Did anyone pre-order the collector's edition with the dragon? My friend was after one but noticed everyone's taken their copies off for pre-order. _________________

I'm guessing because Skyrim is a pretty modest looking game. There's nothing particularly amazing going on with the technology and assets, from what we've seen. I would have loved DX11 tessellated bricks and stones though . _________________

According to this post on whirlpool from an ozgameshop rep, there are issues with the cloth map pre-orders
| Quote: | We were originally told by the publishers themselves that they would be manufacturing as many cloth maps as necessary, and that we could take as many orders as we wanted. Fast forward to 48 hours, they have now got in touch with us and told us that they haven't actually made enough.
This is effecting ALL retailers, not just us, and truly the fault lies with the publisher. However, we are doing our best to make the situation fair by doing the following;
The small number of cloth maps that we do have will be given to the customers who ordered earliest, in a first come, fist served manner. If, unfortunately, you are not able to get a cloth map, you will have a choice of 2 options;
1) you are completely entitled to a full refund
or
2) You receive a copy with a paper map instead, plus a $5 voucher as our way of apologising. The voucher is a $5 digital voucher for use on the site.
Everyone who has pre-ordered the game will receive and email stating whether or not you will be getting a cloth map. We are still in the process of sending these emails out, getting the codes sorted, etc. If you have pre-ordered Skyrim but do not get an email in the next few days, make you sure tell customer services using the contact form on the site.
We completely understand your frustration at this point in time, as it is not your fault, yet you are taking the fall for it. Rest assured, we are doing everything we can to make the situation as fair as possible for everyone effected, and we appreciate your patience and understanding while we get everything sorted.
Cheers, Tom and ozgameshop.com team |

I have a question that hopefully someone can answer:
I bought Oblivion a couple of years ago, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, even though I really want to.
Would I be spoiling anything if I played Skyrim first, then Oblivion?
I'm guessing it's like Fallout 3 the Zeldas, where it is not an actual sequel to previous games, but a standalone story set in the same universe, somewhat re-imagined?
Still, I have kind of an OCD mentality when it comes to playing a series in proper order.

Benzas right, but that said Skyrim doesn't seem to be just a bit of an update like the difference's between FallOut 3 and FO New Vegas. There's the risk that Skyrim might be so much of an improvement that it makes Oblivion seem archaic as a result. Obviously I haven't played Skyrim so have no idea if that's the case. But yeah, apart from being less familiar with the world of Tamriel not having played Oblivion shouldn't mean anything (except you're not currently wetting your pants for Skyrim like I am right now). _________________

I have a feeling playing Obllivion first would be better for you. But then again Skyrim will be that big that i'd just play it first as you'd most likely want a break fora while once you finish with them as they are that deep. _________________

I still play Morrowind sometimes. Sure it will be hard (just graphically Oblivion is really bad) but you can still play it.

this needs to be emphesised. It's a really fucking ugly game. And not just in a 'this game is old and doesn't have the tech available today' kind of way. more in a 'dear god every character in this game has been half beaten to death with an ugly stick. I can no longer tlel if that's a woman or a man' kind of way. _________________

Even when I modded Oblivion to death everything looked great except the people. You can make Oblivion look ok with mods but people in that game will always look horrible.

There's lore continuity between the Elder Scrolls games, but like Zelda there's no incentive to play them in order, as rarely (if ever) are there any reappearing characters or continuing plot arcs.
Besides, if you absolutely had to play Oblivion before Skyrim, you'd also need to play Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind too. _________________

Just as an update for those who preordered from scorptec, I just got a call from their sales rep saying because of a screw up from their 'marketing department', their versions are game only.
There will be no book/map that comes with it.
Nice use of bait and switch. _________________

Yeah that's what I was getting at. Regardless, I think I'll get Skyrim on release as it looks too good to pass up.

Possible spoilers ahead. Nothing story related, though.
I've been lucky enough to have the game since last Thursday, and already, i've had one of those moments during gaming in which I will never forget. So mammoths and giants are absolute arse holes to kill. You have to keep a fair distance from them whilst fighting, or otherwise they'll OHKO you. There is a fetch quest in which you have to grab a couple of mammoth tusks for a lady, and having just seen a mammoth, I decided to go in for the kill. Distancing myself, I whittled down about half of its health through dual-casting. At this point, its buddy which I missed sight of comes running through and things get hectic. Just as i'm about to destroy the second one, a giant comes running for me from behind. I couldn't do anything, so I just ran as quickly as possible. Just as things couldn't get more hectic, A WILD DRAGON APPEARS! So now i'm running from a dragon and a giant. Eventually, I came across a bandit camp, and thankfully for me, the AI decided to start firing at each other. I got away and quick-travelled the hell outta there, two mammoth tusks in hand, and adrenaline going off the charts!
I LOVE this game! ='D _________________

Anyone got any plans of how they're going to roll yet? After making my punchy lizard in Oblivion I'm looking at doing a stealth heavy thief orc.
Or maybe a necromancer dark elf with voodoo face paint. _________________
