Ever had a preorder arrive late? Or one of Australia posts lovely "Attempted Delivery" cards even though you've been home and awake all day? We and several others have discussed this and they make a habit of filling those damned cards out in advance and not bothering to attempt delivery.
Well don't stand for it, direct your complaints here

I've fired off quite a few complaints and just get a 'we will look into this issue and report back'
and they never do. I suppose either way they can't do anything, its not like they can go back in time and deliver your order on time. _________________

I've been getting parcels left out in the open at my front door. Amazed I haven't had anything stolen.

Quite simply, they won't do anything about it.
I've run into this issue a few times before (and a few instances of receiving the card only to head to the post office and my package is "gone") and the most problematic cause is Australia Post's outsourcing of contractors to deliver mail.
The contractors are often young, inexperienced and just plain don't care about the job in general. It's commonplace to see half-arsed delivery at the hands of random individuals and tracking them is nigh-on impossible.
Sadly, the system apparently would be far too undermanned to operate without them.
Can't really win, but I sympathise with the scenario. _________________

Had heaps of issues, and as Fyuusii mentioned above, it's due to the contractors.
I just get most things delivered to work these days, to save the hassle, since they actually have to enter the building for deliveries and knock on the office door.

Auspost won't do anything. As they have no real competition (bar couriers who are way more expensive), they have little incentive to improve and really can't monitor their contractors.
I don't even get notification cards when I have stuff arriving to begin with? I mean, if your package/parcel doesn't fit in your mailbox (espeically if you live in an apartment), you're going to have to go down to the post office anyway.
As thebigm said, get stuff delivered to work if possible. Then you know you will most likely not have to go down to the post office to begin with. _________________

I don't have a problem with Aus Post. I'm pretty friendly with the guy that delivers parcels here (as we get quite a few), and he's quite nice. Our front door is hidden by shrubs/bushes, and we have some kind of "container" near the front door, so if no one is home he usually drops it in there. I guess it just depends who is delivering it. I've only had one parcel that wasn't left there, and that was from a different delivery service altogether (not including registered post).

I had a problem a while ago with a postal worker dropping things at my door even if they were registered, I called aus post to complain and complained at my post office after that he was taken off our run and we got a different posty and since then we haven't had any problems, the postal worker we have now doesn't even drop regular posts and cards everything.

While I acknowledge all these points are true, that there's no competition, that they outsource to incompetent morons, even that delivering to a business address might be a better idea, but the fact is that the only reason these complaints are ignored is that they don't come in in volumes that represent the real numbers of disgruntled customers.
What I'm suggesting is, each and every time a two-bit Aussie Post contractor drops the ball, take a few seconds out of your busy day to hit-up that link and register a complaint. It's reasonable to assume that as the complaints flood in, they will finally click that it isn't working, and if not you've wasted less time than the duration of a tv commercial.

There is plenty of competition for parcel delivery: DHL, FedEx, StarTrack Express and dozens of other courier companies. _________________

When I still lived at the previous apartment, 5 out of 10 times, I always received a card from my beloved AUS Post office even though I was at home most of the time.

I had the same problem as well. They just left the parcel at the front door plus they don't even bother to knock the door to check if there's someone at home or not. Fortunately, I haven't had anything stolen "yet".

This.
Basically businesses and those who are sending something that are outside the limits of a normal Auspost package. I think that's 20kgs and above which is maximum weight?
I deal with couriers at my job all the time and have booked things through DHL, TNT and Startrack. They require more paperwork to be done in general and obviously cost more too. _________________

Was in the same situation as many others here by receiving cards in mail box even though I was at home all day. So I rang Australia Post (middle of last month) to complain and it was explained to me that it is now protocol for motorcycle delivery guys to leave a card and not knock at door for registered items. The reasoning behind it was that many bikes had been stolen along with all the letters when the postman leaves bike to knock on door which causes big problems. They don't care to much about the bike, but you can understand the issue if a bike load of mail goes missing.
If it is a contractor though in a van/car, then they should be knocking 100% of the time before leaving the delivery failure card.
As annoying as it is, at least they had a reason and it wasn't just the guy being slack. Hopefully though they introduce something else soon though as it can be a hassle getting to a post office during their opening hours.

You can request the sender of the goods to write delivery instructions on the parcel. eg.
If premises unattended leave in a secure location.
If premises unattended leave in a secure location out of the weather.
If premises unattended leave in a secure location behind gate/fence.
If premises unattended leave in a secure location in carport/garage.
If premises unattended leave in a secure location near front door.
If premises unattended leave in a secure location on back porch.
If premises unattended place a card in the post box and leave parcel at nearest Australia Post Outlet.
...
There were 3 incidents this year where I received a parcel meant for a completely different street. It was placed in between my parcels held together with a rubber band. But with those kinds of statistics, things definitely get misdelivered.
I lost about $330 worth of games several months ago. And one of my Skyward Sword bundles is very, very late.

I had issues with parcels not delivered and no notices about it (got it delivered to work which has a mailroom). I was really busy so I couldn't chase up until my PS3 headset parcel was missing and had time to chase up.
Went to the Australian Post site, gave them my delivery address in a web form and they found the copy of LocoRoco not sent to me for months. No news on the PS3 headset, just LocoRoco PSP game which I already had a refund for (I told the seller what happen and gave them the money back again).
For those that had parcels never delivered, possibly try and give them your delivery address, see if they found something lying around in their mail room somewhere? _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

At the apartment building were I live the Body Corporate have given the Postman a remote control allowing him to open the garage door and to leave the mail undercover. Their is a inside the garage next to the roller door but he never puts it in their just throws it somewhere on the ground. It wouldn't surprise me one day if a car runs over it.
