didn't have a problem with them in the first place).
3. Saints Row: The Third
So much fun... and a lot better than Saints Row 2. I liked the second one, but the new activities (Genki, etc.), hover bike (specter), awesome missions (deckers.die, Murderbrawl XXXI) and all the other crazy shit makes this game better and one of the best games of the year. I'll probably buy most of the downloadable content that comes out for the game as well. _________________

5. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
This is how a remake should be done.
4. RAGE
This is best looking game I've seen in a while.
3. Forza 4
While couldn't Gran Turismo 5 let me go around the Top Gear track in the reasonably priced car? At least Forza Motorsport 4 let me do it.
2. Portal 2
The final battle was is good.
1. Batman: Arkham City
This is just so good. _________________

I've only bought two eligible (ie, made in 2011) games this year: Portal 2 and Skyrim. I've bought a bunch of indie games from a couple of humble bundles too but I haven't really given them enough of my time - and I'm not sure when they were made either.
Anyway, Skyrim is definitely my number one.
Portal 2? Well I played it in one night (was writing a review for it and only managed to acquire a copy a day before the headline), and, yes, I enjoyed it. But six or seven months later I've almost completely forgotten about it. I guess it could never really come out from under its predecessor's shadow. _________________ My Photos

1. Dark Souls : The defining game of this entire generation of consoles. Pushing boundaries, eliminating hand holding and replacing it with pure adventure and exploration, actual challenge, reward, risk, fear, darkness and just mindblowing and I am still near the end (80 hours now, will play again). Towering, unforgettable. This gives me hope that gaming can actually evolve past the current deadlock its in.
-= MASSIVE GAP =-
2. Super Mario 3D Land: The perfect handheld 3D platformer. Cant spot picking it up every day before and after work, and, platforming magic.
3. Zelda: Skyward Sword: The tradition continues. Motion control issues aside, I love it. Waaaay too much handholding though Nintendo, at least give us the option to turn it off.
4. Xenoblade: JRPGs return with vengeance! Beautiful.
5. Kirbys Adventure - finally found THE game to play with my girlfriend (non gamer). She loves it, its GREAT fun and just really awesome.
Dissapointing:
Battlefield 3: maybe I expected more? Too much noise. Too macho.
Uncharted 3: The story wasn't that gripping, I never really felt excited, the gunplay was off (apparently fixed now) and it just had too many of the same things that we already done in 2. Bring back the awesome level design of the first I say, too much fly here, do this, repeat. Predictable but good, just not great.
Skyrim: All that content is great, I however find the gameplay monotonous and the world too repetitive. Just didn't do it for me gameplay wise, neither did Oblivion. Just not for me maybe.
Gears of War III: another predictable sequel done well but I think I have had enough sequels.
See you guys around Wii U!
* Havent played Batman but Im retiring for a while so wont till Wii U time. Peace! _________________

1. Skyrim: Even though I'm kind of burnt out on it, it's been 50 hours of brilliance so far. It's also been such a quality discussion topic, particularly over a beer. Everyone has their own story and someone's always doing something you haven't.
2. Deus Ex: HR: Despite having never played the originals, I was sucked in by the fancy trailers 18 months out. More or less lived up to my high expectations.
3. Uncharted 3: Not as good as U2, but it was such an awesome ride. Everyone can get fucked, the flashback sequence was great.
4. Infamous 2: Improved on the first in most areas. The series gets "sandbox" right for me.
5. Gears of War 3: Almost put Bulletstorm here, but I can't go past the split screen joy that GoW provides. Little point playing this without someone next to you.
Apologies to Bulletstorm, Crysis 2 and Portal 2. Maybe LA Noire, too.

It saddens me that no one has yet to mention Radiant Historia on the DS, one of the most unexpected amazing games on a portable system to date and probably the one of the best JRPGs released this year. _________________ Currently Playing : Atelier Iris 2 (PS2), Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii), Legend of Heroes : Trails of the Sky (PSP), 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (DS) and Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)

That and Radiant Historia really was solid, but in no way great or memorable.
