So I pre-ordered this game and paid for the boosters to get into closed beta, and considering it only asked for $29.99, it was a steal so why the hell not.
And upon playing it, I discovered one of my new competitive gaming addictions. Tribes Ascend brings back the fast paced nature of old school FPS but merges it with the modern, creating an extremely awesome and intense FPS that will also be Free to play upon release.
As an example of what this game has:
-12 unique classes
-Perk systems that are also upgradeable and do not alter the balance of the game.
-Easy to learn, incredibly hard to master.
-An active and mostly polite community.
-Modern mechanics merged with old school skill ceilings to create a hybrid of awesome.
-You travel at over 200km/h...on foot. Yep.
Most of what this game offers in modes is CTF, but there are other modes such as Rabbit and TDM, but honestly all you really need is CTF because god dammnn it's intense.
Here's some gameplay of myself playing on my first day, and it's a nice example of how insanely fast it is.
So if you're keen pick up a pre-order, and I'll check on my account to see if I have extra beta keys to give away too.

Looks amazing, and yes, I've been keeping my eye on this. I was a mad Tribes player back in the day, wouldn't mind getting back into it

Played this since Tribes one too, good ol' jump.cs and all the controversy surrounding before every man and his dog started using it as well.
Man I'm so tempted to come back and play this, depends if any of my old clan buddies are willing to come back.
There's so far only a handful of old school Tribes players I know of that are playing or planing to get it _________________

It feels and plays a lot more like the original than Tribes 2 did.. _________________

Well I already had a closed beta key.. played it for a few days and I have now pre-ordered it, while it is still in closed beta.. it is just that good and very reminiscent of the original Tribes 1 rather than the rehashes. The controls are a little different to the original but not so much that it detracts from the gameplay. Anyone who hasn't played Tribes but loves the thrill of a multi-role team-based shooter (such as Team Fortress) should get a kick out of this game.
It looks like it will be a semi-f2p model with "gold" that you can buy if you can't be bothered to wait till you earn enough "tokens" from gameplay to unlock the different characters. You get 3,000 gold with the pre-order and also 30 days worth of double xp/tokens as well as some kind of Pre-Order VIP status forever.
They've already started to ban people... yes, in a closed beta... for the usual crap.. AimBots etc.. the anti-cheat systems in place are also being tested.
I'm not sure if I get "3" keys to give? I only see one key when I click on the link for keys I can give away.. can you confirm that Frozen?
Anyway, since getting the pre-order I have been investing most of my time into the Engineer character class/role as it was the class I liked the most when I used to play the original Tribes.. the only thing I don't like about the class is that your turrets need to run from the same energy that your base runs off.. so if the base generator goes offline, so do you independant turrets... but then again.. it's not so bad either. _________________

I bought a copy just a few days after it was released, played a couple of weeks, and stopped. While I agree this game is good, I think it lacks something to impress.
