I don't see why people are doubting this. Evidence from a few different sources seems to be piling up. Sony have been whoring out their characters to other games - particularly fighting ones - for a while now, why not just go the whole hog so they get full control of it and get all the sales for themselves?

The problem I see is that Smash Bros, in terms of the gameplay, is actually relatively niche, it just gets a nice boost because Mario, Pikachu, Donkey Kong and Kirby are all super recognisable to everyone. Who has Sony got to give it that boost? Back when Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Lara Croft were their big poster children, then sure, things were different, but now? Nobody outside gaming circles knows who Nathan Drake and those guys are. Where is that sales boost going to come from?

I'm actually kind of positive about this. I mean how bad could it turn out? The one thing holding it back is recognizable characters but if they make a decent fighting game I wouldn't care who the guys are.
