for me it's White Knight Chronicles 2. Single player was a let down but multiplayer is imo the best designed online multiplayer experience for any console game, the community feels real and team work and communication is essential for the later quests. Oh and I've put 400 hours into the game and still look forward to cramming in an hour of play after work each day.

You only got 50 hours on Oblivion? Did you finish it or anything, most people get upwards of 150 hours icon_razz.gif I got 320 on one file alone.

But I am a sad sad man

Pffft.

Casuals.

icon_wink.gif Over 1000 hours in some games is not something to be proud of though.

Leaving your web browser open so it can grind things overnight isn't hardcore though! I think I did 1800 hours on one WoW character when I was playing..never again.

I did however get hit by a truck then went home and played Quake traumatised. That is actually a legit story too.

But nay I'm just being a dick. As usual.

Did you mention this on PALGN? Cause I think I remember the post. Pretty epic...were your skills slightly improved and more alert? (Gamers priorities lol)

Sorry for thread derailment guys, wish I could make my own list, but the only new release games I have are pokemon white and halo anniversary.

Pokemon White unfortunately not putting on my list. I haven't finished playing it, maybe 1/4 way through the game but I really dislike it so far. Some of the new pokemon are cool but other than that I'm just getting annoyed. I'm sick of running into your rivals/friends every 15 minutes, the game is just trying too hard to be different also. Enough of that, now for my number 1 icon_razz.gif

1. Halo Anniversary
343 have done a terrific job at remaking this game. They captured the spirit of the original and seemingly removed any of the inconvenient aspects. It is highly faithful, but most importantly it is fun. The art style is very vibrant and colourful, it is quite amazing. Not only that but wielding an Assault Rifle feels like handling a rapid-fire cannon. Couple that with so many colourful explosions and an almost confetti-like bullet spray along with the enemies glowing plasma shots coming at you in every direction and you have something truly wonderful. They also granted my wishes and put skulls in the game, to be found in tricky places which I'm going to attempt to find soon.

I really hope they remake Halo 2 now and possibly even Halo 3. To think a remake could be so fun, easily one of the best remakes for any series. I'm finding it just as brilliant as HeartGold/SoulSilver.

I have about 300 lifetime on Team Fortress 2. The only games that come close are the Doom games (trufax: you could use the Doom 2 executable to run the Doom 1 wad, so for the purposes of this post I'll consider them one game) and the Civilization games (Civ2 in particular).

I don't know how you guys do it, even the games with the most longevity that I enjoy a lot I get bored of after 50 hours or so. I loved Skyrim but I'm pretty much done with it now after 59 hours until theres some expansions or DLC.

I did over 800 hours in Warhawk which is easily the most I've played a game.

The closest to that and the most time spent on a single player game is over 365 hours on FFX.

My CoD4 time is kinda scary. Not sure how long exactly as I reinstall and what not but it would be over 500(probably way over under-estimating. If I add Modern Warfare 2 and black ops it's an extra few hundred. The greatest singleplayer would be Mass Effect 1 but I didn't keep track of these things when I was young and I bet my time in GTA3 and San Andreas were far longer as I didn't buy as much games as I do now.

I don't have the tracking for UT2k4 when I played competitively, but it was well over 2000 hours I'd say.

The longest time I have spent on one game is 125 hours, which is on my FFX-2 save file. I'm still surprised that people can spend over 200 hours playing a single game!

Yeah, I mean, those suckers that play chess or soccer. How in the hell, amirite?

What's more surprising is that people will spend 100+ hours on a cutscene laden RPG filled with horribly designed minigames rather than twice that on a skill based competitive multiplayer game.

Yeah, coz doing the same stuff over and over in a competitive multiplayer game until you actually have the skill to be competitive is lots of fun.

Actually it is considering the unpredictable combat and depth to it, but we'll go ahead and just assume it's not fun because we suck at the beginning.

Sorry but I'll take a cutscene laden epic RPG with lots to do over the repetitiveness of doing round after round of the same thing for 200+ hours. At that point you're mostly killing newbies for a KDR and prestige that means nothing.

For me, I can't play and finish the game in one go for lengthy games. I have an odd play-style where I will get sick of playing and then will pick something else and if I am bothered, go back to it eventually. I found having a rest can keep me interested in the game.

Prestige? KDR? Farming newbies?

You really have no clue what you're saying. That's not what competitive play is about nor what it entails. You're free to enjoy your RPGs (after all I never really made the comment about RPGs to begin with; I play anything), but as I stated don't make call outs like that when you seriously do not have a single clue as to what you're actually talking about.

Same thing can be said about the comment on RPGs. There's been far too much negativity from this forum about them lately.

Being good at a shooter turns it into a different game. It's like knowing the tactics you can learn the strategies. Sure I mostly just kill noobs but there is a level of play one can reach where your just unstoppable even against good players. Of course I never got god like but I have played a few games where I didn't die and the feeling is one of absolute badassery. Then there is the simple thrill of being quicker than the next guy. There has been a few times when gaming that I have pulled off crap that surprises myself. Things like sniping across the map without even thinking about it or killing three guys before they got a shot off. Of course I have grinded on RPG's but there is a greater thrill in beating a fellow human than just spending time with a game to beat it.

Different strokes for different folks. I completely agree with you, some of the my greatest gaming moments have been in a multiplayer game like Battlefield 1942. I'm merely balancing the discussion here.

To balance the discussion 4 out of my top 5 games are RPG's and there are tons of games I have done almost every side quest. I think the main joy is being immersed in the world. But I do regret my time doing pointless side quests more than playing another shooter round.

What, you mean in between all the mass spooging over Dark Souls, Xenoblade, and Skyrim?

Fuck man, get a grip.

EDIT:

See my comments about chess and soccer. I specifically brought them up as an enjoyable skill based game to make the comparison with. They're not always fun, especially when you're on the losing side, but you're always learning new things and getting better and find great reward when you win a match.

EDIT 2:

And just to be clear, I made that comment about FFX-2. Terrible game.

...Are we seriously comparing the experience of playing an RPG to that of playing an FPS game? I don't even have words for how stupid that kind of argument is. C'mon guys. icon_rolleyes.gif
