Blizzard can have $150 every time they release a fancy non-MMO game from me.
Everyone else only gets $50 for new PC games or $60-70 for new PS3 games. Older games is more like $30-40 on either platform. _________________

I'm rather poor at the moment, for a new release I would love to pay $60 but I would want it to be brand new, sealed and PAL OFLC rating. That rarely happens, but I am saving for Halo anniversary. That series is worth the dough for me.
I don't think I've payed over $90 in my life.

Depends how badly I want to play the game, I don't mind paying extra to get it ASAP. Generally though I wouldn't pay over $90 for a standard edition, I'm willing to go higher for collectors editions depending on what they contain. I prefer tangible extras as opposed to DLC codes for alternate costumes. _________________

Fighting games get full price from me, they deserve every penny as the time you get out of them simply renders the monetary value as miniscule. And I'm impatient. If I have a chance to get a fighter 1 week beforehand and it's double the price, I'll hand over the money. _________________

I have some informal rules when buying games
1. Buy games six months to a year from when they were released... that way they are only about $20-$30 and also its long after the hype dies down, so i don't buy something from preview/review excitement. a lot of media outlets want you to buy as many games as possible to get more advertisers.
2. Buy games from online retailers where possible. New games can be approximately $50-60 which is reasonable if I have to have the latest game. I only do this a few times a year like Uncharted and Dark Souls so it definitely reduces the cost.
3. Buy iPhone games to fill in the time.... i've spent 10+ hours on bike baron and it was.... a dollar.... yep a frisking dollar. thats possibly the best dollar i've ever spent in my life. iPhone games have also substituted my DS and PSP gaming time.
4. Also I tend not to buy games until I am finished with the previous game.... like I'll probably skip skyrim... I'm not too fussed really... I have too many games at home to play.
Looking at the games i've purchased this year I've probably only spent $300 and I've got about 6 PS3 titles and a long list of Steam and iPhone games to keep me going. _________________

I'll be perfectly honest, since doing Australian Gaming Bargains last year I've started becoming much more savvy in my games shopping. Because of it I'll rarely pay above $50 for a new release console game (the import cost of new releases from the UK) and about the same for handheld games.
Normally though, I'll now wait a few weeks and see the game hit 18 quid on Zavvi and order from there. The latest example is my 16 quid copy of Deus Ex: Human Revolution bought three weeks after launch.
The only exceptions are for franchises I love, like Saints Row and Mass Effect.
Also, I refuse to buy Sony games on launch. On average they drop all of their first party games to $50 RRP within six months and I'm willing to wait that long for most of their exclusives. _________________

I pay full retail usually, A: because I hate the UK ratings symbols, they look crap on my shelf, I feel cheap importing. B: I don't buy many games these days. This year in total so far I have bought Crysis 2, The Witcher 2, Deux Ex and BF3.
(I'm not counting 15 or so of steam games during sales, I.e. Red Faction: Armageddon for $8 a month back) _________________

This isn't far from the truth actually. Every time I've been in there the staff have been friendly and helpful. Too bad i dislike driving to Capalaba now I'm living over in Mt Gravatt. |
One of the guys from there even brought in his own personal 3DS to give me a look at it after I told him we couldn't find any demo units. I mean shit that's just good customer service. _________________

Really interesting to read!
I'll usually not spend more than $79 for a new release.. I'll usually head down to EB Games and price match whoever the cheapest retailer is.. As for 3DS games, probably $59 is my limit (as with Zelda 3DS and will be fore the next few)..
Collectors Editions are my really only exception, thinks like OoT 3DS and Batman AC i paid full price for... ($79 i think and $149 respectively)..
Agree with the rest about customer service, i find over at GAME they're always honest, and up for a chat.. I actually had a sales clerk convince me NOT to spontaneously buy a Dsi XL because he thought they were useless, and just stick to my 3DS!
Having worked at EB i noticed how we always had higher prices than the likes of Big W and K-Mart down the road, however offered gaming expertise to the likes of Parents and Grandparents who have no idea what to buy for their children.. So for them i guess it's sometimes easier to pay RRP than race around finding the cheapest price..
