I feel like this should have a dedicated thread, seeing as it's out tomorrow. Who's planning on picking it up? I know I will be, more games for my 3DS is never a bad thing. So this apparently has a pretty decent online system, so maybe we can organise some Palgn matches?

Sounds good, I'm planning to pick it up too. If the online mode is solid, then we should definitely be able to organise some PALGN races.

Ah, it does have the group feature I thought it did. So if I make a Palgn group, I'll be able to invite everyone, and we'll be able to play through there. I'll do that when I pick it up!

Interested to see how it plays. Pretty sure I'll give up and cry as soon as blue shells get involved.

I'm in for sure. Big time Mario Kart fan since the SNES original. Looking forward to being a part of the PALGN league

So, first impressions...

The game looks very nice, even without the 3D (that I am unable to use) switched on. Sounds alright, too.

Tried the online multiplayer, which is basically presented the same as Mariokart Wii, including having a Mariokart channel. Only found Japanese people online at this stage, but it was quick and easy to get a match and very smooth. And this was using 3G wireless internet via my phone. Also had no problems with the fact I am playing a UK copy.

Only played through one 50cc cup so far, which was predictably easy. Looks like there are several alternate paths to each track, but I've yet to explore them and can't comment on their usefulness. And so far, the gliding and underwater sections are a bit dull and don't seem to add much.

The only new power up that I've tried so far is the raccoon tail (or whatever it's called). Could come in handy when you've got a red shell honing in on you. And Bronze, if you hated blue shells before, just wait until one hits you while gliding in mid-air.

Vehicle customisation is interesting, but I'm yet to really get my head around it and what advantages differently designed vehicles might afford.

I'll try and post more when I've had a chance, unless I'm too busy playing Mariokart, of course.

Major issues for me include:

1.No time clock in GP mode.. Am I going crazy or has this actually been overlooked at Nintendo.?! I know it sounds a little crazy, but I spreadsheet all my GP races, was one of my favourite things to do..

2. No summary view to access race data ( that I'm aware of yet ) like statistics regarding shells, win/loss record, characters used in GP etc.. Is this non-existent or can I just not find it.?

3. No single player single race. Massive shame, seems to be overlooked.

4. New kart don't really seem to add much.. in some situations the glider even appears with absolutely no control over it whatsoever, making it difficult to identify was it is just thrown in these sections..

5. Im sure I read somewhere there would be a massive grand prix option to play 16 courses randomly back-back like what was possible in double dash, seriously dissapointed to find out this is not the case!

6. Mission mode = gone

I guess all minor complaints, I'm still really enjoying the game, just feels more of a revision / refinement of MKDS.. Haven't played online yet, although I'm really looking forward to being a part of palgns online community!!

The one and only things I wish they would do for a future MK edition would be downloadable add-on tracks. It's great having all these classic one, but I'd love the ability to download ALL of them. Not only would it provide longevity (in the absence of mission mode, which I agree is a disappointing loss), but there's so many they could have chosen to bring back for this, it'd be nice to have all the classics in one package.

Come to think of it, next year marks the 20th anniversary of Mario Kart. Maybe that would be a good excuse.

I can't seem to get back into it, I clicked on the Palgn group, and it's been searching for around 10 minutes.

I left it searching at first, then went and hung up the washing, and when I came back a race was starting with two other people, but I was Peach, who I didn't want to be. So I restarted my 3DS, and now it cannot find anyone else. What a disappointment, was looking forward to some multiplayer races!

EDIT: Can you post when you're back in the lobby, or whatever happens?

In time trial yeah, but not as proper races. Its pretty crazy. Given the game was pushed out faster than intended, I'm guessing its an oversight. And an annoying one at that.
