So who got sucked in again? Certainly me.
Only played multiplayer so far, my quick thoughts so far:
Maps seem really small. Was just playing FFA last night for a bit, spawn, kill someone, shot in the back. Repeat. Can't see me playing much public, every boy and their dog thinks they are quick scoping pros and the bolt action scope (L96 again? I forget) is ridiculously OP, one hit kill everywhere. That and it feels like it has Sleight of hand pro from MW2 on as default, scopes in super fast.
M16 has been nerfed to shit, fire rate is so slow, comes up against an auto AR and you have little to no chance. Still use it though because it looks like the CoD4 M16 and I love it.
Hopefully 4v4 customs go alright because that's all I'll be playing. Usually play 5v5 SnD customs but it doesn't seem to be all that suited so far.
One good thing I'll say is that hit rego is again a feature of CoD, something that went missing with BO. Though anti-lag is still evident and you'll find yourself getting shot around corners a fair bit.
As my mate said last night, I think they should just release a new extra large map pack for CoD4 because that game was fucking perfect. _________________

I took me half way through your post to figure out you're talking about Modern Warfare. _________________

I didn't know that there were people who play the COD games for their story. That's surprising. _________________

Yep I'll only be getting this to finish the storyline. Battlefield 3 is all my multiplayer needs but COD does the campaign so well. _________________

First time for years that i didn't purchase a COD game on day 1.... in fact it's something i've done since COD 4: MW. Black Ops was the nail in the coffin for me, that said i enjoyed playing MW 2's online modes when it worked (always on ps3, rarely on 360).

Played a round of solo survival, surprisingly good! I didn't think a survival mode in Call of Duty would work well, but it definitely does! I also like how you rank up now in spec ops, that's kinda cool. The multiplayer feels so slow after Black Ops, though I'll get used to it. Still not sure if I should buy Elite or not, all the DLC would be nice, if I continue to play it...

Played about 30 mins and thats enough for me. I did the infamous 2 trick and feel ripped off. At the old age of 25 I think I'm too old for fps now, my reflexes are just not what they used to be. _________________

I'm heading up to Brisbane next week if you feel like offloading it? I'll send you a PM next week to see if you're enjoying it by that stage.
Realised I have to buy this because I forced a COD addict mate of mine to get Battlefield 3, so I gotta do the same for him and COD.

Actually there is a poll on facebook asking what people are looking forward to most in MW3 and surprising SP is only like 25% behind MP.
I've never played a COD but I to thought that almost no one played it for the SP. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

I definitely play for the campaigns! Regardless of if I find the multiplayer fun or not, I usually always go through the campaign at least twice. Though I haven't managed to finish Black Ops on Veteran, the AI in that is terrible, they always aim only for you. That's one great thing about this, you don't feel like it's you against everyone in the story.
Also, does anyone else kinda feel like, for the story, they grabbed all the "best" parts of MW1 and 2 and put them in here? Not that it's a bad thing or anything. Also, the new "controversial" scene seemed so unnecessary, it didn't feel like it had the effect they were going for.

I picked it up today, but need to finish off Uncharted 3 before I give it a go.
I love the CoD campaigns. Yes, they're dumb, etc. but they're shit fuck fun while they last and I usually get 50 hours out of the multiplayer, so overall they're great packages.
Anyway, commence the "cod is for sex-having fratties hurr hurr durr" comments.

I really enjoyed the challenging single player in CoD4, beating that on Veteran was a real achievement. Wouldn't mind picking this up but still got to play MW2.
Don't really like Treyarchs style of presentation and gameplay.

A little bit of common sense would help kill anyone's surprise. If no one played the single player, why would they pour millions in to development of a new 6-8 hour campaign every year instead of just pouring the significant amount of time and money in to making multiplayer even better?
(Answer: Because people play it - and they'd have achievement stats to back it up.) _________________

im another one that hasnt missed a release day purchase of cod, but this one i just couldnt bring my self to purchase, i dont know if its because bf3 just came out, or because i feel it hasnt changed enough to pay full price.
but i will pick it up in a few months more then likely, hopefully under $40 (yeh thats not going to happen for a brand new copy) but its not worth paying more then that, when i dont ever finish the story and the only thing i play it for is multiplayer.
if its more like cod4 and less like mw2 i will pick it up earlier.....so which is it? (not to many over powered killstreaks rewards and stupid lunge knife range? etc..) _________________

They publicly released stats for MW2 ages ago based on achievements, and around 70% of owners never touched the campaign. I guess that's still enough for them to pour money into the single player campaign, that 30% would still equate to $0.5 billion?
I always thought the mentality of developers was that multiplayer-only games just don't sell, so that's why they still persist with single player.

And then you go further down that rabbit hole: here's an article where an Activision rep claims only 10 percent of players finish games. So why does anyone make single player games in that case? _________________

Then open the article and spot the Rockstar rep saying that only 10% of people finished Red Dead Redemption - and at over 12.5 million copies sold, you can easily compare that to the numbers CoD pulls. _________________
