^ I never said only aboriginals did those crimes. I was just saying where I used to live years ago it seemed that a high percentage of crimes were committed by aboriginals.
And yes Gooberman, chickens. On more than one occasion. Unfortunately, the police found the culprits and chickens... after they had been beaten or something horrible.
Seriously, whatever guys. Can't have a serious discussion here without it being railroaded by idiots or left wing idealists. Interesting how you're all having a sad at my comments apart from light and maybe Gooberman (at least he is being constructive). Keep on turning a blind eye and pretending an issue doesn't exist.

Ugh, did you read the source? And looking beyond what? What are you quoting or referencing? Nothing. Just waving the 'oh you're a racist because you mentioned a race'. I read the source. I also had a longer post originally typed but figured it wasn't worth it.
Racist justice system = more people of colour put into jails.
White controlled media = reporting of more crime done by people of colour.
I'm not saying you're racist, I'm saying you're making an incorrect assumption based on what is being reported as official crime statistics.

^ Do you really think that though? I would seriously hope that our justice system (--update-- in this day and age) doesn't work based on race. Nor would I think that the ABC is race motivated.
Regarding the crime statistics... what would you think are/would be considered fairly to be 'official crime statistics' if they don't come from the top cop himself?

I honestly do believe it. I would also hope the same, but this has been going on forever.
Quick example being after Katrina. Black people loot, white people find.
Media is racist, rich white men own the media.

True, you make a valid point. But in respect to statistics, I doubt our police or media would be.. purposely altering them for their own benefit...? How would that benefit the police?
I just want to point out one thing about my 'I'm not surprised comment'; I'm not surprised based on my experiences, what I've seen happen at train stations and my understanding of different socio-regions (make what you will regarding the correctness of statistics). Personally, I've seen what happens at some Perth train stations at night so I'm not surprised to see it happen else where in this country. If Light said some little old lady did it, then yes, I would be surprised. If he said some gang of white teenagers did it then I wouldn't be surprised either.

Eh, when I read the story I ASSUMED it was aboriginals, read on a few more posts and found it more than likely was.
So that makes me racist in many peoples eyes, I think its just a well educated guess after growing up on the Armadale train line in Perth and seeing the scary sht that happens with my own eyes - most of which was done by Aboriginals. No white man media conspiracy skewing the truth there, just what I have witnessed myself
No ones claiming white/asian/whatever dont commit crimes. If you guys want to scream racist at me, please, be my guest! I'd bet if you grew up in Perth you might see our point of view.
Anyway Light, glad your fiance wasnt seriously hurt mate.

And why is that? Do you think I'll treat white people differently if they commit a crime? Are you assuming I'm white and thus favour white people? But you're right, I wouldn't have made that comment, I probably would've said something along the lines of 'damn white trash'.
And thanks Benc82, my thoughts exactly. If anything, this topic has shown how quickly people here like to make assumptions and jump to conclusions.

Actually it depends what you mean by racist. In my expeirence probably only 10% of people are outright, openly racist. But there are many, many more who are the "I'm not racist but...." type. |
IMHO everyone on earth is racist to some extent. I'm sure all of us would have had some ill thoughts about another race at one point in time, and it's something that you can't do anything about, it just creeps inside your head. Most of us (I hope) will feel guilty, eg "I shouldn't have had that thought in my head just then, it's wrong". I guess it's kind of like having a devil & an angel on your shoulders, you listen to them both, and you go with the one that makes the most sense to you.
I guess a better wording is that everyone has racist thoughts every now and then, but that doesn't mean that all of us are racist.

Are you saying that aborigines commit a similar amount of crimes when compared to whites on a per capita basis?

Haven't read half of the argument, but from what I can see what Benc82 wrote is pretty much what I think.
By most people's definition, I'm racist, not going to lie. Growing up in north Queensland it's something that just happens. People call us racist rednecks or whatever, I don't think they can really form a proper opinion until they've actually experienced what it's like to live in such a place. If I'm walking down a street at night, black man coming in the opposite direction, I'll cross the road. White man, no problem, say hi, whatever. Black kids in the shop, keep an eye on them at all times. Most white kids, no problem.
This has nothing to do with the media, everything to do with my own personal experiences. I find it hard to believe that someone can expect another person to be completely neutral towards a certain race when myself and my friends and family have had run ins with members of the race throughout my entire life. Mates being chased and bashed at random by mobs. My sister threatened to be bashed and killed over a game of touch football. Stuff being stolen left right and central from my work etc etc.
I completely understand if they were to feel the same about my race as well. I don't doubt that they've had run ins with my people before.
Some people just seem to live in a dream world where the mind doesn't make certain assumptions and doesn't classify/link to past experiences.
To me openly hating a particular race is what being racist is all about. Most people here don't hate people because they're black, they're just more cautious around them, when they hear about bad stuff they might link it to that particular race. I've had plenty of black mates, and I'm sure the guy I just crossed the road for is a nice bloke who wouldn't hurt a fly, but I just can't shake the 19 years of experience to be completely open and willing to treat everyone equally at face value.

I lived in North QLD for a few months and I can definitely agree with what you said. I was walking home one night in Cairns and this other person about 10 meters ahead of me (he was of aboriginal appearance) stopped and as I presided to walk past him he called out to me. I walked a bit closer to him because I couldn't hear him clearly as he was mumbling (he looked like a junkie) and he brandished a knife and said "if you come any closer, I'll kill you". I crossed the road hastily and continued walking home but it definitely gave me a bit of a scare.
Another time I parked my car in Townsville and as I was coming back I could see a black man on a bike circling around it. He saw me and rode off. I bet if I didn't get there in time my car would've been stolen or he would have taken the CD player or something.

What to do if you're worried someone might attack you? Act insane. Like, completely insane. Crouch down, walk like a crab, flail your arms about, yell out obscenities and complain about stuff like aliens. People won't wanna fight someone who is completely unpredictable. Just a random tip I picked up
