This is bad news for those who has many trade baits.
Today, I called JB Hi-Fi to make sure that my trade baits are not on their exclusion lists (I know sometimes they rejected a few games even though it's not on the exclusion lists), so this guy told me that "Starting tomorrow, JB Hi-Fi may be getting rid of the 3 4 1 deal".
Firstly, I thought this guy must be joking so I went to JB Hi-Fi and asked one of their assistant while I traded in 3 4 1 deals for Arkham City. The guy was unsure but he then asked his manager and the manager confirmed that they are considering whether or not to get rid of the 3 4 1 deals.
So I went home and called another 2 JB Hi-Fi to make sure if it's true or not. The other 2 JB Hi-Fi told me that "After today's business hour, there won't be anymore 3 4 1 deals".

From what I've heard, they're switching to 1-for-1 deals now, then again I could be wrong _________________

Its a shame but I haven't done it in 2 years, back then they were WAY more under-informed about what games were cheap. I spent $80 on cheap ebay games, played some of them quickly for achievements, then traded in all 9 for 3 brand new releases, was great. _________________

Sounds like the trade in model Game uses. Instead of excluding games, they're just telling you what games are valid for trade in. Pretty much the trade in model that they're using with Modern Warfare 3 right now.
I haven't used JB's 3 for 1 deal in ages, their exclusion list was massive and too much hassle to work out what was valid and what wasn't. _________________

Yes, I think they are considering to use trade 1 to 1 deals but I am not sure if it's sustainable in the long run.
It's partly JB Hi-Fi faults for not updating the exclusion list regularly and also the people who exploits the system a lot just to earn some extra money (probably a lot xD) >_>
Whenever I go to JB Hi-Fi stores, I saw a massive amount of preowned games. I don't think many people are buying them unless it's a cheap game and not on the exclusion list.
I only used the 3 4 1 deals to get the game that I really wants to play. Too bad that they are getting rid of it so soon that I don't have enough time to wait for my trade baits to be delivered. I still yet to get the Dark Souls Limited edition and I was planning to get AC Revelations, Skyrim and Saint Row T_T

I would speculate the exclusion list would be one of the reasons why they're changing or possibly getting ride of their trade in model.
With so many games coming out I would imagine it'd be a hassle to keep track of what to include and exclude. I always thought their exclusion list system was kinda dated / flawed when pages started to reach double digits.
I think the only ppl who would really miss JB's 3-4-1 are the ones who used/exploited it often. As I said before I didn't really use their 3-4-1 of recent so I don't really miss it. I do trade the occassional game but that's just to knock a few bucks off the price. _________________

I miss the good old days when the list was less than a page long _________________ 360 Gamertag : NoodleLover09

Some people said that tomorrow might be the last day to do 3 4 1 deals. Just give a call at your nearest JB Hi-Fi to make sure that they are still doing it or not.

Damnit. I guess they have caught on finally. MW3's huge release would obviously make head office realise the exploitation of their trade system. Still, I was hoping they'd hold on for a little longer so I could get Skyrim, Dark Souls and Saints Row 3 through the deal... _________________

Wont JB loose a fair bit of money out of the 1 for 1 system similar to the current MW3 deal?
I mean whenever ive looked at or bought at pre-owned new release at JB they're always $69 - so they're then giving away a brand new game eg MW3 that they sell for $79 - $89 normally for the $69 they make on the sale of the pre-owned game.
Hypothetically they buy the new release from the distributor for lets say $50 they would make +$29 - $39 on its sale, however if they give that away free for the trade of a pre-owned game that they then sell for $69 they're only making $19. I may be missing something but it doesn't seem to make sense. Obviously their 3 for 1 deal isn't any better at generating profit but..
Do you think they will up the cost of their new release pre-owned games to something like an EB where they're $4 cheaper then the brand new sealed copy? Or they may use MW3 1 for 1 deal as a suck and see and then do something like what GAME does with their trade 1 get said game for $29 etc (this is the only system that would seem to make sense from a retailers profit point of view).
On a side note any one in the JB loop know if a 20% of dvd / blu-ray sale is coming up soon?

Retailers make around $10 or less from the sale of a new game, less and less as the sale of video games gets more and more competitive. They make a whole lot more from the sale of preowned games.
So in essence, they make $10 on the first game, lose $10 on the second, and then make $30-40 on the sale of a preowned game. Profit. _________________

Wouldn't they be losing $50 on the second, assuming that's what they paid for it? _________________

Yeah true.
Hang on...
Game 1
Buy $50
Sell $60
Profit = $10
Game 1 Preowned
Buy $0
Sell $60
Profit = $60
Game 2
Buy $50
Sell $0
Profit = -$50
Profit = $20 when they sell Game 1 as preowned.
More work but double the profit, probably moreso as I'm just using those figures as an example. _________________

Currently, all trade deals will be one game for one game. The staff at head office have said that the 'Trade in 3 Games and one Game for Free' is over and is not coming back.
Since, the introduction of the new trade system, I believe a bunch of pre-owned games will increase in price while several games, namely the games from the Call of Duty series will drop in trade value.
This is just my opinion on the matter. _________________

I'm guessing the 3 for 1 deal was a ploy to build up their stock of preowned games. I'm surprised it lasted this long.
I remember I managed to get 5 copies of RE5 for about $180 and traded 4 of them in to EB for a 360. The manager was fuming lmao _________________
